Bullying, aka terrorism, works.

Mayday01 · 15/03/2018 19:27

I find it disappointing that as a former DV worker, she will know all the tactics abusers use, which are reflected in the trans agenda approach.
And have an indepth knowledge of how vulnerable abused women are BECAUSE of their biology.
And still come out with this shit.

SuitedandBooted · 15/03/2018 19:31

'Outdated ideas of biology' - bless, she's trying so hard Grin

Need some additional education, I think, or as my fave twitter warrior might say;

On the one hand, they constantly say biology doesn't matter - women mustn't be "reduced" to biology etc.

On the other, they insist that biology is on their side because biology "proves" that there are 112 genders, or something.

There's no fucking logic to it.

Lottapianos · 15/03/2018 19:34

Oh FFS. It's just all so bloody infuriating. Such stupidity. And extra bloody infuriating from someone who is a former DV worker! Where's her hand wringing and boo hooing for the women who are murdered or beaten to a pulp by men, and think they're going to a safe, female only environment?

KochabRising · 15/03/2018 19:42

‘Biological sex is a social construct’

I despair really.

GENDER. GENDER IS THE SOCIAL CONSTRUCT LEANNA.

Sex is a neutral biological fact. It’s an objective, measurable attribute.

Here’s how to tell the difference Leanne: careful now there’s some science coming up but most primary kids can grasp this so I have hope.

If you can measure something or count it or observe it as an either/or phenomenon then it’s an OBJECTIVE measure. Height, mm of rainfall, sex as M or F, a lightbulb as on or off. That’s measurable. It’s objective. It’s neutral in terms of worth.

If you cannot measure it or it depends on opinion, it’s SUBJECTIVE. So love, how good a piece of artwork is, whether women should wear dresses. If musicals are fabulous or a bunch of dire shite. Subjective.

Sex can be objectively measured. It’s real. When an archaeologist digs up bones they can say ‘here we have an adult female’.

Gender feelings are subjective. That’s whats a social construct. Work towards getting rid of the daft and constricting narrow gender expectations we have and the world will be a happier place.

NoSquirrels · 15/03/2018 19:44

The enemy is a backlash to women’s progress which has seen misogyny promoted by some of the most powerful men in the world.

I think we can all agree with the misogyny. But I'm not sure how promoting trans rights will help with that, as the proposed changes to the GRC affect such a minority that we shouldn't be fussed about it affecting women's rights in any way, so it's hardly going to stick it to The Man by its own logic.

The enemy is narrow gender norms which limit our children’s expectations and lead to bullying and abuse of anyone who’s seen as different.

So why the jiggery fuck are we expecting them to conform to the "opposite" gender? Why is it SO important that trans people need to be recognised as the opposite gender - so important that they'll fight so hard for it. Why can't they join us in agreeing that the fucking gender thing is oppressive TO EVERYONE and if we all didn't conform then everyone would be happier?

I want to see an inclusive feminism which brings women together rather than dividing us. A feminism that recognises our shared challenges while valuing our differences. A feminism that understands that gender is a complex and deeply personal thing, and is about so much more than outdated ideas of biology.

I mean - "outdated ideas of biology" Shock Someone wrote this, someone sense-checked it - several someones. And none of them thought err... not sure about that phrase, Leanne.

As a working class woman, it’s important to me too that feminism recognises that some women face multiple oppressions due to their class, race, disability or gender identity and that all of these need to be tackled.

Fucking YES. So why are we trying to enshrine stuff in law that makes a hierarchy of need amongst these groups? Supportive does not = saying yes to everything if it disadvantages others.

Flooffloof · 15/03/2018 19:49

As previous posters have already said, where is this coming from?
We finally get a few women in good positions to help other women at a national level, then they gas light us like this.
It's really not genius level to know self id is not going to end well for women.
How much money is being spent on trying to convince us about self id And 97 genders and children on puberty blockers.
The more these women in power try to convince us, the more I feel like we are walking into some film or dreamscape where children will be kept child like forever. Why would that be?

Gacapa · 15/03/2018 19:49

What a pile of shit.

FencingFightingTorture35 · 15/03/2018 19:54

The appalling experiences of trans women housed in male prisons shows why it’s so important that people are given appropriate accommodation and support.

This just makes me so angry I don't know what to do with myself. Am I really supposed to feel sorry for the likes of Marie Dean?

SuitedandBooted · 15/03/2018 20:03

She's not getting the most supportive replies on Twitter.
Lots of challenging, from pretty well informed people.

Cheers me up a bit - might not need that Gin!

LangCleg · 15/03/2018 20:03

Well, there we are. More demonstration that we are led by outright bloody idiots who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

Can any of these people hear themselves?

Bejazzled · 15/03/2018 20:05

Idiotic sheep of a woman. If Nicola Sturgeon wants it, she wants it.
How can "ideas of biology " be outdated? Did science change all of a sudden. And what has being "working class" got to do with it - virtue signalling waste of space.

KochabRising · 15/03/2018 20:18

No one has picked her up on saying sex is a social construct.

It’s a totally incorrect statement that’s easily refuted. She’s simply wrong. And yet on that she’s building her biology argument

🤦🏻‍♀️

XXHelenaXX · 15/03/2018 20:22

LADIES, LADIES!

Why are you commenting here in this echo chamber when Leanne has a comments section right under the statement, which none of you have had your say on?

Just about to write mine ...

Please leave a comment here thank you www.leannerhondda.wales/inclusive_feminism

Anatidae · 15/03/2018 20:34

I’m buggered if I’m using my real email on that.

I’m sure she will read the thread as it’s been pointed out so if you are reading:

*sex is not a social construct, it’s an objective observable item.
gender is a social construct
please explain what you mean about outdated ideas of biology - I’m a scientist and the pathways leading to sexually dimorphic
adult forms are well characterised. Please be aware that casting doubt on the Science is a new TRA tactic - please don’t fall for it because if you come up against a scientist in a debate they will be able to knock that entire argument down and you will look foolish. And I’m sure you’re not foolish.
*individuals with penises should not ever be housed in female prison estate.
*puberty blockers and surgery on children is abuse. When these children reach adulthood they are going to start suing people.

Finally I’d encourage you to have a read around the feminism boards here. Women are extremely worried about this issue, and women are half your voters. I personally am so worried about it that my next vote will be a single issue one. I will not vote for any party or person who supports a violent, homophobic transgender policy over women’s rights.

Guess who has given Leanne a pat on the back...only bloody LOJ!

UpstartCrow · 15/03/2018 20:49

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 15/03/2018 21:11

I just can't even.

How have we got to a place where 'gender identity', a feeling, is the objective, universal truth that we should be basing our laws around, and biological sex is the 'here nor there'?

I think it's actually quite frightening the lengths that people will go, the extent to which they are willing to abandon all critical thinking, the way in which they will ignore what is starting them straight in the face, in order to appear 'progeessive'.

SmurfOrTerf · 15/03/2018 21:11

Fucking hell. I seriously had no idea that so many politicians were so thick.

Prestonsflowers · 15/03/2018 21:11
