Justine stands up for FWR in The Times

SwearyG · 15/04/2018 00:21

Justine is quoted in The Times today saying that TRAs are pressuring advertisers to withdraw from the site but they’re willing to take the hit to keep the discussion open. It’s very heartening after the threads of the last few days re FWR being hidden and the worries about this space being censored.

Flowers to @JustineMumsnet - thank you.

Three cheers for Justine!!! Grin

The comments underneath are great.

Note the boast from a TRA in the Times piece that they had been phoning the HoC using different voices.TGLWGH.

Smokeahontas · 15/04/2018 10:44

Thank you Justine, Mumsnet & everyone who posts to keep this fight alive. I’ll be boycotting anyone who withdraws ads.

SianRunner · 15/04/2018 10:45

Brava, Justine.

Happy to do what I can re contacting advertisers, threads in support etc.

Free speech matters. Women's rights matter. This is quite a moment in history. That it's become entwined with capturing a driving force of capitalism is a bit ironic, but needs must and all that.

OnTheList · 15/04/2018 10:48

Thank you Justine Flowers

jellyfrizz · 15/04/2018 10:52

Well said Justine! Another thank you here.

concretesieve · 15/04/2018 10:55

Thank you to Justine and all MNHQ staff Flowers

FloraFox · 15/04/2018 10:59

So great to see this article. I suggest we support MNHQ by clicking on lots of the ads on the site. The advertisers will see the traffic coming from MN.

Imherefornow · 15/04/2018 11:01

I let out a whoop of joy when I came across this article this morning!

Thank you thank you thank you for publicly supporting womens right to discuss how changes to the gra will affect them.

SianRunner · 15/04/2018 11:09

The recipes section is sponsored by Lidl.

SianRunner · 15/04/2018 11:10

Good for Lidl ^^

LefkosiaTigers · 15/04/2018 11:13

I am happy to put my money where my mouth is. I can see which businesses to continue supporting. I already boycott M&S and TopShop.

What is TGLWGH?!?

RosenbergW · 15/04/2018 11:13

*Who else?

Political parties, especially Labour as Owen Jones informs us they like to troll women.*

Yes, so thats:
Marks and Spencers.
Lush.
Top Shop.
Primark.
Mercure.
The Guardian.
Labour.
Liberal Democrats.
Green Party.
(Conservatives? Let's see their statement in response to the petition)

There are six on this list that I am personally withdrawing all support and sales from, and I'll make sure I talk about this to the people in my life.
I would really appreciate a list of any organisation/company that supports Mermaids. That will be a lifetime boycott from me, you can't turn the clock back on child abuse.

Ereshkigal · 15/04/2018 11:14

Women's Equality Party

UpstartCrow · 15/04/2018 11:15

SianRunner · 15/04/2018 11:15

I think there are some banks supporting Mermaids.

Flowers Flowers Flowers to MNHQ for standing up for freedom of speech - saying it is greatly appreciated doesn't even begin to cover it...

MsMcWoodle · 15/04/2018 11:18

Thank you Mumsnet. What you are doing is so important.

willowbythcam · 15/04/2018 11:21

Thank you Justine - but I am upset that FWR has now been hidden. Nevertheless I salute you.

MrsWooster · 15/04/2018 11:22

Thank you MNHQ.
can't see the Aibu thread about which brand we follow- link..? Ta

DawnMumsnet · 15/04/2018 11:35

Morning all, have just posted this message on the thread in AIBU too.

Justine will no doubt be along later, but for now we'd just like to say thanks for all the support shown here. We really appreciate it. Flowers

And in answer to the many questions about the FWR topic - we'd removed it from Active Conversations as a short-term measure only but we're happy to say it's being moved back into Active Conversations tomorrow when our Tech team are back on.

Thanks again, everyone. Here's to civil debate. Gin

Theblueplanet · 15/04/2018 11:38

Yay! Thanks Dawn and all at MUmsnet Towers

rowdywoman1 · 15/04/2018 11:38

Applause for MNHQ.

Sometimes it's right to stand back and take a look at what's happening. And yes to civilised debate #WTGLWGH

LangCleg · 15/04/2018 11:39

Thank you, Justine, Dawn and everyone at MNHQ!

youvegottobejoking · 15/04/2018 11:41

Thank you for standing up for women's right to free and open discussion. The TRA's totalitarian attitude towards debate tells us what they are. Bullies.
