Unfortunately the only party that hasn’t drunk the kool aid is UKIP and I can’t vote for them.

I don't think it is a conspiracy. I think many people haven't given the issue any thought beyond 'it's an extension of gay rights, and just like gay rights it doesn't affect me if we give the trans lobby the rights they want'. The 'other side' is seen to be the conservative argument of 'get back in your gender boxes'. They lump feminists in with them , and don't realise that there is a third way of viewing the issue.

That's an explanation for ordinary people not 'getting it', but Leanne Wood actually had to write that drivel (or at least read it after someone had written it for her), and I'm astonished that any serious politician could put their name to that.

Kochab’s beautiful correction of Leanne Wood’s terrifying belief that ‘biological sex is a social construct’ has cheered me right up. It should be printed up on the side of buses as a public service announcement for anyone struggling with reality and/or stuck in the gender trap.

GENDER. GENDER IS THE SOCIAL CONSTRUCT.

Sex is a neutral biological fact. It’s an objective, measurable attribute.

Here’s how to tell the difference Leanne: careful now there’s some science coming up but most primary kids can grasp this so I have hope.

If you can measure something or count it or observe it as an either/or phenomenon then it’s an OBJECTIVE measure. Height, mm of rainfall, sex as M or F, a lightbulb as on or off. That’s measurable. It’s objective. It’s neutral in terms of worth.

If you cannot measure it or it depends on opinion, it’s SUBJECTIVE. So love, how good a piece of artwork is, whether women should wear dresses. If musicals are fabulous or a bunch of dire shite. Subjective.

Sex can be objectively measured. It’s real. When an archaeologist digs up bones they can say ‘here we have an adult female’.

Gender feelings are subjective. That’s whats a social construct. Work towards getting rid of the daft and constricting narrow gender expectations we have and the world will be a happier place.

I can't see how it would be big money for Pharma. There just aren't the numbers of patients to make it worth it for a pharma company even with a massive push to make more people use hormone blockers or cross hormones. I worked in drug discovery for a few years and this just doesn't feel like the sort of area most pharma companies would be interested in. Maybe some that hold the relevant patents but for Pharma as a whole I just can't see it.

I bet Leanne Wood has at some time or other sneered at Trump for rejecting climate science but here she tramples all over biology to wave her own right-on flag.

I still can’t vote UKIP and I’m not in Scotland. Depressing state of politics at the moment. For me this topic has really shown Labour’s contempt for women up.

I find the comments to this and LM tweet about being searched quite comforting -people are starting to realise what self ID means and speak up. I think humour is a great way to challenge it so Ricky Gervais will have an impact. Seeing a glimmer of hope.

If biology is outdated, they really need to prioritise research to find out why every person I know who's got pregnant is female, and none of the males I know ever has, irrespective of gender cos that seems like quite an important thing to me....

Igneococcus the numbers are small but are increasing with the pushing of the trans agenda and with them being lifelong and potentially worldwide they could still be pretty lucrative, especially when you consider that some countries such as Brazil are now making off patent drugs at very low prices due to the monopoly of big Pharma you can see why they might want an increasing and lucrative market. If you push this belief it might mean an ever increasing market, small at first but potentially...

Eight paragraphs but still no room to explain how transwomen are women; just reasons as to how the nice thing to do would be to treat them as if they are.

I’m bloody proud of all the women spending time after time speaking out and explaining how much this is bullshit. Keep going, we’ve got this. There are too many of us to shut up.

Wood herself has a child, I believe. Did she just settle down with a totally random person of unspecifiable sex and believe each had an equal 50/50 chance of getting pregnant in that relationship? Biological sex being totally a social construct. Or, perhaps, was the other person quantifiably male with male gametes and is she respectively female with female gametes? Was she surprised when she found out she was the one who was pregnant rather than her partner?

But what really really annoys me, is that I don't feel able to post under my real name on her website, not because it might affect me, but because of the effect it might have on the rest of my family, as we have a distinctive surname, and I don't want my DH or DC to have problems at work/school . Why have we come to this, that it's scary to tell a politician they're speaking a pile of poo, when they're speaking a pile of poo?
