Lily Madigan - Twitter Update

DarthArts · 07/04/2018 20:43

LM has changed the name of their twitter account, deleted all previous posting history and unblocked lots of users.

Has tweeted (in response to someone else) that non-one has spoken to them about online behaviour.

LM did get in a twitter spat after comparing trans struggles to racism and slavery and got a lot of previous supporters complaining. LM did issue a twitter apology about this then took a twitter break and has resurfaced with this new "clean" account.

@Madigan_lils

So not sure what's happened here.

I would hope maybe a degree of self reflection.

As ever, let's make sure any posts are not offensive please.

Meh. I’m still blocked. If labour HAVE requested that Lily steps down, it will make my day. Other than Trump, I haven’t seen anyone less suited to politics in a long time. The constant refusal to engage in debate, the wilful obliteration if anything to do women’s rights, and the woe-is-me-chuck-me-a-tenner stuff is beyond parody for someone occupying a womens Officer position

Truscum · 07/04/2018 23:22

😳

And there was me saying I was going to try not to be deleted...

There are screenshots proving that LM was indeed displaying the behaviours (sexist, racist) that I said. I have screenshots but will just leave it there. I don’t want to mess this space up for people.

I may have to stop posting for a while.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/04/2018 23:22

Agree Mamaryllis.

nauticant · 07/04/2018 23:22

I see what you're doing here DarthArts and can only wish that people would listen to you. And to MN

MN is invaluable for the gender critical response to the trans ideology. People need to stop feeling they must have their word over LM when this could result in MN deciding, perfectly reasonably, not to support people feeding their own egos if it harms the website.

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/04/2018 23:22

No Mummy, but MNHQ have made things pretty clear in the linked thread. I'm willing to bet they are deluged with accusations of transphobia. I expect their advertisers are getting complaints that MN is transphobic too. These are the tactics TRAs use.

I will continue to assert that transwomen are not women, I will not accept being referred to as 'cis' but will try very hard not to 'misgender' individual transwomen. I tend to use initials or 'they'.

Trumpdump · 07/04/2018 23:26

Apparently, The times used a very unflattering filter on LM in their article today. Lots of TRAs are tweeting about it.

I don't like LM, but I was very insecure about my appearance at their age and would have been devastated if that had been done to me.

Should1stayorshould1go · 07/04/2018 23:27

surely this should feel like validation?
Women are usually held to higher standards in public life....

nauticant · 07/04/2018 23:28

I've never written a sentence where "they" or a person's name has prevented me from not having to go along with a pronoun I disagree with. (Usually from the perspective of not wanting to apply "she" to someone saying "I am a woman" while broadcasting with their words and actions the complete opposite.)

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/04/2018 23:28

Bore.
Agreed. Yes, I suppose there is enormous pressure.

I’m baffled by the ze/hir thing. Just looked it up because they sound very Germanic. To see that ze comes from German Sie. And hir is Middle English feminine pronoun. So both feminine pronouns in fact. Baffling.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/04/2018 23:29

I assumed that was LMs own filter, it is very soft focus and feminised, with doe eyes etc. I wouldn’t think the Times would have used that sort of an insta filter.

LangCleg · 07/04/2018 23:32

I may have to stop posting for a while.

No, Truscum, stay! I also find it difficult to bite my tongue. But I'm going to try.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/04/2018 23:34

This is the article in question I imagine.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/04/2018 23:36

Oh the soft focus one is at the bottom. The one in the header is a pic I’ve seen used many times before, The Times haven’t altered it as far as I can tell . It is possibly from the pic of LM with JC ?

LangCleg · 07/04/2018 23:37

I think Lily has used social media to be deliberately goady. I also think "the list" and the secret TERF hunter group (I forget its name) on Facebook was way over the line.

But the responsible entity here is the Labour Party. I hope its shameful behaviour with regard both to its women members and its exploitation of an clearly unstable person comes back and bites it hard on the arse. Labour have been unforgivable here.

Trumpdump · 07/04/2018 23:40

This is what they are saying was edited.

Mummy I agree, all quite bizarre.

I draw the line at attention-seeking, made-up pronouns. This is Mumsnet, not a Beowulf/Middle Earth mashup, after all Grin

I will stick to he/she/they and him/her/their.

Weezol · 07/04/2018 23:47

I think the right hand image does look altered, bleached out and contrast pulled to make everything look harder, lines and shadows deepened.

Well, Lily is being treated exactly like a woman by The Times.

donquixotedelamancha · 07/04/2018 23:49

That is a horrible photo, though the original isn't much better. It looks like they've just turned up the brightness and sharpened it a bit. Not a nice thing to do to anyone.

Ironically picking the least flattering photo possible has been standard tabloid treatment of women they wanted to get at for years.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/04/2018 23:51

It looks lighter, but otherwise the same to me. Normal for newspaper pics to look like that isn’t it? I have one of a friend in the paper, for something nice I should add, and it is just the same.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/04/2018 23:53

Agree LangCleg.

PissedOffWoman · 07/04/2018 23:54

Truscum please do not stop posting.

You are an incredibly important voice in this debate.

(I absolutely hate having to type your username though. It makes me unbelievably sad and angry that you have been called that by anyone.)

HomeTerf · 07/04/2018 23:57

The photo of Miranda Yardley that appeared next to it looked similarly altered. I'd guess it's the result of resizing a low-res image (or something technical) rather than anything personal.

SirVixofVixHall · 08/04/2018 00:05

True Home.

thebewilderness · 08/04/2018 00:11

I thought everyone knew by now that colors on your screen may be different from the original? Have they never noticed how strange people look in print.

DarthArts · 08/04/2018 00:24

Thanks @nauticant

On the photos I don't think either are overly flattering.

I've seen much better pictures of both LM and MY in a public context that could have been used.

I don't set much store by Guiliana so as a source of which is filtered and which is the original I'm not going to assume that's correct.

I would however agree that if the photo has been tampered with it's unacceptable.
