Yes worrying, makes you wonder if they want the daft ones as easy to influence and control.

I always felt that about Tony Blair too. If they're not stupid they are the sort to sell their own grandmother etc again easy to influence with trinkets that go with power.

YY Lang Cleg and Kochab
If I think too much about how long we might have to wait for some other centre left, electable leader and movement to emerge, and what could happen in the meantime, I feel very worried.

KochabRising · 17/03/2018 20:42

I suppose the problem is that no one who wants power should be allowed anywhere near it, and people who are genuinely smart enough to run a country well tend to be earning megabucks doing something else rather well. Like firing teslas past mars orbit, or running clinics for medicine sans frontiers.
In the middle we have the cess pit that is local politics (where I lived kept the ‘rotten boroughs’ bit of Private Eye in copy for years) which stamps out many talented and compassionate folks and then we still have a feeder system largely composed of old boys who’ve used daddy’s connections to get to the top. Technocrats they are not.

vanishingly few cabinet ministers have serious real world job experience (a career in nursing, teaching, engineering, caring, running a FTSE company - I’m not talking too floght CEO stuff as a must I just mean a decade or two DOING something.) . Almost none have any science, medical or tech experience. Few seem to have a deep understanding of even basic stats.

It means that they are ill equipped and often quite ignorant.

Goldenbough- that makes me so upset, our 13 year old daughters, so worried that they would want to move countries. Sad WTF are these politicians doing to this generation of girls? I have supported gay rights, I've never voted Conservative, I support everyone being treated with fairness and decency. But the trans "umbrella" is now so huge that I could tick the box myself- It covers fetishists, porn-sick fantasists, disturbed, jealous, hate-filled young men. It isn't just the transsexual that (the public think) will be in girls' spaces. It is all the others. I've had a cross-dressing, abusive fetishist flash his erection at me, when working in a clothes shop, it was frightening and horrible. Men like this would love to get into changing rooms with teenage girls, and people like Lianne are enabling them.

GabeIsShocking · 19/03/2018 15:19

I posted this on the Labour and Green threads.

It keeps going back to a loss of centre. If only the Lib Dems would do what they say they are on the tin or Labour moved over to the centre.

I am part way through a book Witchcraft by Malcolm Gaskill, he covers witch trails, religion and politics. We have not only lost the centre ground in politics, we have lost Christianity it's being replaced by other faiths like transology. We have men not trusting women old as time and a new type of "woman" on the scene, so the first double witch hunt in history.

TheGoldenBough · 19/03/2018 18:27

SirVix agree with every word.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/03/2018 06:59

she has just commented on R4: "surrounded by misogyny..." ho hum, how can we tell if biology does not exist?

Kyanite · 23/03/2018 07:16

It's like the invasion of the body snatchers or something...all of them have bought into this. How can these intelligent female politicians not see that they are being used to overturn women's rights?!

Kneedeepinunicorns · 23/03/2018 08:34

I'd seriously debate 'intelligent'. 'Makes the right noises for promotion' may be more accurate.

PissedOffWoman · 23/03/2018 08:46

What I want to know is who the hell has got to all these women? And how?

This times …1000

Kneedeepinunicorns · 23/03/2018 09:32

Professional politicians aren't big on integrity - which is why initially JC looked so refreshing- they pretty much say what benefits them and their agenda in the moment. Cameron used to more or less give two contradicting speeches in a morning if he had two different audiences with differing agendas, and not be remotely bothered about it.

The issue is why at the moment is it good for politicians to throw away womens rights with both hands while pretending they are too thick to realise what they're doing. Why is that the positive career move at the moment? Why is that serving the people at the top who hand out the promotions?

Reddwolff · 23/03/2018 14:33

So it's you mean horrible women, biology is fake and these men are the most persecuted. You must all dedicate yourselves to serving these men.

On twitter there is this person there pushing out fake science that says "Actual scientist here. The evidence for brain gender and body sex differences have been known about for years and are well documented by very famous and respected neurobiologists. At this stage, it is as much an "idea" as evolution."

They then go on to say "The standards XY and XX model sadly poorly explains as the Y doesn't actually equal male. A YY, for example, would be born female. The male part is actually on the X but activated by the Y."

Good example of never, ever trust self-proclaimed credentials because if they are a scientist they would know the Y chromosome is not a complete chromosome and YY is a lethal defect in all cases. You need the X, women have the second X chromosome muted as you don't need two copies of the same one working at the same time. It is also rage inducing seeing someone trying to back up claims for gendered female pink fluffy brains when it is so clear there is no difference in cognition or capability of human brains by sex.

YourVagesty · 23/03/2018 15:31

What the actual...?

So glad i'm not on Twitter anymore. I'd just be homicidal on a daily basis.

LangCleg · 23/03/2018 15:37

It's amazing how many "actual" biologists are on Twitter and how many of them are TRAs. Quite flabbers my gast at times.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 23/03/2018 15:45

Oh isn’t it just Lang. I was told a medical degree was “irrelevant” in the discussion by someone who works as a lab tech in a secondary school. Hmm

NoSquirrels · 23/03/2018 16:25

Is it this article being referenced?
www.nature.com/news/sex-redefined-1.16943

I was interested to read it - not least because usually no one bothers linking anything even vaguely scientific- but ultimately it’s unhelpful. Women are oppressed as a class by nature of their child-bearing potential. Transwomen are oppressed in different ways. Biology does still matter.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 23/03/2018 16:41

I can't argue with them (I'm far from a top expert, just a measly student - though one of those people clever enough to realise that the more I learn, the less I know! Wink ).
As they kindly mentioned evolution, it's like arguing natural selection with a young earth creationist. Utter fruit-loop-ism.
