Last week I decided to step down from my public roles to face up to mistakes I made several years ago while at Save the Children. I apologise to people I offended or upset at the time. My actions were never malicious but they were at times inappropriate.
I take responsibility for my actions and will hold myself to a higher standard in the future.

Oh my word. I read his book about Jo and had admired his "family first" attitude and relaxed riverboating lifestyle. Poor Jo and her children 👶

He didnt actually have to do anything to bask in Jo Cox's glory for the rest of his days. Just not be a complete knob, and he couldn't even manage that.

It makes me wonder how much she achieved despite him, and how much more she could have gone on to do.

I've just read this. My thoughts are with Jo's parents, sister, friends. They must be so upset, he is the only parent those kids have now and a public fall from grace is just going to make all their lives harder.

Added to which Brendan Cox clearly doesn't yet fully accept the impact of his behaviour which disturbs me in terms of the behaviour he is modelling for the kids. This is awful. I had hoped it was all rumour, was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt but clearly there are grounds for all of it. He's really screwed things up for all of them. How very depressing.

I'm glad he's resigned but I found his wording odd - is he going to continue in a private role?
He should never have got involved with the charities in the first place. But I suppose the sort of man who is forced to leave his job for harassing staff isn't the sort to be principled when it comes to protecting his wife's legacy.

So dismayed about this. And I thought he seemed nice :(

One thing that is really annoying me is that he’s saying it was inappropriate but he didn’t mean to upset anyone. Why isn’t he acknowledging that he was also married and that in itself would have upset his fucking wife! I know it’s not the main / potentially incriminating issue, but he’s acting as if it was fine to be coming on to other women as long as it was all well intentioned. Angry

I hope she wasn’t suffering in her marriage over this stuff.

Disgusting. So, it was 'not malicious'? Oh well, that's perfectly okay then. I think that's a standard sex-pest response, isn't it? I was just having a bit of fun- don't take it so seriously, you miserable cow. He honestly makes my skin crawl.

Oh and committing to holding himself to a higher standard of behaviour- that standard is not 'high', it's the bare minimum for being a decent human being.

My bet is that this will have circa zilch impact on his earning power and dating life. But yeah, allegations ruin lives.

‘Several years ago’? Didn’t one of the reported incidents occur just a year before Jo was killed? He seems to make a lot of excuses - alcohol, not intentionally malicious etc etc

Viviennemary it's not a game of Top Trumps (pun intended) sexual assault. You should be angry about both individuals no matter what side of the political spectrum you are on. (Trump is on tape admitting to sexual assault after all).
