Next week in Leeds! Other guests TBC.....

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 17/03/2018 02:15

I've heard it from multiple sources but I want to fact check

Interesting. As I said above: a two year sentence for someone who was 16 at the time of the crime is very harsh for a simple burglary

Trumpdump · 17/03/2018 02:45

What an insult to the victim's family if true. Sad

I just Googled it and several of PL's articles about violence towards trans women popped up. Angry

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 17/03/2018 08:22

I thought it was 8 months? Or were they sentenced for 2 years and got 8 months?

It's a shame there aren't many details about it, because it means we have to speculate about it, which isn't a good look! There must be a source somewhere - I don't even know PL's previous name?

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 17/03/2018 08:22

Served 8 months I mean

transcendentphobic · 17/03/2018 09:33

I tried googling as well. I think there's some sort of blackout on his past/ age/ real name. All the online info seems to be controlled by PL, which is at least...interesting.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 17/03/2018 10:19

There seems to be stuff removed under EU law. Anyone outside the EU able to google?

transcendentphobic · 17/03/2018 10:24

Logging via VPN should help - good idea!
Do you know which EU law that would be?

Ereshkigal · 17/03/2018 10:34

"The right to be forgotten"

Ereshkigal · 17/03/2018 10:35

Which people pointed out would lead to exactly this sort of situation where violent people could whitewash their history.

OlennasWimple · 17/03/2018 11:04

It's fairly normal for a prisoner who is sentences to two years to get out in just under one, with time on remand taken off and time for good behaviour.

Yy, PL seems to have done a thorough job of erasing the past online. Go EU privacy laws!! Hmm

BeyondDeadlySiren · 17/03/2018 11:14

I have found one (and only one) violent robbery in the right area at approx the right time, that had a two year sentence given to an 18 yo. And a lot of searches re that have been removed under privacy law too. Obv not gonna share it as it could be someone else entirely. Trying to find the judgment now...

LangCleg · 17/03/2018 11:25

IIRC, there was another person involved.

But yes, most of this has disappeared due to the right to be forgotten.

stargirl1701 · 17/03/2018 11:40

Maybe someone could persuade Julia Hartley Brewer to go on.

Ereshkigal · 17/03/2018 11:49

It worked on the recent Vic Derbyshire programme. They had three TIMs and one GC feminist on, til there were complaints and then they changed to two of each :)

I didn't know that! I only knew the programme was happening when Pilgrim and DrW mentioned it. Who complained before the show?

OlennasWimple · 17/03/2018 11:52

Thinking about this some more...

I find PL particularly interesting, because I actually agree with PL on some quite big stuff (Brexit, under-representation of the working class in key professions such as the media).

Question Time isn't often a one issue show, and AFAIK this edition will be about stuff facing younger people in the UK rather than just trans issues. So calling for a gender critical panel member as well doesn't really make sense. Surely trans people can appear on national media and talk about other stuff without there always having to be someone there to put the GC perspective?

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 17/03/2018 12:02

Yes I was thinking about that too Olenna. Im not sure if the GRA changes will even make QT, I didn't think self id was a well known enough issue?

I think that PL gets chosen for these things for the right on zeitgeist more than anything. I don't think they are articulate or charismatic enough to do anything other than parrot left wing stuff they have heard from other places.

Ereshkigal · 17/03/2018 12:22

Yes I was thinking about that too Olenna. Im not sure if the GRA changes will even make QT, I didn't think self id was a well known enough issue?

I think they will, the meetings and crowdfunding etc have been in the news.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 17/03/2018 12:33

I ruled out the initial crime I had found, but dear god if it's the second one (17 yo in 2005 convicted of robbing someone in their home - with others - in 2003) then the world needs to know about it Shock

BeyondDeadlySiren · 17/03/2018 12:33

If it is this one, I can certainly see why all references to Paris' pre transition life have been wiped

SpringNowPlease2018 · 17/03/2018 12:38

Is this being done as under-30 for any other reason? I know occasionally they say they really want a younger audience or it's in a uni town or something - just wondering what was said about this.

how Lees gets on a QT panel at all is beyond me.

transcendentphobic · 17/03/2018 13:12

BeyondDeadly
Is the second crime searchable? Wonder how that can be erased. Cheryl Cole's conviction for assault is still widely available.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 17/03/2018 13:18

The conviction is showing on judgement searches yes (and the story does show on bbc news at the time, though no tabloids?) however there is no way to link PL to it, so I guess there's no reason to hide it. Cheryl Cole's conviction can be searched by her name

Ereshkigal · 17/03/2018 13:20

How do you know which area Beyond?

Ereshkigal · 17/03/2018 13:21

I'll use my proxy to look when I get home, I'm at my mums with only my phone.

transcendentphobic · 17/03/2018 13:24

Ah maybe that's the reason for wanting to erase the past.
Peole can still find the link but not connect to a name. I heard it was pretty violent.
