It was a great meeting apart from a couple of grandstanders who paced about the room and talked loudly out of turn, presumably to show how upset they were that people didn't agree with them.
Interesting speeches. I'd advise anyone to watch it.
Protesters outside, but we couldn't hear them in the meeting.
When I left, with another woman, a bearded chap - old enough to know better, pointed us out as having attended the meeting. I thought we might be attacked, but they just shouted at us.
Brave. Two women.

IntercontinentalButtCrack · 16/07/2018 22:45

Sorry, 58%. Wrong glasses on. Pillock.

Also, happy to hear meeting new went off peacfully

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 16/07/2018 22:52

Although I bet they provide a highly edited version

Poster A: it was dreadful just a pisstake Sad

Posters B: oh goodness...well we will be able to see on the video

Poster A: the what now? Video?.....well i bet its edited

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 16/07/2018 22:53

I don't doubt, to be fair, that there weren't some very uncomfortable moments for poster A and potentially other posters

pombear · 16/07/2018 22:56

Daim as you've been on these threads for quite a while, you'll have been able to follow links to previous WPUK talks, where the full speeches are posted online, as you know.

From everything I've read over the months I've been on these threads, the majority of us here are people who go off and research stuff to ensure we're equipped with facts. We question, check, research, check our own positions, and then come back confident in our positions.

I was hoping your postings from being there tonight at WPUK would give me another perspective to help my understanding from all perspectives-

instead you seem to have gone along to go 'ner ner ner, you're all transphobic whatever you say, and the protesters are lovely'.

When I finally get to a WPUK meeting, I'm going to be going with an open mind. I may be challenged in my views. I may change my views.

I cannot imagine being a person who leaves saying:-

Stayed for a few questions but but had to leave before I was sick in my mouth Are you 13?

Your original bias is not only showing, it's sticking itself on a ten foot flag and waving it at any female who is worried about the trans activism movement.

But congratulations. Like others on (sporting shit) threads, the more you do this type of crap, the more others see it and go WTF?

LangCleg · 16/07/2018 22:57

I realise that's a bit pedantic and OT, but it's awful when wrong stats get repeated and become accepted, especially in something as heated as this can get.

And we also went through the way in which the don't knows, when pressed, rarely break in different proportions to the yeses and the nos.

I will concede the voice of the 66% if you like. It's still a clear supermajority.

NynaeveSedai · 16/07/2018 22:59

Shout out to Sussex police who ensured attendees were safe entering and leaving the venue, and to the lovely security firm who were rock solid.

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ at poster's request.

MsMcWoodle · 16/07/2018 23:01

Vaggie - yes - it was very poor. He seemed super excited to have some women to pick on.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 16/07/2018 23:03

And we also went through the way in which the don't knows, when pressed, rarely break in different proportions to the yeses and the nos.

Ooooh that's so interesting LangCleg. Today you have made me laugh about shit dicks and now educated me on opinion polls. Truly my poster of the day. Have a fucking big CakeSmile

ToeToToe · 16/07/2018 23:05

The lefty dude-bros do seem to enjoy having an excuse to shout at and berate women.

IntercontinentalButtCrack · 16/07/2018 23:06

Lol, we did, and I agreed that you can extrapolate, but it's still not 82.

18:58 [now leaving out the don't knows and just using the ratio of those who expressed an opinion]

18+58 = 76

18/76 = 0.236 = 24% of voters likely to say a doctor approval is needed

58/76 = 0.763 = 76% of voters likely to say a doctor approval is not needed

In fraction version, ¼ say yes Dr approval, ¾ say no Dr approval

In ratio version yes:no is near as dammit 1:3

I'll shut up now and go mutter figures to myself Ina corner

ToeToToe · 16/07/2018 23:08

*Not even necessarily just so called "terfs" either - at Speaker Corner a TA turned on one of his fellow female protesters - really aggressively - one presumes, from the footage, because he'd been told something he didn't like ("stop attacking that woman" perhaps).

PlonitbatPlonit · 16/07/2018 23:10

All the films of talks can be found here www.youtube.com/channel/UCzFqsUqDzyXEQMJVy42NwUw This is where the Brighton ones will be posted too.

LangCleg · 16/07/2018 23:11

No, because in polling, the don't knows generally get discounted because it's axiomatic that they break in proportion to those who expressed a preference. As I already said. So 66% - and that is with very low public awareness of the implications. The numbers are very bad for the pro self ID mob and are likely to get worse.

MsMcWoodle · 16/07/2018 23:12

Daim. That is a totally untrue version of the evening. It was NOT a long pisstake of trans people. The speakers went out of their way to insist that transpeople need human rights and to ask for respect for other people's points of view.
The meeting was about the conflict with women's rights.
It will all be on the video for everyone to see.
And you can't expect people not to laugh at biological men having periods.

LangCleg · 16/07/2018 23:12

Truly my poster of the day.

Eye fank yew!

ToeToToe · 16/07/2018 23:15

You've got it the wrong way round, intercontinental.

76% (of those who expressed an opinion) say a doctor's approval is needed.

PlonitbatPlonit · 16/07/2018 23:18

IBC have your reversed the positions?

OP posts:
ToeToToe · 16/07/2018 23:24

Of course you could argue that the only 18% are in favour of getting rid of the need for a doctor's approval - the current status quo. So 82% - whilst extrapolated - could be indicative of the feeling of the public, and the overall appetite for change (only 18%).

But either way - it's more a majority than Brexit.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 16/07/2018 23:33

IntercontinentalButtCrack
Pick that gavel back up you've attributed your numbers deliberately wrongly Hmm

3/4 say doctor required, 1/4 say no doctor required.

IntercontinentalButtCrack · 16/07/2018 23:36

Oh ffs, I need to not post after 9pm. Yes, all the other way round.

I did say I was a pillock! Mathematically literate, but known to struggle wit her getting left/right up/down yes/no the right way round. The numbers are right though.

Toe to toe, you really can't just throw the don't knows in with one camp or the other. The don't knows are likely to come out in the same ratio as those who did express an opinion, so the ratio you need to use is the yes:no

thebewilderness · 16/07/2018 23:39

Yes trans people welcome and support consultation - this is the flyer the protesters were handing out.

WUT?
They are protesting women gathering to consult while handing out flyers claiming they are in favor of what they are protesting.
oi oi daim!
Cool story, bro.

IntercontinentalButtCrack · 16/07/2018 23:39

Waddle, wtf is your point with the crossed out bit? The fingers of suspicion are very twitchy, possibly understandably given heightened tensions. I got the yes and no muddled, it's late, I'm stupid at leftright too, so shoot me.

Procrastinator1 · 16/07/2018 23:42

Daim, I was there tonight, I think you are telling porkie pies.
