Just saw on twitter that IW says will do radio interview about Mumsnet. Sorry can't link as on phone.

Wait, what? Is India reporting JHB to the police for using the word 'guys'?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/04/2018 11:32

Julia's taking IW on

Have to say I am now a big fan of Julia. Don't agree will a lot of her politics but she's fearless. And entertaining.

Plus she stood up to MorphOJ, which will always get my vote

RosenbergW · 17/04/2018 11:33

Julia got straight to the point.

Ooh step back, India Willoughby is going to penetrate the Mumsnet debate
AngryAttackKittens · 17/04/2018 11:33

Which is part of what I've been trying to say RE MNHQ. With a certain kind of personality (cluster B) any backing down or attempt to compromise is taken as a sign of weakness and they will then push harder. They're testing the boundaries, trying to see how much pressure and of what kind it will take to get what they want. If members are tone policed into oblivion then they'll interpret that as a sign that the harassment is working and increase it.

CapnHaddock · 17/04/2018 11:35

Julia is really going for India now. Willoughby picked the wrong woman to whine at there

womanformallyknownaswoman · 17/04/2018 11:36

Just wanted to say thx to JHB for inviting 2 women to talk about the Guides Issue instead of one woman and a TIM (where are all the TIFs btw?) Shame one of them didn't front up but that can't be helped. The principle is established that as women, our concerns are safeguarding for women and children as well as free speech and we are the best ones to talk to our concerns because they are ours!!

IW coming after you dorade

This is the problem. We are not allowed to state facts, lest it will be seen as bullying or transphobic.

I'm never capitulating to this cultish behaviour.

Juells · 17/04/2018 11:37

It would be quite amusing to see the stats for MN over the last few days. Certainly, before I knew anything about the site, I'd have toddled along to see if it's as bad as it's been painted.

Juells · 17/04/2018 11:42

IW coming after you dorade

I'm amused by the claim that "this is one of the milder ones about me". Pull the other one, if there was anything stronger than that it would have been screenshot and shared. Why would anyone pick 'the milder ones' when trying to make a point that they were being harrassed and abused?

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 17/04/2018 11:42

Increasing the harassment is simply damaging their cause. They have already tone policed the site by reporting everything they didn't like, and now there's nothing much left to point at because of their own policing .

They are shouting about us discussing the stuff of life here. As if they own the world's ethics. Well, they sure don't.

mirialis · 17/04/2018 11:42

I think JHB has been brilliant on this issue and I hope she does get to start grilling MPs.

Janice Turner has been excellent in The Times and of course Hadley Freeman now speaking out too but JHB is the only person I've heard doing live interviews so far who doesn't skirt around the issue or feel the need to tread any more carefully than she would on any other issue. Andrew Marr and Piers Morgan seemed to have framed the issue as "people have their concerns can't you see why?" whereas as JHB will say "I am concerned, I don't accept this, I believe that" etc.

As for the Girl Guide issue, I see why it is important to mention that sexual abuse occurs amongst children but there is also another reason many parents don't allow their children to share bedrooms with the opposite sex under the age of 18 and that is because feeling like a girl doesn't stop your ability to get a girl pregnant through "consensual" (obviously there is an age question re: consent) sexual contact. Surely it would be naive to think there is absolutely no possibility of some consensual sexual exploration on overnight stays amongst teenagers?

AngryAttackKittens · 17/04/2018 11:43

Also, India talked about India's genital surgery on CBB. Bit silly to claim it's now off limits to refer to. At least dorade didn't mention the Daleks!

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/04/2018 11:44

Daleks?

AngryAttackKittens · 17/04/2018 11:45

There was a rather awkward joke about getting a bit excited during a viewing of Dr Who. Daleks were specifically referenced.

There's something for everyone, I guess.

R0wantrees · 17/04/2018 11:46

Fascinating to watch how the most active or to use JHB phrase 'militant' of TRAs are now being retweeted by IW and piling in.
This is where the pressure on MN / WPUK etc has come from either directly or indirectly.
There is a need for investigation... within this group.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/04/2018 11:46

(See me trying to be all nice and polite and avoiding the jokes that are just crying out to be made, MNHQ? Halo )

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/04/2018 11:47

OK... that's all you AAK Grin

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 17/04/2018 11:48

Crikey, I had never heard of IW until IW went on CBB and it was all over the place, particularly the public treatment of an 82 year old woman.

Everything known about IW has been put in the public domain deliberately in exchange for payment by IW, but now it's not ok? Why not live a quiet life if privacy was wanted.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/04/2018 11:49

Someone could probably find the clip if they tried...

It really was awkward though. I do not forsee a future in stand-up for India.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/04/2018 11:49

Actually, yes I remember now. Much oddness

TurningTables · 17/04/2018 11:49

Yes best leave the time travelling jokes out.Halo

Flomper · 17/04/2018 11:50

Not harassment and not bullying. Simply someone expressing their opinion. You may not like or agree with that opinion but that person is free to express opinions you don’t like. Next?"

Brilliant response from JHB on Twitter just now

AngryAttackKittens · 17/04/2018 11:51

A friend the other day said that she can practically see me chomping at the bit to snark more and restraining myself here and she was so right.

Halo
AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/04/2018 11:53

AAK

This will help

womanformallyknownaswoman · 17/04/2018 11:54

JHB to IW on Twitter just now:
No, my logic is that causing offence is not - and should not be - a crime in this country. The right to free speech matters more than feelings. You are intent on taking offence at anything and everything. That’s just silly.
