Presumably social media silence will be broken shortly with an explanation of how upsetting it was to be "bullied" etc.
It makes me rather cross because Munroe has a fantastic platform and could use it as a force for good. It is entirely possible to campaign for trans acceptance and understanding without demanding women's rights and protections as part of the deal. It is entirely possible to ask people to think about being more inclusive but not hector women about their understandable and justifiable refusal to accept self-ID because of the consequences for sex-segregated spaces.
The tweet about a limited time left to live is a great example of this. Munroe took the tweet out of context; had the full explanation been given it would have explained that the study the number was taken from included South America, where a high proportion of trans people are engaged in prostitution - which demonstrably raises the risk of being killed or seriously injured.
However Munroe made the number all about Munroe and the context makes the tweet rather tone deaf; trans prostitutes in the Americas in extreme poverty versus privileged celebrity model and activist in the UK.
One can only hope that Munroe is using this period of social media silence as a time for reflection and self-awareness. Experience would suggest that this is unlikely.
