I've had it with Lush

Sick of their virtue signalling. I've always admired their eco efforts and animal welfare stuff as there was an obvious connection but over the years they've got increasing more irritating and seem to be jumping on any topic which seems trendy.

I want to buy soap. Not subscribe to their politics. This for me was the last straw.

Ok, Lush UK support Mermaids which equates to endorsing homophobia & child abuse. So glad I found that out before giving them any of my money.

OldmanOfTheWeb · 18/02/2018 12:47

loopsdefruit. It may seem silly to you. Obviously there are many here it doesn't.

Between Lush:
· Supporting political causes we don't like.
· Exploiting its workers sexuality.
· Having to almost physically drag its assistants to serve me (okay, that one's from me)

It's pretty normal to drop it. I used to buy massage bars from there. It's easy enough for me to find alternatives elsewhere. And this thread is helping others do so for things they used to buy from Lush.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 18/02/2018 12:58

I've ordered soap & shampoo bars from www.wild-sage.co.uk/. Really looking forward to getting them & trying them out.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/02/2018 13:07

Empress - are they animal free products and also SLS free? They look amazing!

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 18/02/2018 13:12

Yet Vegan & palm oil free, which is what I was looking for. I don't know for definite about SLS free but I'd guess so. And I'd much rather support a small business.

Writersblock2 · 18/02/2018 13:29

Thanks for the recs, everything looks amazing!
I’ve just found these guys too (don’t know about being palm free or not):
soulandsoap.co.uk

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/02/2018 13:38

Thanks Empress. I do need SLS free because of my skin, but I have to say their products looked amazing!

ButteredScone · 18/02/2018 17:51

OMG, the arrogance of a shop that lectures its individual customers on politics even as they are trying to by its products.

Mind blown. Wallet shut.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 18/02/2018 17:56

Maybe tweet them & ask, Yet?

Absolutely gutted to hear that Lush are supporting Mermaids who are dodgy af, and using nonsense, anti-women words like 'cisgender'. What a naive, bandwagon jumping, virtue signalling load of bollocks. Will be shopping elsewhere, unless this pull this campaign in the UK

mrsreynolds · 18/02/2018 18:45

I'm gutted
Truly
But I shall never darken their doorway again
I've used bomb cosmetics stuff in the past...its often on offer on Amazon
Iirc it's owned by mark Constantines old cosmetics to go partner?
I'm going to use up the lush stuff I have and then check out neals yard for skincare
No idea where I can find a substitute for daddy-o shampoo

Nickynackynoodle · 18/02/2018 18:46

Ugh. How tedious. Tbf, I’ve boycotted lush for ages for a few reasons but I do miss their solid shampoo in a tin. Some great links here for shampoo but I need a tin!! Any ideas?

I'd been wondering whether it was worth getting a couple of those, Juzza, so thank you!

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 18/02/2018 19:05

God. Lush really do treat women like shit.

differenteverytime · 18/02/2018 19:21

Well, that's the end of Lush as far as I'm concerned.

OlennasWimple · 18/02/2018 20:37

The only good thing to come out of this is that the Lush Twitter feed has been pleasingly full of people saying WTF. I think even a month or two ago there wouldn't have been so much critical comment. (And fair play to them for engaging to some extent with the comments, and not just blocking tweeters who they don't agree with...)

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 19/02/2018 16:46

I thought Lushs slogan was love your body, or something like that. Supporting transing kids (they have said they support mermaids ffs) is the opposite of 'love your body' IMO.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 19/02/2018 17:06

The only good thing to come out of this is that the Lush Twitter feed has been pleasingly full of people saying WTF.

Hopefully it will also benefit some small businesses.

Blutacismynemesis · 21/02/2018 23:02

Argh. Not sure how I can manage without Godiva shampoo bars, I'm not sure anywhere else does anything similar? (They are the 2-in-1 conditioning ones which actually do give me the same effect as shampoo and conditioner in one, and also smell divine). And I love a lot of their other stuff too. But a) I will not be ciss-ed lightly and b) if they are promoting Mermaids I am definitely not a happy bunny, so think I'll have to start hunting for an alternative Sad

Ouchbirthhurted · 22/02/2018 00:05

I know Blu I loved their stuff. I have one bomb and some snow fairy left so am eking it out.

Who are Lush's competitors?

Hulo · 22/02/2018 00:09

A lot of the time I can't afford Lush so it's actually quite nice that I needn't bother anymore

MyBeloved · 22/02/2018 00:24

Bought some gorgeous frankincense moisturiser from Neals Yard. Much nicer than Lush and no lectures or sexploitation either!

Writersblock2 · 22/02/2018 00:26

I’ve got a whole heap of Lush leftover from Christmas to keep me going but mostly bombs, not essentials. Having fun searching for alternatives though, I must say.
