What on earth is going to happen to women?

I’m actually really worried. In the past couple of weeks I’ve seen Theresa May’s speech on how being transgender is not an illness, on how they will be given equal rights including access to vinerable women’s spaces. I’ve seen labour following suit, criticising Margaret Thatchers speech about homosexuality and likening it to the transgender movement, saying they won’t get it wrong. It’s not the same at all! What is going to happen to women in all this? It seems their rights will be pushed to one side and I’m actually rather worried. Can enough of us stand up to be heard?

NameChanger22 I’m going to assume you’re very very sheltered from the real risk of self ID and not just a sea lion, so I’ll type slowly 😉 A TIM is a man who claims to be a woman, you might know them better as transgender women, but the more realistic name would be a Trans Identifying Male.

Now can you answer the question?

Riverside2 · 04/03/2018 20:54

last time NameChanger22

It's already been discussed in Parliament that men should be allowed in women's toilets, hospital wards, prisons etc etc.

do you need to see something yourself in order to realise that it happens?! Do you think Parliament talked about it because they were bored and looking for the most way-out thing they could find to discuss?!

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 20:54

If I ever did see a transgender person in the toilets, I'd just go in and close the door where I can't be seen, do a wee and then come out. If a perverts wants to pretend to be a woman so he can see me wash my hands, then let him.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 04/03/2018 20:56

Well, in a few years womens sport will be dead

It's already starting, isn't it? The NZ cyclist who within the space a 3 weeks went from doing the man's race to the women's race (and won), The Aussie rugby player

It will change sport in the same way that former soviet republics changed sport through steroids/drugs/hormones...

I have heard about people who think that theirs is the universal experience and unless it has happened to them it has not happened to anyone. I had never had the misfortune to try to talk with one before now.

PositivelyPERF · 04/03/2018 20:57

good for you NameChanger22, but I’m still waiting.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 20:57

Riverside - I need to believe something is really a problem before I start worrying about it.

When there are loads of normal blokes in women's toilets all saying "but I'm a woman and I need access to your cubicle" then I'll start to worry, I'll also eat my hat. Not going to happen.

Riverside2 · 04/03/2018 20:58

here's a factsheet that might help people who are unaware

sages.org.uk/publications/sages-factsheet.html

if you cba with the preamble, head for the section "Impact on women and girls"

here's an 18 year old boy/man who was allowed to use the girls' toilets at a Catholic school

Truscum · 04/03/2018 20:58

Namechanger I understand. To the rational mind of course all of this sounds crazy. It is crazy.

But this is a real threat to women. I have been abused and harassed (death threats only, rape threats are apparently reserved for women) online and in real life by spotty boys who say that I am transphobic.

To put that into context - I am a transsexual, a TIM.

I am abused and shouted at for saying ‘hang on - this isn’t right, people with a penis shouldn’t be in a woman’s rape centre etc.’

And any woman that dares voice a concern about this removal of protections is subjected to much worse.

By men who have no interion of surgery or ‘transitioning’, who will keep those genitals and are already calling lesbians transphobic for not sleeping with their ‘lady penis’. By men that derive sexual pleasure from violating women’s spaces.

If you are genuinely new to this I would suggest two things for you to look up.

AGP’s and search Twitter for the ‘transgirl’ hashtag.

That will show you who it is exactly who is lobbying for these removal of protections for women and children.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 20:58

I don't know what a sea lion is either??

SnibbleAgain · 04/03/2018 20:58

You know that men can and do harass women without stepping over the line of illegality, don't you?

So you're 12 and you go in the loo and he stares at you. You go in and shut the door and sit down and he knocks and starts talking to you. you come out and wash your hands and he follows you to the basin and stands close behind.

You run away and have learnt to be really fucking wary when you're in the bog.

Men do this sort of stuff all the time, at the moment though they aren't allowed into the ladies (by social convention), that is set to change.

Riverside2 · 04/03/2018 20:59

NameChanger "I need to believe something is really a problem before I start worrying about it."

ever been harassed at work? Would you be okay with that guy waiting for you at the sinks? Especially in a large office where there might be a long corridor separating you from other workers...or you are working late and there's hardly anyone around?

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 04/03/2018 21:01

I think it's only a tiny percentage of men that want to be pretend to be a woman. There are much, much bigger things to worry about than this.

That's the thing, they don't have to pretend to be a woman. They don't have to dress as one, act like one, have any surgery or change their name.

SnibbleAgain · 04/03/2018 21:01

"When there are loads of normal blokes in women's toilets all saying "but I'm a woman and I need access to your cubicle" then I'll start to worry, I'll also eat my hat"

You can't imagine a load of pissed up blokes barging into the ladies in a pub / club for a laugh? And refusing to move on the basis that they're "trans"?

PositivelyPERF · 04/03/2018 21:01

I don't know what a sea lion is either are you a politician, because you’ve done everything in your power to refuse to answer the question, so I’ll take from that, you think men’s wants should over ride a woman’s needs for a female space.

SnibbleAgain · 04/03/2018 21:02

There are lots of men who will do this for a variety of reasons.

There are loads of weirdos about and there are loads of men who enjoy upsetting women.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 21:03

I'm not on Twitter. I don't use social media much at all. I don't know what AGP's is.

I'm genuinely new to this. Some people have a life outside of the internet.

Lefthanddown · 04/03/2018 21:03

www.cbc.ca/beta/news/politics/transgender-inmates-csc-policy-1.4512510 - Canada are now imprisoning people according to their stipulated gender, rather than anatomy. How long before this becomes a significant issue for women in prison? If a male is moved into the female sector due to their human rights, where does the female go when their human rights get violated?

2rebecca · 04/03/2018 21:03

I think the men in toilets thing is less of a problem for many women than the people with penises in women's prisons and people with XY chromosomes in women's sports and men being allowed to enter women's refuges by saying they are women.
My toilets at work are all unisex and I think making it about toilets trivialises the issues although my gym has communal changig areas and no cubicles and I wouldn't feel comfortable if people started flashing penises around.
The sexual stereotyping the transexual movement feeds on also disturbs me. Wtf does it mean to be "really a woman?" My job can be done by either sex, my hobbies are similar to my husband. The main differences are biological. I don't believe I have a special girlie brain and I'm rubbish at multitasking but good at reading maps.
The transexual stuff relies on sexist nonsense.

bellasuewow · 04/03/2018 21:04

Don’t let namechanger derail a very good and relevant thread please. The fact that they are posting so much on the thread shows how relevant it is and how much they don’t want this to be discussed.

mail article one man talks about bonding at uni with friends over humiliating women this sort of man / group will find the new laws useful

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 21:05

I know men are bastards, I'm not that naive. This thing that hasn't happened yet is all new to me.

Riverside2 · 04/03/2018 21:05

NameChanger22 "Some people have a life outside of the internet"

yes - and a life which is massively at risk because of this.

do you live in Lark Rise or something?!
