So it would appear that Linda has been arrested and interviewed for saying she would protect herself if the tra's attacked.... What the actual fuck?? This is getting ridiculous we need to act!

Point 3 in that 'definition of transphobia' is basically 'any discussion at all of possible concerns that women may have about self identifying trans people being allowed to use whatever the fuck sex segregated space they feel like using'.

In other words 'shut up women'.

Also nice little 'agree with me or I will kill myself' in there too.

AngryAttackKittens · 02/05/2018 09:46

I've only personally encountered one person who threatened suicide with the frequency that TRAs do. He turned out to be what used to be referred to as a sociopath.

Make of that what you will.

OlennasWimple · 02/05/2018 10:15

That change.org thingy says that it's the poor treatment of trans people online that leads to dysphoria... Isn't that the wrong way around? Dysphoria leads to transition, not transition + harassment leads to dysphoria? Confused

AngryAttackKittens · 02/05/2018 10:19

My guess is that what's being suggested is that TIMs would be perfectly happy with their ladypenises and other obviously male physical characteristics if meanies online didn't keep pointing out that "female" is a word that means something, and would therefore be free from dysphoria.

Any old school transsexuals reading that must be laughing bitterly.

lindabellos99 · 02/05/2018 11:01

Thankfully I was not arrested I was invited to be interviewed. When I got there it was clear I was under caution and I agreed to continue. Partway through the interview, it became clear that the meeting in York was recorded and broadcast simultaneously in November. What I referred to was the attack on Maria at Speakers Corner in October last year and indicated that I would fight back if something similar happened to me. As I have said both verbally and in writing since.

Unfortunately for me, I had an epileptic seizure due to the stress of the interview, and I was unable to drive home from Kings Lynn.

Hey ho, that's life; but, some Trans activists insist that the law is used against me expressing a critical view as a proud lesbian feminist, and I will continue to speak out for all women and girls. LB

Baroquehavoc · 02/05/2018 11:12

I will continue to speak out for all women and girls.

And I'm so grateful that you do. Many thanks.

Ereshkigal · 02/05/2018 11:14

Linda Thanks sorry you were put under so much stress because of this. Thank you for speaking up.

Popchyk · 02/05/2018 11:17

Sorry this happened to you, Linda.

Bloody awful that you had a seizure also. Cowardly bastards that they are. Hope you are feeling a bit better now.

Have the police indicated that any further action might be taken?

Thank you for standing up for women and girls. We are right behind you on here.

The petition starter looks to be this lovely person: How to complain about Mumsnet

Mumsnut · 02/05/2018 11:40

I'm sure there are a fair few people on twatter who have made direct threats of violence against LB, taken in or out of context.

I wonder what action would be taken if she laid a complaint against them?

It would be an interesting exercise.

Dinosaurchicken · 02/05/2018 11:42

Thank you Linda Flowers

ScarletBegonias · 02/05/2018 11:44

I reported the petition starter to Twitter last month because of the nature of that person's posts there. I got a reply thanking me and saying that the person's account had violated Twitter rules. They clearly didn't shut it down, though, because I just checked and it's still going.

whitehandledkitchenknife · 02/05/2018 11:47

For all that you are and all that you do, thank you Linda Flowers

Wanderabout · 02/05/2018 11:51

In contrast, complaining about this incitement to violence against women is apparently 'intolerant' now in San Francisco:

Progressive!

And Flowers for Linda

redshoeblueshoe · 02/05/2018 12:04

Thank you Linda

OnTheList · 02/05/2018 13:16

Ridiculous.

I was interviewed under caution for a twitter post I made a few months back. Its just all out of control. I still do not know if anything will come of my case yet, I am not too concerned but my husband is, we cannot afford proper representation..but I am fairly sure I won't need it anyway as one of the officers seemed to find it all rather amusing so I cannot see it going anywhere. It seems TRAs are ramping up their harassment of people who dare to have a different opinion, and the police are helping them!

This Linda Bellos thing though is utterly ridiculous. Its very very clear that she was not threatening anyone. But it seems anything at all that can be misconstrued, purposely, is being used against women who refuse to roll over and accept all TRAs want.

OnTheList · 02/05/2018 13:19

Also mine was not Yorkshire police. Close enough though I guess. Durham.

I get that they have to act on reports. But surely a bit of common sense should be applied? My message was not about anyone specific, and was not abusive. It was talking about how I disagree with puberty blockers. Some TRA took offense (which was odd, I rarely get replies off them as I am on the terf blockers lists) and I assume it was them who reported me but it could have been anyone. I wish I had a copy of the tweet in question so I know exactly what I said wrong. But none of my tweets are ever offensive (unless you count saying men are not women as offensive, like many TRAs do)

But meh. I am not concerned. its a huge waste of police time though really.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 02/05/2018 13:22

Linda Flowers We are all so behind you. Thank you for doing what you do.

Baroquehavoc · 02/05/2018 13:30

OnTheList I hope the situation isn't too stressful for you, and it's all resolved soon.

Linda Flowers

OnTheList · 02/05/2018 13:34

Its not stressful for me. DH seems a bit stressed by it though. I really cannot see it going anywhere at all. I think the police are just under obligation to act on reports tbh. As I said, one of the officers seemed to find it pretty amusing that I would be reported for saying what I said. They seemed as 'on my side' as they can be, mind some of it was sympathy I think as I was having to take morphine during the interview as I was in huge amounts of pain (pretty usual for me)

But yeah, not too stressed, at the moment. If it does go on for a while then I will start worrying.

OvaHere · 02/05/2018 13:37

To Linda and OnTheList Flowers

Sorry this is happening to both of you. It's a shocking misuse of law enforcement for police to allow themselves to be used by TRAs to further a political agenda and target feminist activists.
