Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Why are trans things discussed in Feminism section not a separate topic or have I missed something?

Slightly confused. Apologies for any unintended offence.

I'm not a dolphin. Bloody biological elitism!

Pratchet · 24/06/2018 09:42

For most feminists you see it's not a case of 'being good enough' as a sort or competitive qualifier, it's more a case of just 'being'.

TransplantsArePlants · 24/06/2018 09:43

Snappity

Define 'good enough'

Popchyk · 24/06/2018 09:43

I would be in favour of a Trans board. For those posters who are transgender and they can talk amongst themselves. I would not post on it.

Back here on FWR we'd still talk about women's rights and experiences. Of course that would include how the transgender issue affects us and our children. Because there are no women's rights if women = (women + men).

LangCleg · 24/06/2018 09:44

Biological elitism = womb envy.

R0wantrees · 24/06/2018 09:45

It is unfortunate that discussons are stll seen as 'trans issues' the issues are in fact women's and children's and how they are affected by trans rights activists.

As these also involve the wider issues of free speech, lobbying and parliamentary process, statutory services and provision these issues affect everyone in society.

ijustwannadance · 24/06/2018 09:46

Why is it our problem that some people can't accept their male biology?

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 24/06/2018 09:47

Sorry. I'm going to need 'biological elitism' explained.

Is your point that there is a hierarchy - on MN/in life/in the wrongthinky minds of rad fems - which please? - that has women born with XX chromosomes on the top and then people born with XY chromosomes on the bottom?

Because there isn't. There's just the first lot and the other lot aren't included in feminism AT ALL.

HTH.

Of course you are right - it is New Hall, with Newnham obliged only to accept those with a GRC. It is still being targeted, as described within.

Pacers · 24/06/2018 09:53

Presumably me selecting which of my children to send to school with sanitary protection from age 10 onwards is “Biological Essentialism”?

Damn, never realised I was arbitrarily choosing which of them were worthy of joining my club.

Hmm
TransplantsArePlants · 24/06/2018 09:55

The other one may feel left out and not good enough.

AngryAttackKittens · 24/06/2018 09:58

Dear Mumsnet, I'm concerned that if I suggest to DH that he books himself in for a prostate exam now that he's not so young any more and don't book myself one too he may feel hurt on the grounds that I'm being biologically elitist by implying that I don't need to get my prostate checked too. Should I...

a. book myself in for a prostate exam too even though I don't have a prostate so as to avoid making him feel slighted?

b. suggest that he identify as still being 25 so the whole issue can be avoided for now

c. LTB?

TransplantsArePlants · 24/06/2018 10:05

Angry

How dare you? You are being ageist in even suggesting it.

TransplantsArePlants · 24/06/2018 10:06

Also,

Angry

How are you coping with not having a prostate?

Snappity · 24/06/2018 10:15

"Because there isn't. There's just the first lot and the other lot aren't included in feminism AT ALL."

Again the exclusion not just of trans women, including those who are legally female, on the basis of biological elitism but intersex women too.

Floisme · 24/06/2018 10:15

I think ‘biologicaly elitist’ must be the latest wokespeak for biologically literate.

TransplantsArePlants · 24/06/2018 10:18

Snappity

Intersex women are women. But I think you know that

AngryAttackKittens · 24/06/2018 10:21

It's hard, Transplants, but I'm consoling myself with the thought of oppressing DH by making him go get his checked out.

(Mwah hah hah, etc.)

TeenTimesTwo · 24/06/2018 10:26

Pratchet Thanks for the link. I'll have a read re what is says about Newnham and see if I need to write...

TransplantsArePlants · 24/06/2018 10:26

Yes. Make sure he gets a woman doctor to do it

Pratchet · 24/06/2018 10:27

trans women, including those who are legally female

None are 'legally female', whatvthey have is the right to be treated as if they were female, except in certain circumstances.

Also it's just pointless if we don't have the same meaning for 'woman'. Conversation is about communication, which is about understanding, which is about meaning.

NotTerfNorCis · 24/06/2018 10:34

When FWR is destroyed there will simply be a move to the next target. LGB has gone, Michfest has gone, Anarchist Book fair, Newham Ladies' College, innumerable social media lesbian and women's groups, the Suffragettes, so many losses.

Was thinking about this. The TRAs wanted in to Michfest so badly, they used bomb threats, boycotts, all kind of dirty tricks. Now that Michfest has gone, who mourns its passing? Not a single TRA. They're jubilant. They had targetted something that failed to validate them, and now it's gone they're satisfied. It will be the same with FWR and all other women's groups which refuse to validate trans ideology.

Snappity · 24/06/2018 10:51

"None are 'legally female', whatvthey have is the right to be treated as if they were female, except in certain circumstances."

Sex becomes that shown on the new birth certificate "for all purposes".

There are no exemptions to that. Sex is absolute.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 24/06/2018 11:17

Please leave intersex women out of it. They are not some gotcha to be appropriated by you and used whenever the answer to your rhetorical question is 'yes, we don't want people with dicks in feminism, not now, not ever.'

AngryAttackKittens · 24/06/2018 11:19

There are no exemptions to that. Sex is absolute.

Just leaving that quote here for the ironic enjoyment of anyone who pops into the thread later.
