I see what you're saying Destiny though, for me, it helps to engage as otherwise it allows mistruths and misdirection to stand, and lurkers who may not be as familiar with the ongoing discussion here may see Daim's posts as truth.

I was once a lurker who was sitting on the fence and not really understanding what exactly was going on here. It took others on this part of the site, discussing, challenging, and throwing the light on stuff to help me go off and properly research what was happening.

(And no, for all those other 'lurkers' of the 'Mumsnet radicalisation' theory, I went off and researched all perspectives because, you know, I'm a female with a brain! Then made up my mind, and came back with my own point of view.)

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 17/07/2018 21:39

Sorry - I must have missed it.

Why as a 50 year old are my opinions worthless?

Did something happen between last September and October to render my brain useless, as if so I need to let my boss know.

Ta.

Melamin · 17/07/2018 21:44

I had thought about that but I don't know many who would be interested - this stuff is passing people by here. I will keep thinking about it though.

UpstartCrow · 17/07/2018 21:46

So is 50 the cut off date for humanhood, just as 5' 8" is the height cut off for womanhood?
Does it apply to men, or is it just women who have to do the Logans Run thing?

pombear · 17/07/2018 21:47

Yep Tells did you not get the memo? Over 50 - laughable and able to put into a box defined 'worthless female opinions'.

The plans were on display, but down in the cellar.

You'll have needed a flashlight.

The memo that 50-plus women's thoughts were redundant was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”

Your brain and opinions are now redundant. Just a shame you didn't get the memo. (Shout out to all HHG fans :-) Showing our age!)

Mind you, get botox and rainbow hair and some of the posters may recognise you as non-binary and you'll be back in the game befoe you know it!

Melamin · 17/07/2018 21:48

Upstart - I think it is a woman thing - you are written off as soon as you get anywhere near meno, then if you manage to live long enough, you get interesting again.

JackyHolyoake · 17/07/2018 21:51

Hi Melamin Woman's Place delivers its meetings by invitation only. So, you need to be prepared to be the local organiser for finding and organising the venue and then invite WP to your locality. You can recommend the speakers you would like to attend and WP will endeavour to facilitate this. It's all very amicable and easy to do. Smile

Destinysdaughter · 17/07/2018 21:52

pombear yes I know what you're saying and those arguments do need to be rebutted and I have the greatest respect for all of you who have the patience to do it. Just tired of EVERY SINGLE THREAD being derailed!

pombear · 17/07/2018 22:08

So to Destiny's point - a huge congratulations to all those involved in delivering yesterday's event.

From the organisers, to the speakers, to JurysInn for hosting at last minute, to the rainbow-haired security and 'definitely-male-winking-security', to the audience who turned up, to those who checked various people in who may have looked like they'd just smelled a fart, to the bar staff, to Julie B for shouting drinks for all, to the non-event guests of JurysInn who learnt about new stuff, and to the protestors who gave a different point of view.

Well done. A Woman's Place Is Speaking Out.

Melamin · 17/07/2018 22:25

Well done. A Woman's Place Is Speaking Out.

Absolutely yes.

LangCleg · 17/07/2018 22:39

Welcome to FWR, Icedgemsandjelly!

thebewilderness · 17/07/2018 22:41

Trans women aren't glorifying in male dominance they are just born a bit differently to us, that's all.

You are quite mistaken. For some men trans is the ultimate male dominance display.
The trans widows blogs will confirm this.

pombear · 17/07/2018 22:42

Upstart! Logan's Run - OMG. Sorry, derailing again, sort of, but yep. Females seem to be the only ones in the running for this treatment, aka Logan's Run redundancy!

If I surround myself in unicorns and rainbows enough, do you think I'll avoid detection as I run up to the big 5-0, at which point my views and brain will be null and void?

Though, to be honest, Logan's Run cut off at 30, so technically we're all fucked before we've all properly lived.

pombear · 17/07/2018 22:54

I've still not got my head around the 'born a little differently to us definition.

I personally feel strongly that this is yet another phrase that has been 'appropriated' by the trans activist movement. A decade ago, most of us would recognise this phrase as those who had a physical or mental disability that meant they were discriminated against- and that society needed to change to be more inclusive and less judgemental.

But now it's been appropriated by a group that is forcing its way into other people's rights, protections and boundaries in a completely different way to the earlier 'born different' terminology - where do the boundaries stop?

People who want to identify as a different race? Born a little differently to us

People who feel they're disabled and want to remove limbs? Born a little differently to us

People who feel attracted to under-age people? Born a little differently to us

And no, I'm not conflating these groups into one single group and implying that anyone who identifies as someone in this group holds the categories of other 'born a little differently', but I'm wondering where the boundaries stop at? (And have noticed that, whilst not conflating these groups, there does seem to be some crossover at the extreme ends of each group).

NoDykeDoesDick · 17/07/2018 22:55

Daimbars, if you genuinely care about transsexuals then I urge you to read this, written by a transwoman. sillyolme.wordpress.com/2017/01/01/when-in-the-course-of-human-events/

A little extract "We now have laboratory and survey evidence that all autogynephiles, not just a “portion”, are strongly, in fact preferentially, attracted to gynandromorphs, that is, pre-operative, young, physically and behaviorially feminine ‘early onset’ transkids."

Now, I'm not saying that all transwomen that are attracted to women are autogynephilic, but certainly most are.

These autogynephiles are clearly a threat to young, vulnerable transsexuals. Clearly a lot of people are incredibly misguided in their support of these people.

NoDykeDoesDick · 17/07/2018 22:59

Here is another post written by the same person that goes into much greater detail about autogynephilia sillyolme.wordpress.com/2009/12/28/autogynephilia/

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 17/07/2018 23:03

I just want to say - regarding the comment about women over 50 - that I too am under 50 but haven't been to a meeting yet - though I desperately would like to - because of childcare commitments.

This is mumsnet after all, a lot of women find their way here when struggling with being a mum and looking after children. Look at the lurkers thread. I'd bet there are lots and lots of women who are unable to go to evening meetings due to having to look after babies / children.

It'd be nice if there was a meeting in the day with a creche, though a lot of mums wouldn't want to put their children near the type of TRA protesters that wore masks at the Bristol meeting or who were shouting in Oxford.

Thank goodness there are women over 50 who can go and represent us.

Mogleflop · 17/07/2018 23:06

Thanks for those links NoDykeDoesDick - really clear and interesting pieces.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 17/07/2018 23:06

Perhaps all us 50 and overs should rest our grey matter, and babysit all the younger more able women's kids to enable them to attend?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 17/07/2018 23:12

Tells that sounds amazing - the MN FWR babysitting club.........! Though I seriously doubt I'm more able than any 50+ year old women unless being able to sing 17 verses of 'the wheels on the bus' counts as 'able'.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/07/2018 23:34

Welcome, Icedgems! Like most of us I bet you're wishing you didn't have to talk about this bollocks, but unfortunately we do since it's escalating rather than going away.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 18/07/2018 00:06

Welcome to FWR, Icedgemsandjelly. Please start a new thread based on your very interesting post. Smile

And, as AAK says so plainly:

Like most of us I bet you're wishing you didn't have to talk about this bollocks, but unfortunately we do since it's escalating rather than going away.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 18/07/2018 00:08

Daimbars has lost any credibility with me. I'm done

bigoldscaredycat · 18/07/2018 06:28

Genuinely shocked that daim is 1. A woman and 2. Has a daughter. It’s hard to credit that a woman and mother of a daughter would be such an active campaigner against women’s rights.

Mumsnet’s very own Serena Joy.

Oh fiddlestix.

I can't even go one round of 'wheels on the AARRGGHHHH'...sorry younger 'better' ladies, babysitting is off.
