They support ALL women don’t forget.

There is more. mobile.twitter.com/MunroeBergdorf?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

And the response is overwhelmingly critical. The BFI have seriously cocked up here Smile

Think it's totally fair to argue that she as done nothing in film and there are 100s of other woman who have done amazing things in documentary work and there are even other trans woman who have done far more in film than her in fact we even have a film festival up north with speakers who are active in the film industry.

PointlessTV · 16/06/2018 08:46

Some people don't believe people can biologically change sex. Some people don't include people who aren't of the biological sex female.

Some people think some people should Bergoff, and stop taking opportunities away from biological females.

Serfisafleur · 16/06/2018 08:46

It's crazy why Munroe was involved at all. I just don't get it.

Tinycitrus · 16/06/2018 09:01

It’s because she was a man.

There are plenty of women film makers out there but it’s still a male dominated industry.

Munroe Bergdorf was chosen because she was once a man. She has that privilege and status.

Unlike us uninteresting women who were never a man.

That’s how it works - it’s shocking when you see it in action isn’t it.

Tinycitrus · 16/06/2018 09:03

I haven’t read the new speech guidelines (what with three kids, ft job and life and everything) so not sure if I have broken any mumsnet speech rules?

LangCleg · 16/06/2018 09:36

Lisa Muggeridge on this topic:

idgeofreason.wordpress.com/2018/06/16/a-brief-note-of-congratulations-on-your-key-note-speech-munroe-bergdorf/

TL;DR - Lisa can be summed up as saying: Munroe only supports women who never say anything that impacts Munroe's (purchased) identity.

Cwenthryth · 16/06/2018 09:46

Feminism does not need to include everyone. FFS. It needs to include all women - by that I mean, all XX, cunty, potentially-child-bearing humans. The biological class generally known as women.

Feminism is simply not about the rights or representation of XY, be-penised, impregnating humans, however they identify, behave, present, call themselves or modify their bodies. They can have their own movement(s) and spaces, they bloody should, but stay the fuck out of women’s spaces.

noeffingidea · 16/06/2018 09:47

Wow, well said, Lisa Muggeridge!
It's because she was a man. Exactly. If there's a choice between a man and a woman they will choose the man. If there's a choice between a transwoman and a woman they will choose the transwoman. Same result in the end - the woman is sidelined.

No one gives a fuck about my identity tho Grin
Jesus Christ what a load of pretentious shite that BFI thing is. If she was a filmmaker who happened to be trans then I would have much less of an issue. But she’s not. She’s never directed anything g has she?

Unlike us uninteresting women who were never a man.

That's where I'm going wrong. I'll have to become a man then go back to being a woman. I'm sure that will work won't it? oh it seems it won't. Ah well, I'll stay uninteresting.

The Twitter response is really encouraging.

TransplantsArePlants · 16/06/2018 10:06

That Lisa Muggeridge piece is excellent

TransplantsArePlants · 16/06/2018 10:08

Was it Lisa M who was at the meeting in London on Weds?

NotTerfNorCis · 16/06/2018 10:10

Well said @noeffing. We've already seen loads of examples of transwomen being called up to represent women. It might be a fad... but it might not be.

TERFragetteCity · 16/06/2018 10:10

Yes. She is amazing. Right on point every time.

TransplantsArePlants · 16/06/2018 10:12

Gosh my dander is up.

PlectrumElectrum · 16/06/2018 10:18

These individuals who have zero self awareness, have absolutely no shame in taking spaces and places intended for women - when we know there's a women cast aside to enable this nonsense. It's such a male thing to do - rock up far less qualified than a woman & have zero shame in taking something that isn't for you, you aren't qualified for & have no business being involved in. Men have been doing this forever. They're now getting woke cookies for it.

Utter narcissistic twat.

LangCleg · 16/06/2018 10:19

I like Lisa for the way she relates everything back to social policy and equality and safeguarding frameworks. So she can tie in austerity and transactivism to the same impulse - the not-marginalised wanting something, claiming it because they're not-marginalised and can, but ignoring all those equality and safeguarding frameworks and thus generating crisis.

Once you latch on that she sees austerity and transactivism as two different manifestations of the same thing, it's exactly what she says it is - a Where's Wally picture. Once you've seen Wally, you can't unsee him.

PlectrumElectrum · 16/06/2018 10:20

Agreed, she's brilliant at this stuff. Wish I was as articulate.

Lottapianos · 16/06/2018 10:22

Yet another 'women! You're doing feminism all wrong!' load of shite from someone who shoukd just clear off. It's so heartening that there has been a big outcry about this

Moonkissedlegs · 16/06/2018 10:25

The tide is absolutely turning on this isn't it?
