Schoolgirls wear shorts to stop ‘upskirts’

Happens a lot here in Korea - there are even signs on the subway saying ‘don’t take upskirt shots of women on the escalators’.

What the hell is up with men like that? All the porn in the world available to them and it’s not enough. Their minds are utterly depraved.

noeffingidea · 28/03/2018 06:29

I don't understand why schools don't just ban skirts altogether. Everyone wears trousers then things like this are no longer an issue.

ThatsWotSheSaid · 28/03/2018 06:31

How about instead of banning girls from wearing skirts they teach the boys about sexual harassment and punish them harshly if they do it?

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2018 06:32

How does it stop up skirts though? Surely it just means they take a picture of a different bit of cloth?.
Anyway as always women change their behaviour because men apparently can't

BertrandRussell · 28/03/2018 06:37

“I don't understand why schools don't just ban skirts altogether. Everyone wears trousers then things like this are no longer an issue.”

Because why should girls change what they want to do because some boys are arseholes?

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 28/03/2018 06:37

Why should they ban an article of clothing or stop girls wearing something? Yes curtail the freedoms of girls because of predatory boys, that makes perfect sense. Hmm

NotTakenUsername · 28/03/2018 06:56

We were wearing shorts under our skirts long before mobile phones where a thing, much less camera phones.

Because select nasty boys, and girls, would pull them up as a form of humiliation light hearted banter...

For the boys there was ‘debagging’...this was running up behind a boy and pulling down his trousers and pants. This tended to be carried out almost exclusively by select boys, but I remember the nastiest girl in our year doing it once, much to the delight of a the boys. Hmm

You had to laugh at the humiliation light hearted banter you received because experience taught that to do anything else was to single yourself out as a target and become the butt of much more regular abuse gentle ribbing...

I actually felt worse for the boys in this cruel game, it somehow seemed more humiliating to have to bend over and collect your dignity than it was to have it fall back down after having dark cycling shorts exposed. A quick smooth of the skirt and it was over.

noeffingidea · 28/03/2018 07:44

Why should they ban an article of clothing or stop girks wearing something
Because skirts are inefficient and pointless in most settings, schools being one of them.

Oh bore off. You don't like skirts- fine- don't wear them.

In the upper school in my local area the girls must wear skirts. They have to wear them. The shorts are a layer of protection needed because of the clothes they are being forced to wear.

NotTakenUsername · 28/03/2018 07:50

Should say upper schools

AJPTaylor · 28/03/2018 07:51

dont get me started
recently moved
i have discovered that local secondary uniform for girls is a pleated skirt. 19" long in dds waist size. she is ridiculously tall. no trousers allowed. no leggings allowed. she will be wearing cycling shorts. fgs it feels like we have moved to the 1950s.

noeffingidea · 28/03/2018 07:52

Lass bore off yourself. Skirts aren't as practical as trousers. If they were then no one would feel the need to wear actual trousers under them, would they? Teachers also wouldn't need to waste time regulating the length. My kids went to a school where only trousers were worn, no one had a single problem with it.

TERFragetteCity · 28/03/2018 07:53

It isn't a crime.

Even teachers are at it.

www.the-pool.com/news-views/latest-news/2017/44/london-teacher-who-took-upskirt-photos-of-his-students-may-face-a-ban

There is a petition to get it made illegal...why it isn't already - makes you wonder about the people who make laws doesn't it?

KennDodd · 28/03/2018 07:54

I agree with the point about just having trousers as school uniform, girls and boys dressed the same. Also helps solve the trans issue. Same for flight attendants etc, same uniform and shoes for both sexes.

I also agree strongly with this teach the boys about sexual harassment and punish them harshly if they do it

NotTakenUsername · 28/03/2018 07:55

Unbelievable. Angry

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/03/2018 07:57

It's the same old problem with an odious modern twist isn't it?

It is a crime now though isn't it?

NotTakenUsername · 28/03/2018 07:57

I agree with the point about just having trousers as school uniform

Quite. And the reason we don’t suggest moving everyone into skirts is because they are so bloody impractical in the school environment.

meditrina · 28/03/2018 07:57

Yes, the main action on this should be about eliminating upskirting, by effective SRE and effective sanction for anyone who does it.

But the idea that knickers are insufficient underwear for those wearing skirts is, unfortunately, gaining traction.

KennDodd · 28/03/2018 07:59

Also trousers for young girls, they can run in the more easily, climb, do handstand, protect knees if they fall over, skirts are impractical for little girls and limit there playing or at least mean they have to take their skirt into account.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/03/2018 08:01

There's no way I'd wear a skirt without tights anyway - I get the tube a lot and the escalators are so steep so you can see right up skirts without trying. Plus I have seen quite a few backsides bared when a train whips up a gust and flippy skirt goes flying.

And no one deserves to see my backside.

KennDodd · 28/03/2018 08:01

Sorry, such crap spelling!

LassWiADelicateAir · 28/03/2018 08:01

Lass bore off yourself. Skirts aren't as practical as trousers. If they were then no one would feel the need to wear actual trousers under them, would they?

I never wear trousers. If I were still at school how would it be more practical to do a Latin translation or a write an essay wearing trousers than a skirt? But hey go ahead and limit choices for girls as opposed to making boys behave.

At my son's school they now allow girls to wear trousers - he left a while ago but I often see pupils from his school and have not seen any of the girls wearing trousers.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/03/2018 08:02

I agree - I still have scars on my knees from when I fell over on the playground in 1976 and gouged my kneecaps.

LassWiADelicateAir · 28/03/2018 08:03

Quite. And the reason we don’t suggest moving everyone into skirts is because they are so bloody impractical in the school environment

What utter nonsense.
