Daim, every single woman was not white.

daimbars · 17/07/2018 10:17

To be fair daimbars had a face like she smelled a fart when she checked in so I think her claim she came with an open mind is spurious to say the least

Can't have been me because I smiled and said hello and had a chat with the blonde woman checking ID. Was also talking to the lady behind me with the same name.

ToeToToe · 17/07/2018 10:18

I was either pregnant, or nursing a newborn baby in 2004. I had no clue about the change in the law until about 2011-2013, and that was from reading MN.

And no surprise none of us knew about the 2004 law change at the time- this was a deliberate ploy by the TAs - who have since gloated about it: "We managed to get the whole thing through without anyone throwing a fit in the press".

Which kind of suggests they knew what they were doing was underhand, and that they were pushing their agenda through stealth.

UpstartCrow · 17/07/2018 10:19

daimbars
No, you have completely missed the point.

You don't even dare talk to GC women at a meeting designed for people to talk to each other.

Lancelottie · 17/07/2018 10:25

Eh? I'm not getting 'male' from Daimbar's posting style. I think she's what she says - a woman in a relationship with a presumably well-loved transwoman, who therefore has a Not My Nigel(la) view of this.

VulvaofSteel · 17/07/2018 10:27

Why is everyone so old and white.

Well, firstly. The average age in Brighton is 37.

It is 90% white.

You might as well ask why were there so many lesbians.

And the answer would still be 'because Brighton'.

Most of the women were not 50 plus. I'd say most were in my age bracket of mid thirties. I think you notice when large groups of older women congregate in these situations because we rarely see it, unfortunately.

Why were they not twenty somethings?
Because the teens and twenty-somethings were outside fighting for their right to have green hair which apparently according to Daim makes one non-binary.

Why were the old (30+) people inside? Because most of us had either A) Given birth and understand women's anatomy and its importance.

B) been in enough patriarchal relationships to see one coming.

Or C) were older lesbians who had lived through enough entitled male bullshit- to yes, see it coming.

Or some combination of the three.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 17/07/2018 10:27

I've just been 'outed' on Twitter by Mumsnetters too.

You outed yourself. By posting the same words are you were posting here. You didn't need a degree in discourse analysis to work it out.

Procrastinator1 · 17/07/2018 10:28

At least Sarah had the last word in the short Argus article. Perhaps the speakers did have some impact on the journalist given the paper's usual stance. Small victories and all of that. Shows how important meetings can be.
I know it's not practical, but I would like to see Stonewall's Umbrella on display at every WPUK meeting together with some statistics on gender reassignment surgery or whatever is the proper term now. Most attendees to the meetings will be familiar, but perhaps not everyone.

daimbars · 17/07/2018 10:30

I think she's what she says - a woman in a relationship with a presumably well-loved transwoman, who therefore has a Not My Nigel(la) view of this.

Apart from I've never said this. My wife is also female.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/07/2018 10:32

Most of the women were not 50 plus. I'd say most were in my age bracket of mid thirties.

So was "over 50" hyperbole or does Daim think that 35 year olds look like 55 year olds because...I don't even know. Because they "looked like radfems" I assume.

(Overalls and DMs/Dworkin? Or long hippie hair and flowy clothes and lives on a lesbian separatist commune? I'm not sure which radfem stereotype we're meant to be picturing here, though I am sure that "unattractive" is the assumption we were meant to make.)

LangCleg · 17/07/2018 10:35

Because the teens and twenty-somethings were outside fighting for their right to have green hair

LOL! Must. Go. And. Work. Always time for a snigger though!

AngryAttackKittens · 17/07/2018 10:40

I wonder if it would be extra confusing to the poor wee things to have one of the evil radfem witches being all "I see that you have dyed your hair - I approve! However, that pastel teal is doing nothing for your complexion and honestly it's making you look like you have the flu, what you need is a nice strong indigo or maybe an electric blue".

NynaeveSedai · 17/07/2018 10:40

Daim is a woman, I know who she is.

Lancelottie · 17/07/2018 10:42

I've confused you with someone else, then, Daim, sorry.
(Or you mean male when you say female, who knows?)

NynaeveSedai · 17/07/2018 10:45

Daim isn't snappity if that's what you are thinking.

Lancelottie · 17/07/2018 10:47

Oh criminy, AAK, I direly embarrassed my offspring last year by doing almost exactly that to one of their friends - 'Oh, nice hair, Katie! YIt looks lovely like that, all shiny and peacock blue - did you do it for the prom or are you keeping it that way for 6th form?'

Apparently it was a signal and I should have known that Katie was trans and guessed that they wouldn't want to be called Katie any more.

Lancelottie · 17/07/2018 10:48

Thanks, Nynaeve, I may well be thinking of Snappity. I struggle with names (and faces!) at the best of times - even more so when people blumming decide to change them just when I was starting to get a grip...

IntercontinentalButtCrack · 17/07/2018 10:48

Really interesting thread. I'll be watching the videos when they go up. I live Wayne too far away from everything to stand a chance of getting to a meeting ever.

So Sorry about getting the yes and no thing the wrong way round last night. It's obviously really pissed off one or two people and I don't know how to make that better. It wasn't deliberate. Not a fan of making myself look like a twat but it doesn't seem to happen any less for the wishing. I'be come o the board to try to learn a bit more about it all and I'm a bit anxious about saying wrong things or looking stupid, but thy ship has sailed already!

Anyway, the numbers are in the survey screenshot if anyone wants to see the raw data and do their own sums or check which way round It's meant to go. Not sure what else I can do. Do we have a sackcloth and ashes emoji I can wear for a week?

AngryAttackKittens · 17/07/2018 10:50

In that case I changed my gender every 6 months or so for a while in my late teens. You'd think someone would have told me!

So are you meant to sidle up to anyone who's just dyed their hair (but only if it's a color not found in nature) and ask if they have something they want to tell you or what?

Mogleflop · 17/07/2018 10:51

No reply? Shocking. I am shocked. Truly. Grin

VulvaofSteel · 17/07/2018 10:56

So was "over 50" hyperbole or does Daim think that 35 year olds look like 55 year olds because...I don't even know. Because they "looked like radfems" I assume.

Not sure, there were a lot of older women. But I don't think they made up the majority. One little musing I had was that was a lot of grey hair, and a lot of that was again, on people my age. As a greying woman of 35 who was musing because she has recently given in and dyed her hair for the first time in 15 years I think that might be down to the feminist demographic.

VulvaofSteel · 17/07/2018 10:58

I'm a bit anxious about saying wrong things or looking stupid, but thy ship has sailed already!

Grin

I donlt think you need the sack, but it would be nice if you didn't call us all crazy troll hunters on other parts MN?

AngryAttackKittens · 17/07/2018 10:59

Maybe that was the "looked like radfems" part, the idea that some women might not care all that much if they're going grey being a bit shocking for the delicate sensibilities of some?
