Overalls and DMs/Dworkin? Or long hippie hair and flowy clothes and lives on a lesbian separatist commune?

I'd say more comfortable shoes and the odd librarian. It was potentially the least threatening place anyone could be which is why I found it odd for the "cis gender woman" to keep getting the attacks of the vapours.

LaSquirrel · 17/07/2018 11:01

and had a chat with the blonde woman checking ID

And there it is again.
Work on it Daim, work on it.

VulvaofSteel · 17/07/2018 11:02

Maybe that was the "looked like radfems" part, the idea that some women might not care all that much if they're going grey being a bit shocking for the delicate sensibilities of some?

I honestly, wish I'd gone in with candy striped hair to ruin it all for the protesters

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 11:03

What did she say?

LaSquirrel · 17/07/2018 11:04

Most of the women were not 50 plus. I'd say most were in my age bracket of mid thirties.

That is a lot of 'mosts'. How many 'mosts' make a whole?
Were there 90% women in their 50s and 90% women in their 30s? The mind does boggle at the 180% out of a 100. I'm no mathematician, but...

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 11:05

Apart from I've never said this. My wife is also female.

And males iding as women aren't? Transphobe! Grin

LaSquirrel · 17/07/2018 11:06

Basically, the shifting goalposts of women's ages at the meeting. Just bloody amazing. Maybe they were morphing in some way? Whilst wearing unflattering dungarees, because you know, radfems...

Melamin · 17/07/2018 11:07

I thought it was quite fashionable not to bother with the hair dye these days. A lot of women go noticeably grey in their 30s like I did (and dyed it), so probably more that half of women are grey?

LaSquirrel · 17/07/2018 11:07

Do keep making up stuff Daim, it's fascinating. It really is.

VulvaofSteel · 17/07/2018 11:09

What did she say?

I can't remember word for word but she had to leave in the middle for a cuddle and a cry and then spoke again later. The gist of it was that we're all super mean. And she's been a lesbian for a year who has only had sex with women. I'm really curious about what she meant by women though. Was she being "transphobic" or does she mean with women with penises?

VulvaofSteel · 17/07/2018 11:10

I wanted to respond to them but didn't get called on and they kept leaving.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 17/07/2018 11:10

Yesterday I discovered my back surgery acted as a sex change by bringing me under Snappity's magic female height of 5'8" Today I find that the years I spent with dark green hair - interspersed with pillar box red - were an indication of my transgender identity. Feel I'd better have a little sit down to let my identity settle.

If I'd been there last night doubtless I'd have been written off by Daimbars as a hippy trippy festy-going pensioner. Back then, when we bent gender we had fun.

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 11:14

We are of course really mean insisting on reality and women's rights and stuff. I expect the latter are considered part of her dating pool in theory (or she feels she has to say they are) . In practice, who knows?

AngryAttackKittens · 17/07/2018 11:14

The earnestness was one of the first things that put me off, honestly. I don't do earnest, brings me out in hives.

I'm struggling to imagine how awful it must be to grow up in an environment where dyeing your hair blue is a "signal" rather than just something you thought it might be fun to do. The excessive gendering of childhood has really done a number on young people.

VulvaofSteel · 17/07/2018 11:15

I don't think he was GC, he was bit rambly but I got the impression he was saying he thought it was good for us to talk but didn't actually agree with everything we said but that he would fight for the right to say it and that AS A MAN gender had hurt him cause of the cross-dressing. I didn't notice more than ten men there.. I probably missed some but it was overwhelmingly female and in a forum called " A woman's place" I don't think it was fair that a 'woman's place' was taken by a man. I know these things do affect men too but not in the way, and I think it's important that there be places where men sit down and shutup.

VulvaofSteel · 17/07/2018 11:16

Sorry lost my quote that was to Dianebrewster re:

I was quite happy for the final, male, audience person to have a voice. There were a number of men there, this does affect men, some more than others, and I think his voice as a gender critical cross dresser (if I understood him correctly?) was interesting to hear, for me.

UpstartCrow · 17/07/2018 11:17

So Maria Mac, trans activist in deep cover, or someone who just dyes their hair because they like the colour?

VulvaofSteel · 17/07/2018 11:17

Oh and even if he was GC, I'd still feel the same way. I just groaned when he got picked. Sexist I know Grin

OvaHere · 17/07/2018 11:18

Kathleen's speech from last night

medium.com/@kathleenstock/notes-for-my-talk-to-a-womans-place-uk-brighton-17th-july-2018-f1b607414119

I assume this is the quote that Daim interpreted as Kathleen saying she isn't kind and doesn't care.

I’m criticised for not being ‘kind’ or ‘inclusive’ (of course, these are gendered stereotypes, and people aim them at me because they assume I’m a good female who will feel bad for not being seen as kind).

Vulva, I'm confused. Where am i supposed to have Calle day you all crazy troll hunters?

I definitely called one poster (pftttt) a crazy troll hunter yesterday on the trump an the queen thread, which is plain ass bonkers, but I don't remember doing any general call outs, and I hope I'd remember that, even though I can't get yes and no the right way round at times. . Help me out?

OvaHere · 17/07/2018 11:22

The context of what Kathleen said about trans people and periods.

Some people now apparently believe that trans women can be biologically female, because they take hormones. In fact, being biologically female involves having XX chromosomes, and some or all of a set of primary sex characteristics. There are complications with people who are born intersex, but that is of no relevance to the person who is born a biological male and then who later starts taking hormones. If academics don’t start saying this more loudly, the public will get more and more confused. We will lose a powerful explanation of the sex-based oppression of females; we will also lose the capacity to talk about female health and reproduction, and much else besides. I saw something on social media the other day that said that trans women could get periods. And it had over 1000 likes.

FriendOfScarecrow · 17/07/2018 11:24

IntercontinentalButtCrack It was on the delightfully bonkers Pfft thread.

congrats are due to you for inane and hilarious troll hunting. Although, it would be quite funny if the Russians were investing in having their bots pretend to think you're talking out of your arse on this one. That's a world winning strategy right there. I'd niminate you for troll hunter of the year, but the feminist board regulars have got that one nailed down pretty tight, so you're not a serious contender. Sorry.

FriendOfScarecrow · 17/07/2018 11:24

oops name change fail Grin
