Indeed .. speaking truth on Twitter is not permissible, according to some ... meanwhile, I am now active elsewhere ... Wink

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 17:48

Twitter have made extra categories of "serious disease" and "national origin" when they already have disability and race but they only have "gender" and "gender identity". Consciously excluding "sex".

JackyHolyoake · 17/07/2018 17:53

Ereshkigal Says it all really, doesn't it?

OvaHere · 17/07/2018 17:53

Thanks for the review @Brightonradfem I'm looking forward to the videos.

Do you have a screenshot of that poster?

loveyouradvice · 17/07/2018 17:56

I just want to say a HUGE thank you to Woman's Place for organising these... so valuable, so important - and 1000 times as challenging as we could have possibly thought when you started FlowersFlowersFlowers

And I am so glad a Quaker came and is going to discuss it with their meeting house... they feel a natural fit for hosting and I wonder whether it would be worth asking two or three from the local meeting house each time one happens so they can truly represent what happens and then potentially be venues for the future?

NynaeveSedai · 17/07/2018 18:01

That Quaker wasn't a representative of the meeting house. However I do believe further discussion with them will be had.

Brightonradfem · 17/07/2018 18:11

Here you go @OvaHere.

I've never talked identity politics or feminism with this particular friend, so I replied saying "I find it absolutely amazing that at Brighton Pride, the poster doesn't have the words "lesbian", "gay" or "bisexual", but there you go. I'm actually not represented in the people that are welcome there! Pride has definitely changed beyond all recognition."

I was wondering how she'd react, as we've never really talked politics, but she agreed with me and said she didn't feel represented or at all - she's also a lesbian. I think we need to have a little gender critical chat, me and her!

NynaeveSedai · 17/07/2018 18:14

The Marlborough is a trans pub now with lesbians as a very late afterthought if they are welcome at all. Probably not if they look too old school or terfy Hmm

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 18:15

Ereshkigal Says it all really, doesn't it?

It really does.

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 18:26

An extended version of Helen Saxby's speech last night.

The phrase ‘transwomen are women’ is naively understood to be simply a courtesy to a male trans person, a sign of allyship. If you don’t join in, because you stick to the definition of women which is biologically correct, you are nailing your colours to the mast and this is risky. There is a huge amount of abuse directed at women who refuse to do as they are told, and this fact demonstrates that the use of ‘transwomen are women’ is not as benign as it first seems. If you wish to be ‘nice’ to someone, that is your free choice, but if you are punished for NOT being ‘nice’ then it is no free choice at all and it begins to look more like bullying and coercion.

Oh yes.

Floisme · 17/07/2018 18:30

I know this thread has moved on - and maybe daim too - but I couldn't post this morning and I just wanted to say I've been chuckling all day at the idea that the generation raised on David Bowie and glam rock might feel discomforted by the sight of rainbow hair.

Nice bit of ageism though - that liberal mask is slipping.

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 18:31

For this reason I now reject, as a political act in my turn, the notion that ‘transwomen are women’. It has nothing to do with ‘hate’ or ‘transphobia’ or ‘bigotry’. If the political arm of the Anti Kitten-Stomping League was trying to infringe on women’s rights, I’d fight them too: it wouldn’t mean that I approved of stomping on kittens. It is purely a political defence of the rights of women and girls, against a political movement which threatens those rights. It is undemocratic to threaten and abuse women who speak out on this.

Yes yes yes.

JackyHolyoake · 17/07/2018 18:33

Have a read of this: babeinbotland.com/2018/07/11/why-trans-woman-is-a-very-bad-word/

NynaeveSedai · 17/07/2018 18:34

Daim is posting some very misogynistic stuff on twitter. It blows my mind that a lesbian woman could be so mired in misogyny and disdain towards women.

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 18:38

I was having the exact same thought. I don't understand how a lesbian who who has written quite a charming funny blog that surprisingly made me think that if I met her incognito we would probably get on hates other women so much and glories in male dominance over us.

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 18:39

It has actually really shaken me.

JackyHolyoake · 17/07/2018 18:42

Who is Daim in Twitter?

Mogleflop · 17/07/2018 18:47

Apparently they used the same wording from a post here on Twitter.

I don't think anyone should post their handle though, that would be a bit creepy.

Mogleflop · 17/07/2018 18:47

That sounded extraordinarily school-teachery of me and I apologise for the tone Grin

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 18:50

I certainly don't think MN would approve.

NotTerfNorCis · 17/07/2018 18:56

Saying that someone daren't post their real pic because 'no females would want to sex you' is a bit out of order imo.

daimbars · 17/07/2018 19:05

Glad you enjoyed the blog Ereshkigal haven't written it in ages.

And I have no idea why you think I hate women.

Trans women aren't glorifying in male dominance they are just born a bit differently to us, that's all.

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 19:06

Glad you enjoyed the blog Ereshkigal haven't written it in ages.

Makes sense.

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 19:07

Yes. Male.
