“If only the trans-lobby had an iota of self-knowledge and respect towards women who have come by their consciousness through the long hard slog of growing up female rather than by the skill of the surgeon’s knife. And if only the likes of Mumsnet and the Guardian – who are belatedly taking on the trans-lobby – had had the nerve to be feminists five years ago.”

Who are the 'murdered on a regular basis' you speak of Holly ?

LangCleg · 19/04/2018 12:05

I'm not sure why you think being nasty to people who are on the bottom rung of society, and get murdered on a regular basis, is a virtue.

Which people are they getting murdered? You do realise trans people have a lower risk of being murdered than average both in the UK and the US, right?

This is good news for trans people!

AngryAttackKittens · 19/04/2018 12:05

So, as I was saying, I love Julie Bindel, who has been offending men on a regular basis since I just a wee baby feminist in training.

AnitaLovesVictor · 19/04/2018 12:06

I think that's just women, actually, Holly. At a rate of 2 per week.

Ohforfoxsakereturns · 19/04/2018 12:07

HollyBee1 - i’ve yet to see any of the TRAs stand up for women’s rights. Or even show any empathy. Or appreciate why we have women only spaces. Or understand why it is important to protect those.

And i’ve yet to hear a TRA take a stand again Male violence, which is kind of why we need those spaces, and why women need to protect themselves and each other.

FizzyGreenWater · 19/04/2018 12:07

Yep, trans people are people. Nobody said anything different, so you can put down the old straw man (or woman).

Trans rights activisits are nasty misogynist scum with a disturbing agenda, and the trans people I know (the real ones, not the lady dick testosterone-fuelled hate-mongers) are distressed and scared of them too.

JeNeSuisPasVotreMiel · 19/04/2018 12:08

Good stuff.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/04/2018 12:09

Holly -trans women get murdered on a regular basis in Britain? That is a lie. You know who do get murdered on a regular basis ? Women. More than two a week. By males.

BarrackerBarmer · 19/04/2018 12:09

Julie Bindel, lesbian, is a homophobe?

I've heard it all now.

FizzyGreenWater · 19/04/2018 12:09

Trans people are people. And if you don't care about trans rights, she also hates bisexual people.

hmm, you know what, why don't you tell that to the TRAs? From where I'm standing, it looks as if they have more to learn from that sentence than we do. What's the term - truscum? And lesbians - no no, they must accept dicks. And on and on.

Save your breath here.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/04/2018 12:11

I'm bisexual and feel fairly confident that Julie and I would get along fine, on account of my accepting that just because I'm attracted to people of both sexes that doesn't mean that lesbians have to be.

LangCleg · 19/04/2018 12:11

The Observer, the broadsheet which I then often worked for, which emailed me to ask if I would turn my bouquet of barbs into a piece for that Sunday’s paper; I was on my way out and said that, all things considered, my thoughts were best left to social media rather than organs of gravitas – but they were flattering, and doubled my rate, so what is a grasping, grudge-settling girl to do?

LOL!

LifelongVaginaOwner · 19/04/2018 12:12

I'm not sure why you think being nasty to people who are on the bottom rung of society, and get murdered on a regular basis, is a virtue.

She isn't nasty to working-class women. Au contraire

Nousernameforme · 19/04/2018 12:12

@Hollybee1 first off what is it you are trying to say here?
Julie Bindel disgusts me. Trans people are people.

Trans people are people where has it been said they are not?

And if you don't care about trans rights, she also hates bisexual people.
Myself personally I would and will fight for trans rights so long as they do not infringe upon the rights of others.

What has her hating bisexuals (if in fact she does) have to do with anything? You might as well say "the sky is blue I've stubbed my toe" One thing does not effect the other.

As for your last if you want to welcome people with penis(es?) Peni? into places where women should be protected from them eg shelters from domestic abuse and into womens sports making it so natal woman will eventually stop competing. You might want to have a think as to how that sounds.

AnitaLovesVictor · 19/04/2018 12:13

I'm certainly very concerned at young lesbians (or any lesbians) being told to "suck my lady dick' or they're bigots - as I've seen countless times on social media.

But it's not Julie Bindel, or gender critical feminists doing that.

EllenRipley · 19/04/2018 12:14

I'm not a massive fan of Burchill but that was a good read, thanks for posting.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/04/2018 12:14

I guess the working class women that Julie has spent most of her life advocating for are just too privileged to deserve being focused on?

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 19/04/2018 12:15

What’s the deal with the thought process that if you post an article, without comment, that you agree with everything 1.) the article says and 2.) everything the author has ever written?

That’s not to say I don’t agree with the article. I just can’t get behind that way of thinking at all. It’s a rather limiting way to live, non?

Do you have any information about the bisexuality accusations?

OP posts:
AngryAttackKittens · 19/04/2018 12:17

Liking this article also means that we all agree with Burchill's choice of wine, shoes, and loo brush, obviously.

LifelongVaginaOwner · 19/04/2018 12:17

I guess the working class women that Julie has spent most of her life advocating for are just too privileged to deserve being focused on?

All that low pay, emotional work, unpaid caring, actual violence & murder privilege eh? Wink

Ekphrasis · 19/04/2018 12:17

I think several people are getting their Julies mixed up.

This is by Julie Burchill not by Julie Bindel

Ekphrasis · 19/04/2018 12:18

Neither are homophobes though.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/04/2018 12:19

Both are marvelous.

SheCameToStay · 19/04/2018 12:20

Happy **anniversary Julie! Better late than never?

Teacuphiccup · 19/04/2018 12:21

Julie Burchill gives not one fuck, not a single one.
I don’t think it would be possible to agree with everything she’s ever said because I don’t think even she does. She takes arguments to their end conclusion and instigates debate. It’s what she’s always done.
