Lily Madigan - Twitter Update

LM has changed the name of their twitter account, deleted all previous posting history and unblocked lots of users.

Has tweeted (in response to someone else) that non-one has spoken to them about online behaviour.

LM did get in a twitter spat after comparing trans struggles to racism and slavery and got a lot of previous supporters complaining. LM did issue a twitter apology about this then took a twitter break and has resurfaced with this new "clean" account.

I would hope maybe a degree of self reflection.

Looks like the account @Madigan_lils no longer exists.

There is no way Lily would have said that without an epiphany moment or something having been said. (Or both).

Maybe the black woman comments have provoked that. But I do lean towards the intervention theory.

I am pleased to see a 'agree to disagree' response. It is desperately needed.

I would like to think this will be sustained.

I would dearly like to believe this is a genuine change.

The cynic in me thinks theres either a strongly worded letter from someone legal or something from Labour HQ about social media and the election thats forced it.

I hope that I am wrong and this continues after the election. I'm not holding breathe. Its going to take some time to rebuild damaged trust. Something that didn't need to happen.

I regard LM as a lost opportunity to prove that transwomen really think and have the same concerns as women. Instead LM by just making it all about trans, totally threw away that. Its sad for all. I think anyone who sees Lily as a brave hero for creating needless controversy, needs to seriously think about how else Lily could have handled things. No of it needed to happen.

The best thing Lily could do now, would be to prove all the 'cynical old transphobic witches' on MN wrong by behaving and not reverting to type.

Nothing would make me happier.

In view of MNHQ's posts on other threads, I think misgendering is really unhelpful.

Struggling to see how reading somebody’s public Twitter is anything like stalking. It’s a social media platform designed to allow users to globally broadcast every half-formed thought that crosses their minds.

And considering what stalking actually is, and the effect it has, the comparison is in poor taste.

This person reminds me of Hugo Schwyzer. A malignant narcissist who got a tremendous amount of mileage out of the sin and redemption cycle when he was posing as a male feminist educator.

MN is not the place for such acts, imo. Not if we want to be able to continue to discuss these issues. MNHQ have made things pretty clear.

I’m not blocked (yet) as I keep a low profile on Twitter. LM appears to have returned to the madigan_lily account again.

I didn't think Lily was yet on hormones or had had any surgery. I don't believe in fluffy pink girlie brains so believe I would be misgendering Lily to call Lily she. Happy to call men who have had full surgery and hormones she but I do think that it is nonsense to say people pick their own pronouns, also we call loads of people "he" or "she" in conversation if we see strangers depending on what gender they appear to be at a casual glance.

Please can we avoid mis-gendering.

I know many have strong views on preferred pronouns, but if so can you just use initials instead.

Sometimes its just an unintentional slip, but it starts to look deliberately goady when lots of posts do this.

I posted this for information, not to start a "have a go" thread.

I personally hope this marks a shift in LM's behaviour and attitude irrespective of the reason for it. I'm not hugely confident, but will wait and see.

To be fair to Lily. I don't know for sure, but I think that although they've tweeted some ridiculous and potentially harmful stuff, they've never been one of the death/rape threats brigade. Have they?
