I've had it with Lush

Sick of their virtue signalling. I've always admired their eco efforts and animal welfare stuff as there was an obvious connection but over the years they've got increasing more irritating and seem to be jumping on any topic which seems trendy.

I want to buy soap. Not subscribe to their politics. This for me was the last straw.

To be fair I know the campaign manager for lush UK is v gender critical and has been supporting and promoting a women's place.

VaguelyAware · 17/02/2018 16:35

EveryoneMatters - sorry, I just read my previous comment back & I realised it could possibly be interpreted as a personal attack on you, regarding your user name. Genuinely not intended that way. FlowersBlush

That Morningside blog - as I mentioned upthread, it's a real eye opener. Loads of stuff on there about how Lush operate.

Lovesagin · 17/02/2018 16:40

Wow, lush is very sexist and abusive to women. I had no idea. Something really not sitting right about that student stunt, the way the 'doctor' is handling her and looking so impassive.......definitely won't ever shop there again and I know my colleagues won't either.

CisMyArse · 17/02/2018 16:49

To be fair to Lush, it is a complex issue they are probably not aware of.

It was their responsibility to research this issue before making such a public stand.

Fools.

I love their twilight / sleepy stuff.

Won't go there again.

Jon66 · 17/02/2018 16:50

Fabulous, I will start using them. Thanks for the heads up.

OvaHere · 17/02/2018 16:53

They are doing it for the same cynical reasons as the Labour Party. Marketing to the youth money. It could backfire though as the tween market is very much bankrolled by parents like me.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/02/2018 16:53

It's the way the TRAs work - they get high profile businesses / politicians etc to endorse the campaign by punting a simplistic fluffy version of what they stand for - TRAs are relying on getting profile up / support up / legislation passed before anyone actually gets a chance to think about what it means.

The aforesaid businesses and politicians just don't have the time or the resources to do due diligence, if someone sends them a pretty press release with pictures of photogenic teenagers with a 45% suicide rate then they will be on board.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/02/2018 16:55

And thanks for the Neal's Yard recommendation - I'm on their website now Smile

hipsterfun · 17/02/2018 16:56

A mugshot of Big Dan Muscato won’t cut it on a press release, that’s for sure.

OneOfTheGrundys · 17/02/2018 16:57

Neals Yard and Aesop are much better. Aesop is pricey but worth it.

expatinscotland · 17/02/2018 17:00

I've always wondered why we all have to 'be fair' to businesses and companies that aren't. Fuck that!

mrsreynolds · 17/02/2018 17:04

I'll be giving my money to neals yard in future...

Writersblock2 · 17/02/2018 17:17

Tbh, this will save me a fortune. Which I can spend on shoes! Ahhh, thanks, Lush!

AdultHumanFemale · 17/02/2018 17:37

Wow! What a ridiculous tangent.
I can't use Lush products as they are so heavily fragranced anyway, they make me sneeze and give me a wild headache, as does lots of soapy / cleansy / moisturisy stuff.
And seriously impressed at people spending mega bucks on the products of a single company; I spend next to nothing on beauty and personal hygiene products over the course of a year (very little incentive as I can't use much of it, but obvs buy naturally or non-fragranced basics), so am wondering if I am missing out!

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 17/02/2018 17:40

Oh bloody hell I love Lush and spend loads in there but I certainly won't be after this shit. Oh well. It's their loss.

misscockerspaniel · 17/02/2018 17:43

Thanks Op for this thread. I have been buying Lush products since they were known as Cosmetic-To-Go. They can cis-off. I will take my money elsewhere.

TERFousBreakdown · 17/02/2018 18:45

Brilliant!

I can finally return to using actually well-made cosmetics without having to have an internal ethics debate with myself, then!

Moisturiser that doesn't go off after a few weeks, here I come!

IndominusRex · 17/02/2018 18:48

They've also got bad form for making their young female employees strip off.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 17/02/2018 18:50

I started boycotting Lush years ago when they ran a publicity stunt where a woman was shown looking like a corpse on a trash heap. It was meant to be some kind of protest against animal testing, but I just thought it was shockingly distasteful.

thornyhousewife · 17/02/2018 18:53

I was waiting for LUSH to do this.

I worked for them for years - run by a family of the most embarrassing champagne socialists you'll ever meet.

It's honestly like a cult - there is no room for political discussion whatsoever, only fulfilling the wishes of the Dear Leader..

TERFousBreakdown · 17/02/2018 18:57

@thornyhousewife, I know next to nothing about them (apart from the lentil-weaver-but-cool image they're trying to project). Can you say more?

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 17/02/2018 18:58

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/apr/27/lush-animal-cruelty-performance-art

This was the thing I was thinking of. This article is in support though. I remember I was absolutely appalled at the time.

QuilliamCakespeare · 17/02/2018 19:03

Don't you fucking 'CIS' me Angry

fishdogpancakes · 17/02/2018 19:03

Neals Yard products are lovely. Expensive but worth it.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 17/02/2018 19:09

I had just filled a basket on their website and was going to spend quite a bit...not anymore!! CRUSH LUSH!!😡😡😡
