Millwall cannot host the March event :-(

Just had an email from Venice Allan saying Millwall have had to pull out of hosting the event 'Transgenderism and the War on Women' due to threats from TRAs.

This is Millwall. They must have some of the best security around. It is dreadful news. We are being silenced.

She said the meeting will still go ahead but at another venue. I feel so sad and so angry.

Can they do this? Advertise a place to hire and then turn away a group? Isn't this akin to B&B owners who turned away gay couples?

Legally, can they discriminate if they offer the venue as a place to hire, and there are no prior bookings, and the fee is paid, and the gathering is legal (ie not a criminals' convention)?

Surely, them turning this meeting away is discriminatory. Can the GoFundMe lawyers find out?

OlennasWimple · 03/03/2018 22:56

Not a lawyer, but my understanding is that the Freedom of Information Act doesn't cover a private organisation, only public bodies.

And organisations can turn down bookings for a number of reasons, including concerns about the safety and security of the staff and premises if those concerns are well-founded

thebewilderness · 03/03/2018 22:57

I am sure they will say they are very sorry they violated the law by discriminating against women.

OlennasWimple · 03/03/2018 22:59

If I was on Twitter, I'd be looking at accounts like this one twitter.com/thisismillwall (a fan account) to tweet, as well as the official club one

Elletorro · 03/03/2018 23:19

a different approach

Perhaps there’s a story in this for the press. It sounds like millwall staff may have taken some abuse.

Maybe they would be willing to be interviewed anonymously and shine a light on the TRA tactics

AskBasil · 04/03/2018 11:13

But let's say a BME group wanted to meet; maybe an islamic group wanting to discuss how to resist ISIS activity in islamic communities; and they got threatened by a bunch of racists who wanted to come and demonstrate outside etc.

What would be the legal position if Millwall cancelled the booking? Could they be accused of race discrimination, or is it really enshrined in law, that violent men can with impunity get a meeting cancelled?

AskBasil · 04/03/2018 11:30

Oh and by the way, you better not say men in dresses Millwall consider that a hate crime and are wasting police time by reporting tweets using those words.

Can't find the tweet now but I saw it last night

OlennasWimple · 04/03/2018 11:52

I would reckon that, if they wanted an "out", they would cancel the booking citing security concerns

Yes, violent men shouting loudly get heard most often. Plus ca change

TERFclick · 04/03/2018 11:55

Millwall FC are contacting the police because someone tweeted they are fearful of a men in a dress?

OlennasWimple · 04/03/2018 12:00

Here are the booking T&Cs for the House of Commons www.parliament.uk/documents/commons-catering/standard-conditions-of-hire-v2.03.pdf

Note the cancellation section:

"24.1.5. the Event may, in the opinion of the HOC, damage or prejudice the reputation and/or good name of
Parliament, Members, or HOC.
24.2 The Director of Catering Services has the authority to accept, refuse or re-schedule bookings at any time.
Such authority will not be exercised unreasonably."

I think most venues have similar booking policies

Mumsnut · 04/03/2018 12:41

Booked

starts packing bags while phoning solicitor, before thought police come knocking I wonder if I’ll be arrested by the policeman that ‘sometimes’ identifies as a woman and if so, will I then be charged for misgendering him when I refuse to call him ‘her’?I’m past giving a shit if the police come knocking. They can only push this gender crap down someone’s throat so often, before the real victims (women) crack and stop facilitating the lies.

I refuse to be assimilated.

PERF

I'm with you. They are going to have to start building more women's prisons

PositivelyPERF · 04/03/2018 13:24

Thank you, AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth They’re going have to do that anyway, if self ID goes through. They’ll not have enough room once the perverts, rapists and various other men that claim to be women move in.

TitaniasCloset · 04/03/2018 16:29

How do I get a ticket for this? And when is it?

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 04/03/2018 17:33

14 March, Titania.

It's sold out though

LifelongVaginaOwner · 24/03/2018 11:17

Reviving this thread in light of this tweet from Millwall FC. I think it’s brilliant that awareness of prostate cancer is being raised. However I wonder whether anyone will be querying what Millwall mean by ‘men’.

OvaHere · 24/03/2018 11:19

Assuming only men have prostates seem very transphobic to me.

TheGoldenBough · 24/03/2018 11:24

Interesting. I too wonder whether anyone will point out that it is transexclusionary as, nowadays, not all men have prostates and not all people with prostates are men...

TheGoldenBough · 24/03/2018 11:24

Should be People with Prostates.
