Drip, drip, drip... stories like these normalise it... brave etc etc

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/06/2018 17:09

Have the parent(s) even looked into the issues around the blockers?

This is so worrying I cannot believe the child cant just Have short hair and "boys pants" as a girl. .

NotTerfNorCis · 16/06/2018 17:10

'He only decided he was a boy two years ago. He was happy wearing dresses before. '

Hmmmmm.

UpstartCrow · 16/06/2018 17:13

I have trouble with the narrative that a child used the words 'I was born in the wrong body'. Children just dont think like that and they don't talk like that.

fascinated · 16/06/2018 17:13

Mum of six
The Dad doesn’t seem to be mentioned? What does he think I wonder?

Sterilising children who have a healthy body is child abuse. There will be law suits down the road.

Insane that a grown woman can't be trusted to know that she has completed her family and wants her tubes tied, but a 12-year-old is apparently capable of deciding to set out on a path towards becoming a lifelong medical patient.

Why is no one asking or trying to find out what made it so terrible being a girl 2 years ago.. .that trying to identify out of it was the answer

Trishtrash · 16/06/2018 17:22

‘Wouldn’t let me put makeup on her’ Brothers ‘protecting’ her remaining daughter. Burning a bra. At 12 (or even earlier) What gender restrictive nonsense has this child been fed? Lots by the sounds of it.

This, with knobs on

I started to type a reply picking through the more ridiculous points in that article, and then deleted it.... honestly, I think this child being featured in a national newspaper is abusive in itself. It’s just not ok - they weren’t comfortable to go school ‘as a boy’ to the point where they school refused, yet somehow telling the whole nation they “are LGBT”(?) is acceptable?

Just no. Honestly I don’t think any good can come from commenting on this article, it’s DM clickbait. It speaks for itself anyway - anyone with an ounce of logic can see what is happening to this child.

It’s heartbreaking and maddening, but I think we should take care when commenting on specific cases.

RubyShooFan · 16/06/2018 17:33

Oh they’d live in Leeds Hmm

Mail readers ie the general public seem horrified by this.

This is the sort of thing that needs to go in AIBU.

AmberLangslow · 16/06/2018 17:33

It’s in Hessle in East Yorkshire not Leeds. Hessle Academy was mentioned in the Grauniad for trans issues.

RubyShooFan · 16/06/2018 17:35

I agree that this CHILD should not be being featured in a national newspaper and the munchausen by proxy angle is definitely worthy of some proper research.

scotsheather · 16/06/2018 17:35

Do blockers actually make a kid sterile? Permanently? I'm all for kids presenting as they want and even using the name they want is hardly a big deal, doing things to their body when there is no medical need is a step too far for me.

Sarahconnor1 · 16/06/2018 17:35

Leeds again. There's a surprise

Pratchet · 16/06/2018 17:35

They live in Yorkshire. Right. Blimey. It's all a bit coincidental.

He had long hair which he would never let his mum do anything with and he would never let her put make-up on his face

WTAF!?! While I’ve nothing against small children playing dress up with make up, why is an adult trying to put make up on a small child???

Pratchet · 16/06/2018 17:39

The off-label powerful cancer drugs which are used to block puberty, followed by cross-sex hormones, will sterilise a child. The drugs alone can mean a child never grows into full fertility, and also impact brain development. They aren't reversible, and more to the point, most kids who take blockers do go on to hormones. (Ask a transactivist about desistance. They will tell you it doesn't exist.)

Not on topic but is anyone else gobsmacked that she had her fifth kid at 23, or did I read that wrong?

heresyandwitchcraft · 16/06/2018 17:43

I can't even read it, because I'm getting too emotional from the photos. I really hope this is the right decision for this young person, and that they have a happy life. But this makes me so very sad.
