What on earth is going to happen to women?

I’m actually really worried. In the past couple of weeks I’ve seen Theresa May’s speech on how being transgender is not an illness, on how they will be given equal rights including access to vinerable women’s spaces. I’ve seen labour following suit, criticising Margaret Thatchers speech about homosexuality and likening it to the transgender movement, saying they won’t get it wrong. It’s not the same at all! What is going to happen to women in all this? It seems their rights will be pushed to one side and I’m actually rather worried. Can enough of us stand up to be heard?

I think the battle is ongoing, saying we have lost is about as useful as saying transwomen are women. I didn't say we had lost the war, but we have definitely lost a battle or 3. Or we wouldn't be getting the weird shit about calling men men!

I don't think I will see the swing of the pendulum and I despair for the young women who don't yet see that there is any conflict. All you 30 something TERFs will have a leading role in this one. Women my age will, of course, be there, but I really do think this is a much larger societal swing than we can yet see.

Mainly because of the obvious dilemma: of course it is OK to be 'gender fluid' - as in bouncing all over gender stereotypes - but how do we live with that when there is a determined cohort of loud and aggressive men trampling all over that acceptance to conflate sex and gender for their own gratification?

Can someone explain this thread to me? What did I miss?

Why are women going to stop going to shops and bars and spending money? Why are men going to struggle to find partners or people that will clean for them?

TERFclick · 04/03/2018 19:20

Men say they are women and are beginning to colonise. They say they are women when we ask for a woman to give smear tests. They are in mental health wards. They are in prisons, changing rooms at M&S, plahying sport against us, in tents with your daughters at guides/school trips, everywhere.

TERFclick · 04/03/2018 19:21

Women will stop going out as men wise up to the fact they can just say they are a woman and access our spaces and services.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 04/03/2018 19:21

We have to win because if we dont how can we get the statistics to prove men are more violent / offences against women have increased etc

I think self id may happen but with lots of exceptions - government cant plan resources if they dont know who needs them.

We need a negative lable we can use "at" pro self id politicians - sexist, child endangering, against free speech, cultist?!?!?

People are looking back at women's history and applying that information to the legal changes to women's status currently under consideration and some changes that have already happened.

qumquat · 04/03/2018 19:22

I'm terrified. I feel so powerless. I'm scared to admit my views irl as it might cost me my job, so I am just sitting by and letting it happen.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 19:23

They say they are women when we ask for a woman to give smear tests. Eh? I don't understand this.

How many men are doing this? I haven't seen it anywhere. It is just in the southeast?

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 19:24

I don't think many women will stop going out. I don't think most people even know about this, do they?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/03/2018 19:26

Sadly instances of men insisting they are legally women seem to be happening all over the world! There are many instances on threads here.

But it is not being remarked upon in any concerted, mainstream manner - other than to celebrate how wonderfully liberal some individual / institution is.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 19:27

Men say they are women and are beginning to colonise. This makes no sense either. Colonise where? Earth? They did that a long time ago.

TERFclick · 04/03/2018 19:28

They will stop going out when they realise you, your sister, Mother and your daughter can't escape men anywhere.

LangCleg · 04/03/2018 19:29

Also, sadly, I think that it is going to mean society swings much harder to the right.

I concur. Trump with bells on.

TERFclick · 04/03/2018 19:29

Anything woman related they are there, already pushing their way into leadership roles, making policy and guidelines to suit men that say they are women.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/03/2018 19:29

Namechanger men are doing a pretty good job of colonising political posts intended for women... for a start!

Truscum · 04/03/2018 19:30

Because as the word gets out that any man can get in to the women’s toilets, changing rooms, gyms etc. I believe the people who like to say NAMALT are going to rather quickly find out how depressingly many of them are ‘like that’.

They’ll start hearing about their friends daughter who couldn’t complain about the man wanking on the toilet next to her at the shopping centre or the girls who were raped by a group of six foot bearded ‘women’ in the swimming poll changing rooms.

That will slowly become a frequent reality for many.

Then women will generally stop going out to these places, they’ll stop suggesting their families go out for trips etc. where they’re ont be able to use the toilets.

Of course, women who have already suffered and have ptsd, or the women from certain faiths, will already have been forced out of using public services by that point.

Riverside2 · 04/03/2018 19:31

thebewilderness, I'm sorry if I'm being stupid but I don't understand either of your posts.

TERFclick "Single men will struggle to get anyone to come to the house and clean, care for their family members living elsewhere, they will struggle to find partners"

no, people will always have bills to pay, they will get cleaners and carers. The struggle to find W.I.F.E will be easier under this regime surely, not harder? Because all the TIM will be working hard to push women out of the workplace and back to being a uterus in high heels?

Wanderingwomb · 04/03/2018 19:31

I think shops and nightclubs are on the way out anyway due to Amazon etc, and councils redeveloping absolutely everything as flats. I also think this will destroy the left and mark a swing to the right. Agree with the post about the straight white men being OK whatever.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 19:32

But men were always in bars and shops. Do you mean changing rooms? Lots of people buy stuff, try it on at home and take it back if it doesn't fit anyway. Most changing rooms have cubicles with doors. I don't see Primark losing money any time soon, the queues are massive. And I've never seen a man dressed as a woman in there ever.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 19:33

I think it's only a tiny percentage of men that want to be pretend to be a woman. There are much, much bigger things to worry about than this.

TERFclick · 04/03/2018 19:34

What happens if you require the unisex loo whilst returning the unsuitable items?

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 19:35

Wanderingwomb - I don't know anyone that goes to nightclubs anymore either. The younger generations just get together on social media now, there's no point hanging around in town anymore.

TERFclick · 04/03/2018 19:35

Ok, if that's your belief, go forth and be happy.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 19:35

I'm guessing the toilet would have a door on it, no?
