Any one see this?

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/04/12/radical-feminist-warned-refer-transgender-defendant-assault/

The asked that preferred pronouns be used

Ms MacLachlan replied: "I'm used to thinking of this person who is a male as male."

The receding hairline tweet was taken into account. The slur of comparing women to a Dr Who badly, wasn't as far as reports go.

FeministBadger · 14/04/2018 09:12

When I was a witness in a court case the most infuriating thing was that the defence told blatant lies and misrepresented their thug of a client as someone who was really intimidated and lashed out in self defence despite what was later revealed as a history of assaults and property damage.

I have so much respect for Maria who managed to hold it together in the face of such a situation where even the basic facts have been lost.

TerfsUp · 14/04/2018 09:34

Great article by Janice Turner, who gets it.

While I am dismayed by the judge's comment, I am happy with the verdict. It is one more victory for women and one more defeat for TRAs.

Juells · 14/04/2018 09:44

Feminists want a reasoned discussion on the law but face opponents who use social media and boycotts to silence them

That heading is brilliant. The problem in a nutshell.

Very good comments as well.

Juells · 14/04/2018 09:48

Interesting point made in the comments, which I think would bear repeating at every opportunity.

the current crop of male leftwing transactivist supporters like Owen Jones and Matthew d'Ancona will be seen in the same light as those leftwingers who backed the Paedophile Information Exchange in the 1970s.

What a wanky comment from another guy... If one can confidently state that the translobby does not represent the vast majority of trans people (interesting avoidance of the word women there) could one confidently state the same for the feminist movement and women?

The women weren't the ones who were bashing anyone who didn't agree with them.

boatyardblues · 14/04/2018 10:16

The comments on that article are starting to flood in and the majority are sensible and balanced. When your usual comparison is Twitter it can feel like you are swimming against the tide, but whenever this gets a wider airing the majority view supports the need for more debate and reasonable safeguards.

AncientLights · 14/04/2018 10:27

Thank God for Janice.

Popchyk · 14/04/2018 10:35

Saw this on Janice's Twitter feed.

I've commented on the WEP thread also.

Women's Equality Party Lambeth's tweet about Maria's case:

twitter.com/wildlx/status/985067808705916928

"We liked a tweet from sisters uncut, about showing solidarity. We’ve had nothing to do with the case. We fully support trans women"

crispbuttyfan · 14/04/2018 10:38

so the judge is good, because he dismissed Tara's defence and stated she was guilty to assault, but the judge is bad, because he pointed out Maria's provocative behaviour preceding the assault and since and he is bald?

Or maybe he is right, and it was an accurate understanding of the behaviour of both sides? And maybe some people just see what they want to see....?

PencilsInSpace · 14/04/2018 10:48

What was Maria's provocative behaviour before the assault?

AnitaLovesVictor · 14/04/2018 10:57

I believe it was "being a woman at Hyde Park Corner."

Pesky bloody women. They're everywhere now, aren't they?

AngryAttackKittens · 14/04/2018 11:01

Being a woman who wasn't there to support a man. Should be illegal, that.

flowersonthepiano · 14/04/2018 11:05

Yes, she was 'unhelpful'. How fucking dare she?

BarrackerBarmer · 14/04/2018 11:09

Have you watched the videos, crispbuttyfan?

It sounds like you haven't.

After the attack I spent a fair chunk of time watching them and freeze framing to work out who was doing what to whom.

Women were meeting to go to a secret venue.
TRAs had closed down the venue with threats.
Forcing the women to meet at Speakers Corner to receive little pieces of paper with the new venue on.
The TRAs then spent the day tracking down where the women were meeting so that they could harass them. The convicted assaulted posted his threat. I watched their conversations on FB.

And then the three main attackers (watch the videos) hid behind placards to put up hoodies and run out to attack Maria.

Some TRAs were filming the women and maria was filming them right back.

The judge was right to convict of assault.
But deserves condemnation for refusing the assault victim compensation because she wouldn't call her male attacker she in court.

Justice does not decide that victims can only be compensated if they are submissive and nice to their attackers IN COURT.

AngryAttackKittens · 14/04/2018 11:13

I wonder what the judge would have done if when he demanded that Maria call Wolf "she" Maria had said "but that's perjury".

picklemepopcorn · 14/04/2018 14:16

Can you link, Barracker? I've not seen a decent video.

BarrackerBarmer · 14/04/2018 14:20

I'm about to go out but search YouTube for speakers corner attack. I know they kept getting deleted but I think some are still up.
There were several taken from different angles and some with freeze framed commentary.

Miranda had some on his channel, not sure if they are still there

picklemepopcorn · 14/04/2018 14:35

Thank you!

NotAgainYoda · 14/04/2018 14:39

£400 for launching yourself, fists flying, at a woman.

I had a lump in my throat watching that

picklemepopcorn · 14/04/2018 14:40

So, when it looks like Maria is behind camera thief, holding on to her, they are connected by the camera strap?

Datun · 14/04/2018 14:47

I'm not sure which bit that is, pickle. It's ages since I watched it. Maria holds onto the thief to stop him getting hold of her camera which has been thrown to the ground, as far as I remember.

This was taken as an act of aggression by Maria. Not the act of theft prevention, that it was.

picklemepopcorn · 14/04/2018 15:10

Thank you. I'm off to watch it again. At first sight, it's hard to credit anyone can see her as the aggressor. Gaslighting.

picklemepopcorn · 14/04/2018 15:20

Ok. She has lost the camera already, but is quite understandably holding on to the sweatshirt of the person who took it from her and threw it on the ground. Possibly trying to hold them long enough for someone to be get a look at the person's face.

PencilsInSpace · 14/04/2018 15:24

Maria's full account, with all 3 original videos is here.

But, seriously, much has been made of the fact that I fought back instead of just meekly handing over my camera. When one of Tara Flik Wood aka Wolf’s partners in crime finally succeeded in wrestling the camera from me, I held on to him to stop him running off with it. When he threw it to the ground and I heard the crack of it breaking, I pulled his hood down to expose his face in the hope someone would get a picture. Contrary to the nonsense being spread online, at no time did I have him in a headlock! He struggled to get away but I held him tightly, he tried kicking and I kicked back. (I just love Magdalen Berns’ description that he seems to think he’s in a mosh pit!) I eventually lost my hold on him when Tara and his mate with the ponytail ran up and started thumping me. I ended up on the ground and they scuttled off like the pathetic cowards they are.
