Isn't that great? Terry has got the fastest ever meet time for a girl! Poor Bridget is now third.

I wonder if Terry and Andraya will now get university scholarships based on their poor track performances when compared to their male peers?

Lefty dude bro's are amazingly generous when it comes to giving away women's rights.

It's great how they assume they have the power to decide when women and girls have space to themselves. It's almost as if they own everything and sex segregation is a courtesy that they can remove if they see fit.

Italiangreyhound · 08/06/2018 18:08

@Terfulike

"Frankley it looks like were going to have to set up a whole new international Federation, and new national sporting bodies for biological women"

Is there any reason why sporting women and people with business interests could not do this on the basis that sex is a protected category?

I'd pay money to go and watch all female sporting events.

GeorgeFayne · 09/06/2018 06:28

From a pissed off American:

  1. Sisters/friends: THIS is what happens with self-ID. Feminists warning of harm to females are not fear-mongering. Female erasure is real.
  1. The U.S. law in transgender issues is rather murky. There is no real federal statute equivalent to your GRC or self-ID. States can individually set laws regarding birth certificates, bathrooms, etc. (A federal passport can have gender changed with simply a letter from a physician stating diagnosis of gender dysphoria and that the individual is living as the alternative gender.)

There is, however, a federal law passed in 1972 regarding sex discrimination and education. It's called Title IX. It reads, "no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." This is now being used as a basis for extending transgender rights in all public schools and universities, including athletics. To my knowledge, the court cases challenging this have thus far supported the inclusion of transgender rights with sex discrimination, though it has not been tested at the level of the Supreme Court.

  1. The NCAA is the governing body for competitive collegiate athletics. Fortunately, they still have some regulations in place for sex and participation. Currently, any MTF athlete must have completed one year of testosterone suppression before participation on a women's team. (But can still fully participate and receive scholarships.)
  1. State championships are a big effin' deal here, and Connecticut is a highly populated state. (It has over 260 high schools.) This is not some insignificant local event. These races are the basis for scholarships, and as has been pointed out, potentially life changing. Girls are losing opportunities to accommodate the fantasies of two boys, (for whom I am also quite sorry).
SuitedandBooted · 09/06/2018 08:49

This thread is repeated over on AIBU now.

Lets keep it on page 1, and spread the word!

FermatsTheorem · 09/06/2018 10:49

GeorgeFayne thank you for an American perspective. It's important to remind people that these races aren't just your school sports day where most of the kids don't even want to be competing and would sooner be having a crafty ciggie behind the bike shed anyway. They are major state competitions, with a lot hanging on the results, for teens who are very serious about their athletics.

GeorgeFayne · 09/06/2018 19:28

@FermatsTheorem

You're totally correct. And seriously, this is what is coming your way. Here in the US, it seems things exploded overnight, with minimal discussion or attention to what was happening. It's a real mess.

At least you all have the chance to put boundaries in place and create guidance for these issues. I love that you are talking and meeting and requesting debate. That simply didn't happen here.

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/06/2018 19:50

That simply didn't happen here.

A lot of people don’t want it talked about here either. That’s why things like ManFriday are so important.

It may still go through, who knows? But we will not go down without a fight!

NotTerfNorCis · 09/06/2018 19:56

This is such a mess. What the hell are liberal feminists doing supporting it?

GeorgeFayne · 09/06/2018 20:20

I would also add that this issue has divided many relationships. Some of my friendships with my liberal feminist friends became strained when I couldn't play along anymore, and we really no longer talk/associate. They strongly feel that transwomen are women, feminism must be inclusive, and any dissenting opinion is hatred and bigotry. My very liberal, "woke" brother-in-law and I got into it when he accused me of filling my sister with "hate."

I have to be very, very careful though, with public discourse on this. I could potentially lose my professional affiliations, my reputation, potentially even my license to practice. Freedom to openly speak about this topic effectively does not exist, despite our Constitutional right to do so. Very dystopian.

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 20:46

I am watching - belatedly. I agree with posie about mean speaking out about identity politics. For themselves. It's embarrassing to me that what led me to feminism was actually becoming aware of the gender stereotyping that boys experience (I have two sons). I married a man who was more aware of this stuff that I was, luckily. I thank his feminist mum (my MIL)

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 20:47

Sorry, wrong thread!

BronwenFrideswide · 10/06/2018 00:13

I just looked up the world records for the 400m:

Men - 43.03 seconds
Women - 47.60 seconds

Incidentally Oscar Pistorius ran the 400m heat at the 2012 Olympics in 45.44 seconds.

and that lefty dude bloke just wants us to let them have this one? Has anyone on twitter asked him what sex the people are who are literally killing trans people because they don't like them?

Women's sporting achievements will be wiped out within a decade if this madness is allowed to continue.

Italiangreyhound · 10/06/2018 04:08

We all know that this happens in other sports too.

off.road.cc/content/news/transgender-rider-causes-confusion-for-new-zealand-downhill-race-field-1506

"The news comes as a result of Kate Weatherly's involvement in races but not because she's a transgender rider, but because there was just a three-week period between her competing in male and female categories. Last Sunday Weatherly won the national women's DH championship, 13 seconds ahead of her closest competitor, Shania Rawson, but up until December last year rode in the men's categories."

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 06:00

Freedom to openly speak about this topic effectively does not exist

Without doubt true. My boss has stopped speaking to me totally.

TheCrowFromBelow · 10/06/2018 10:38

Has anyone on twitter asked him what sex the people are who are literally killing them?
So women should move over because men hurt people who look different, god forbid he should challenge the men behind the violence.

It’s interesting that on Twitter the large proportion of men who are decrying this situation are not challenged by TRAs in the way that women would be.

It’s all just one big boy’s club isn’t it.

SupermatchGame · 10/06/2018 10:51

Men should accept feminine men

That's it isn't it - that would solve a lot of this.

No it wouldn't solve any of it. The vast majority of trans women do not see themselves as men. Not any type of man. Hence the diagnosis and treatment. MY is a complete outlier (to put it politely).

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 10:58

What they see themselves as is not what they are.

Transwomen are not women, but trans rights are women's rights.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 10/06/2018 10:59

Maybe it's more - we should accept 'feminine' boys and 'masculine' girls and not to persuade children that this means that they are trans.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 10/06/2018 11:03

Actually it reminds me of a boy I was at school with who was quite feminine. He got a bit of ribbing over it but nothing worse than other kids for a million other things.

Years later we all linked up on Friends Reunited and he was on there 'hi - I'm now living in the states with my WIFE and 3 KIDS - bet you all thought I was gay!!!'

Elletorro · 10/06/2018 11:05

MY seems to have sufficient objectivity to recognise that he has a disorder.

Gende dysphoric men should not be entitled to impose a disordered understanding of reality on women, particularly not if it diminishes women’s rights

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 11:07

I suppose it's an admission that people who understand biology are 'outliers' in the trans mindset.

SuitedandBooted · 10/06/2018 12:07

Just posted this on AIBU MIRROR THREAD come and join in Smile..

The push-back is starting, I hope other parents really take it up and run (sorry!) with it;

usatodayhss.com/2018/connecticut-parents-ban-transgender-track-athletes

Not sure where to begin with this from the article .. Confused......

“I understand that it appears to many people as an inequitable playing field, but they don’t have any context or knowledge about how that athlete’s life would be if she weren’t transgender. And it would be possible she’d be beating their daughters if she was cisgender (someone who identifies with their birth sex).”

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 12:10

That is such a weird thing to write

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 12:15

“A transgender girl is a girl and ought to be treated like a girl,” Erin Buzuvis, the law professor who is the director of the Center of Gender and Sexuality Studies at Western New England College

Clearly Erin doesn’t have a background in biology. Or science. But does have a vested interest in the Gender and sexuality studies dept. I suspect the POMO is strong there... and the lawsuits to be had! Kerchiiiiiing!

SuitedandBooted · 10/06/2018 12:16

And in other News, Loughborough Uni has decided to follow the money.

www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/ssehs/research/centrefordoctoraltraining/

5 PhD's up for grabs:

"One of the most influential, powerful and visible institutions upholding the gender binary is sport – where participation is predominantly segregated by biological sex, rooted in the widely-held beliefs about fairness and the biological advantages associated with being male. Such beliefs are over-simplistic, legitimise discrimination, and hinder the sports participation of transgender (intersex, trans, non-binary) individuals. With the rapidly growing societal visibility of transgender people, there is an unprecedented need to address areas where discrimination may arise"

I do like to see an open-minded starting premise Hmm
