Millwall cannot host the March event :-(

Just had an email from Venice Allan saying Millwall have had to pull out of hosting the event 'Transgenderism and the War on Women' due to threats from TRAs.

This is Millwall. They must have some of the best security around. It is dreadful news. We are being silenced.

She said the meeting will still go ahead but at another venue. I feel so sad and so angry.

I just saw this on Twitter and was coming on to say the same. FFS something needs to happen. We aren’t a hate group, we are concerned about the impact of potential legislation on established rights. There are no causes to shut us down.

I am beyond furious now.

SophoclesTheFox · 03/03/2018 12:09

I just got the email as well.

So very, very over this bullying and silencing.

What can we do?

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 03/03/2018 12:13

Milwall are apparently so scared of misogynistic Trans Rights Activists that they're giving in to the pressure to silence women Angry.

MNHQ have just shown themselves to be braver than Milwall FC.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 03/03/2018 12:16

Do they have any charitable projects associated with them which may have required a wooly policy about transphobia?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/03/2018 12:18

Seriously?! I kind of imagined it was wee hipster venues that would be more likely to be intimidated by TRAs. But Millwall Shock

Floisme · 03/03/2018 12:18

That's almost funny. I know it's also deeply worrying but this is possibly the club with the hardest reputation in football - and they're scared of a few TRAs.

JaimesGoldenHand · 03/03/2018 12:22

Do you know where I find tickets or details for this meeting please?

Wanderingwomb · 03/03/2018 12:25

I'd like this picked up by the news.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/03/2018 12:26

They are not scared. They just know whose side they are on.

AnotherTerfyNameChange · 03/03/2018 12:29

I said something about this on my other social media this morning and was told "see, that just shows how very important trans rights are and youve totally overestimated womens importance in this matter if even Millwall can see the light" AngryAngry

PositivelyPERF · 03/03/2018 12:29

They are not scared. They just know whose side they are on.
Exactly.

A place that mainly men attend listens to men in dresses shocker. 😒

MacaroonMama · 03/03/2018 12:32

Yes, I suppose they are not scared are they? It is ideology. They have been told how evil and wicked we all are and have decided to believe it.

That is true. Flowers @MN
But I'm gutted by this.

We have one year left of ECHR and Equalities Act protection to bring test cases to retain our Women's Rights and Right to Free Speech.

HairyBallTheorem · 03/03/2018 12:43

This is from a few days ago, before Milwall pulled out.

Pink Penis news coverage

LangCleg · 03/03/2018 12:51

This is getting more than worrying.

Even the suffragettes managed to have meetings.

SophoclesTheFox · 03/03/2018 12:52

Penis News is a disgrace.

Just last year the club had posted a statement on its website claiming it was committed to becoming a “safe and welcoming environment” for fans who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.

PinkNews asked Millwall how the decision to host the event aligned with this goal – but the club did not answer this query.

Seems to me the event would be aligned extremely well with providing a safe and welcoming environment for lesbians. Not that Penis News has the slightest interest in that part of their nominal demographic Hmm

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/03/2018 12:53

I did wonder why the venue had been announced so far in advance. Additionally, I've never been to Millwall for a match or anything else, but I live not that far away from the stadium and having walked nearby in daylight it's not a place I'd want to visit after dark with a bunch of aggressive, hyped up protestors looking for easy targets.

I hope they can find an alternative venue, and this time they'd be well advised to keep stum about it until the day, like the Women's Place meetings.

What the hell happened to the "no one likes us and we don't care" Millwall of old?

Floisme · 03/03/2018 12:58

'No-one likes us. We don't care.'

Floisme · 03/03/2018 12:58

Sorry cross post!

Xenophile · 03/03/2018 13:00

Never ceases to astound me how "the most oppressed group in the universe, ever" manages to silence any dissent in the exact same ways as other men and yet we are told to hold the idea that they are terribly oppressed as a reason why they "need" to tak over owmen's spaces and women's politics.

I'm not surprised by this. Doesn't stop me being disappointed that yet again, women have to shut up and move over for a bunch of blokes.

PositivelyPERF · 03/03/2018 13:01

Seems to me the event would be aligned extremely well with providing a safe and welcoming environment for lesbians I wonder what Millwall would do if a group of lesbians wanted to hold a meeting, to voice their concerns for the protection of lesbians and straight women? What if they wanted the same speakers?

whoputthecatout · 03/03/2018 13:03

I would have thought it is a case for a police investigation if TRAs are making threats.......

TERFclick · 03/03/2018 13:11

Has Venice contacted the police? As this is a political meeting, then isn't this classed as terrorism?
