Give women proper pockets

Is anyone else still amazed that those making womens clothes still don't think of such little practicalities as deep pockets, even for coins, keys, maybe phone etc? You can be lucky with winter coats, but at this time of year you need a handbag or rucksack for your items, pain in the butt when you watch DH and DS slip stuff in their trousers and off they go. Some would say wear mens jeans, yeh if they fitted our figure thank you. But no, women have to be curvy and gorgeous and not have bulging pockets, or accept impractical clothing as par for the course.

Only this week I found out that men's jeans have much deeper front pockets tha n women's ones; even more annoying!n
On the plus side, some manufacturers are listening, stores like White Stuff have pockets on lots of their dresses.
I wonder how easy / difficult it would be to put in pockets .... Has anyone tried doing it themselves? I know that's not the point though, they should be there as a default.

Also the clothes with decorative pockets. WTF? Who thought of that? Pockets that are just for show?!
I'd also like inside pockets on coats while we're on this. I remember being jealous of my Dad when I was a kid because I thought he looked really cool when he took stuff out of his inside pocket. I've never had a coat with inside pockets!

Now this is a cause I can align myself to 100%.

Of course there is little incentive to include decent pockets when the same brand also sells bags.

I have a couple of men's jackets that I've had altered to fit and the pocket space is amazing. One has at least four on the inside alone

You are so so right. I’m not fussed about dress and skirt pockets - they’re cute but not useful except for hankies. But pockets for mobile phones, credit cards and building passes on the inside of jackets and coats are an absolute must have. Why do women not get these when men do? Jigsaw went through a brief phase of putting inside pockets in their jackets and coats and then they stopped again. This is a serious feminist issue and I’ll fight anyone who says it isn’t.

I never buy skirts or dresses that don't have pockets now. Once you have a pocket, you can't go back.

I once put on a pair of DP's jeans by accident, and first I was shocked at how little give there was in them, then I put my hand in the pocket and could barely reach the bottom.

I feel there must be a happy medium between that, and mine which even a credit card pokes out of.

One of my pet peeves. I demand pockets. I sew, and everything I make is pocketed to within an inch of its life.

I have this uniqlo skirt in a couple of colours. Proper pockets bring me such joy.

Second cos for dresses and been swooning over the pockets on my new Arket chinos. Also have a jacket from them with inside pocket for mobile!

How did the suffragettes break windows without pockets to hide the half-bricks in? A brick in a bustle, or have I got my historical costumes confused.................

It's the same with exercise gear. I bought some men's running shorts last year as I wanted longer ones. There are 4 pockets in them. My women's one has a tiny zip pocket barely big enough for a door key.

I raided our uniform closet at work and got some men’s trousers to wear as there were no women’s left. The men’s are better quality and have much better pockets which I can fit stuff in

I couldn't agree more, although I have found some outdoor trousers from mountain wherehouse that have lots of pockets in them. Great for even my mobile phone.

I get really excited when i find dresses with proper pockets.

I've had a vague business idea lurking in my mind where women can send their new clothes off to me and my team of seamstresses will retrofit big internal pockets to them for a reasonable fee.

Unfortuately total lack of time has stopped me acting on this business idea. Please do it someone. Please. I will buy.

I support this 100% as I have four different pairs of suit trousers with no fecking pockets whatsoever between them. I do have one suit jacket with an inside pocket but it is so shallow stuff falls out of it. If I could stride about the place with no handbag I would be delighted, if you have a handbag you end up filling it with shite and then it gets heavy.

The only other thing that I would also suggest an inside pocket on jackets with a zip, for tampons and pads. Imagine just leaving a meeting and popping to the loo, rather than having to Jeff your handbag so everyone knows you’ve come on your period.

Totally agree - love it when I find a dress with pockets. Also for my DD - I sewed pockets into her school uniform dress so she could stash a tissue when she had a cold (also for random twigs and pebbles and such!) but why when the boys trousers come with pockets as standard can’t they add pockets to the dresses too?
