Lily Madigan - Twitter Update

DarthArts · 07/04/2018 20:43

LM has changed the name of their twitter account, deleted all previous posting history and unblocked lots of users.

Has tweeted (in response to someone else) that non-one has spoken to them about online behaviour.

LM did get in a twitter spat after comparing trans struggles to racism and slavery and got a lot of previous supporters complaining. LM did issue a twitter apology about this then took a twitter break and has resurfaced with this new "clean" account.

@Madigan_lils

So not sure what's happened here.

I would hope maybe a degree of self reflection.

As ever, let's make sure any posts are not offensive please.

Aw, bless.

KatVonSweet · 08/04/2018 14:19

He/she/they/zee/zebedee needs to wait till after the mumnetters finish the Sunday dinner before raining down righteous justice on our silly woman heads.

Just for the record DH did ours and it was rubbish

I don't know-they're pretty serious...apparently someone knows someone who knows someone who owns a computer so they are going to take down Mumsnet.

Monstamio · 08/04/2018 14:38

Does anyone else think that "deal with the rest of the terfs" sounds a whole lot more threatening than anything on this thread?!

MargeH · 08/04/2018 14:45

Maybe it's a typo?

"Deal with the rest of the turfs", as in laying a new lawn?

Or would that be turves? Is there a gardening part of Mumsnet?

Pythagonal · 08/04/2018 14:48

Of course there's a gardening part of MN, @MargeH. Women love flowers, don't you know. FlowersGrin

It's quite depressing to see the number of trans people who block views from other trans people just because they are different. I followed that link and then just clicked on a few trans people on there and realised I was blocked by a few of them.

So trans people - if you are reading this - blocking people with different views doesn't make them go away.

Saying that - I have blocked a few people on my feed - but that was because they were incredibly abusive and personal.

howlsmovingcastle84 · 08/04/2018 14:53

Ooh-we need a new lawn. Do you think they would come and do ours??

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 08/04/2018 14:53

Lady gardeners are no cissies.

sashh · 08/04/2018 14:57

Just a heads up that I've archived this entire thread and will be reporting it to the cops because targeted harassment is a CRIME. Thank you

Oh good, can they go interview Lily?

R0wantrees · 08/04/2018 15:01

yetanothertranswoman I believe this is a really serious consequence (whether exploited or deliberate) of the blockers... I think many people will have used the blockers in good faith to exclude the derogatory and abusive posts on twitter. However, in doing so they have then been put in a position where any of the nuanced posts are also excluded... there are accounts which have deliberately goaded, collected and created through propaganda a narrative which is then brought back over the 'block wall' thus demonising and adding to beliefs about those have been speaking out...

Sunflowersforever · 08/04/2018 15:49

To add, I said before I didn't think LM was good at politics, but that isn't to do with sex or gender. Thatcher was the first female PM and did zilch for women, and her current successor isn't much better.

Howyoualldoworkme · 08/04/2018 16:40

'New' member is a software engineer. Just saying......how lovely it is to hear about all the lovely different careers Wink

MsMcWoodle · 08/04/2018 16:43

I think this person should report themselves.

People are weird. Some people are weirder than others. I really like people, as I find the endless variety in weirdness fascinating.
Weezol your estimate of 150 real people actually on the list is thousands and thousands off. I wasn’t on the original list (I checked when it was posted) and then wasn’t on LM’s first personal block list (when terfblocker was suspended) but now am on Aimee Challenor’s list and am subsequently blocked by LM, the utterly random LBGT LibDems fiasco, and most of the other very active TRA users. I don’t think I’m blocked by Paris Lees, but I don’t think PL gives a shit - doesn’t seem to be as juvenile with the blocking thing as the rest.
Groups of people were actively using the lists to target and harass though - contacting employers, and threatening to get people fired for hate speech etc (usually just misgendering).
The targeting of Venice Allen is deeply troubling.

MsMcWoodle · 08/04/2018 17:05

Yetanother Grin

thebewilderness · 08/04/2018 20:34

Some of these peeps may discover that their targeted harassment of MN is actionable.

hipsterfun · 08/04/2018 21:30

I stayed in all day for nothing. Just glad I didn’t bother baking a cake.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 10/04/2018 05:31

@thebewilderness

Some of these peeps may discover that their targeted harassment of MN is actionable.

Food for thought - is there some way we can further highlight this targeting and harassment??

thebewilderness · 10/04/2018 05:49

I have every confidence that the MNHQ is doing what is necessary at their end.
People on twitter could make a fuss or possibly a journalist might want to write about what happens to women's organizations when they come to the attention of misogynists in powerful positions.
It is food for thought and worth brainstorming on.

Hypermice · 10/04/2018 06:14

I was doing our companies training for GDPR yesterday and one thing that stick out for me is that it’s now forbidden to use an automated screening tool to create an outcome, for example like using an automated filter to weed out CVs.

I wonder if TERFblocker would fall foul of this bit of GDPR? It is in effect using an algorithm to put you on a list which is marked as transphobic.

Any data protection officers on?
