Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Millwall cannot host the March event :-(

Just had an email from Venice Allan saying Millwall have had to pull out of hosting the event 'Transgenderism and the War on Women' due to threats from TRAs.

This is Millwall. They must have some of the best security around. It is dreadful news. We are being silenced.

She said the meeting will still go ahead but at another venue. I feel so sad and so angry.

A group of females wanting to have a discussion are more frightening than milwall fans on a bender ?

It’s being referred to online as a “hate rally” when it’s nothing of the sort.

This censorship is more than anything else making me want to be involved and surely will make people wonder what everyone is so afraid of if even the EDL can hold meetings and demos etc etc but a group of woman wanting a meeting isn’t ok ?

Surely if we were all transphobic bigots the best way to make us look bad would be to invite us to discuss.

People like EDL and the BNP have always humiliated themselves in public but attempting to put their views across so surely if we are as ridiculous as they think they won’t mind proving it ?

I must be getting old. No platforming is suck bollocks. If something is had speech it’s a matter for the police. Otherwise challenge, discuss and prove your points. Protest peacefully if you want.

But not this.

PositivelyPERF · 03/03/2018 14:47

That was not to you PositivelyPERV! 🤣

MacaroonMama · 03/03/2018 14:49

I am so sorry! So embarrassed! 😳😳😳

Don’t worry MacaroonMama, I thought it was hilarious. 🤣

Ok. Now I’ve calmed down, you do have a point about holding ourselves to a higher standard, though if other teams rip the arse out of Millwall supporters, it might make men ask a few more questions. They have maybe done us a favour as, when this goes around the clubs, it will ‘advertise’ how women’s rights are being undermined.

Yup. The organisers were pretty smart picking such a high profile venue, and publicising it beforehand...

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 03/03/2018 15:01

I mean what ...what could we possibly do in there that’s so awful ?

PositivelyPERF · 03/03/2018 15:02

It could be an own goal. 😋

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/03/2018 16:01

And this is why we need to stay squeaky clean...

It is a man in a costume wearing woman face. People realise that, they are too polite to say anything to someone in person. They are terrorists suppressing free speech.

HairyBallTheorem · 03/03/2018 16:44

Those screenshots make no sense! At one and the same time claiming rad fems want to "exterminate" trans people from the face of the earth (err, no of course rad fems don't want that, we just want to protect spaces for biological women), and at the same time saying "how can you even pretend to be a feminist when you show such absolute disdain for the historical context of abuse towards women in sport?" (I'd say "showing disdain towards women in sport" was pretty much encapsulated by letting 6'3" transwomen play Aussie rules footie/rugby/weightlifting against biological women).

These people have such an utterly cavalier attitude towards the truth and will tell any sort of lie about the position of their opponents that I don't think it would be possible to stay sufficiently "squeaky clean" - because even if you do stay squeaky clean, they will simply make shit up.

Having said that, I think the PR battle should centre round stuff people will relate to - maybe side-by-side pictures of the Lionesses or Milwall FC's own women's team, and the Saudi team with 8 obvious trans players on it, or a discussion of the age at which it's appropriate to allow people to medically transition, stressing the side effects and the irreversible sterilisation aspect.

SophoclesTheFox · 03/03/2018 16:51

Iranian, rather than Saudi football team, hairyball.

The Saudi's still won't let women play football at a national level, AFAIK (and not much below that, either). Even though FIFA changed the rules on hijab a few years back to allow them to save face and cave.

SmurfOrTerf · 03/03/2018 17:32

Hairy - I agree with you, I had to read it twice as it made no sense.
Ironically no transwoman would ever go to the women's toilets at Millwall. in fact they wouldn't have the balls to go there in a dress.
Hard fucking hard really.
At the London meeting apparently the so-called TRA's were just a few young women, all the transwomen stayed home

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 03/03/2018 17:33

Surely threats based on an ideology can be seen as terrorism? Especially because women are a protected group.

PositivelyPERF · 03/03/2018 17:40

Gosh, I've been tweeted. Feeling quite chuffed, as a middle aged widow. They really are frightened of us, aren't they? Otherwise they wouldn't have their little spies watching us, ready to jump on any 'evidence' to suit their agenda.

MacaroonMama · 03/03/2018 17:43

Oh no PositivelyPERF are you ok? That is horrible. I do have a Twitter account, have sent one tweet in my life, and am still trying to work out how to send another fecking one about this.

PositivelyPERF · 03/03/2018 17:51

Don't worry MacaroonMama. I'm a woman so I'm well used to men throwing insults. I am actually quite chuffed as I don't even have a Twitter account. 😆

Patodp · 03/03/2018 17:54

I've wondered this a lot myself.

I think there needs to be evidence, emails / recorded phone calls etc. Not sure how seriously Tweets are taken. There's been one case where 2 ppl were jailed for rape / death threats on Twitter, so it's not completely disregarded.

Could someone make a Freedom of Information request to Millwall - Someone from Women's Place - to find out what threats were made or what was said (as it was likely untrue) ?

Is this the sort of information the act covers?

swivelchair · 03/03/2018 17:56

Pretty clear who's using who when the only TIMs in attendance at the meeting were inside the hall speaking, rather than protesting out in the snow.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 03/03/2018 18:02

The talk wasn't organised by WPUK - it was/is Venice''s talk

Boxesandbuttons · 03/03/2018 18:30

This is definitely the line to take:

How about we all tweet Steve Kavanagh, the Millwall chief exec? About freedom of speech, and protecting women's rights? I will try and find his Twitter handle (am not on myself)

Datun · 03/03/2018 19:24

BOOKED TICKET.

Every single time they demand we shut up, they will increase support for women.

JaimesGoldenHand · 03/03/2018 19:31

Thanks Cunning, I can't make this one sadly. There in spirit.

nicentoasty · 03/03/2018 19:32

I'm pretty sure the Freedom of Information Act only applies to public organisations.

theaveragewife · 03/03/2018 20:35

I’m going to the women’s place meet on the 15th in Birmingham but now I absolutely want to go to this one too.
