I've had it with Lush

Sick of their virtue signalling. I've always admired their eco efforts and animal welfare stuff as there was an obvious connection but over the years they've got increasing more irritating and seem to be jumping on any topic which seems trendy.

I want to buy soap. Not subscribe to their politics. This for me was the last straw.

'Am a therapist and use Neals Yard in my facials - Starflower range is second to none for skin that reacts to everything.'

Really? Literally EVERYTHING breaks me out, it's why I never have facials. Can't even use a cleanser at all, they ALL give me spots (I can't use makeup at all, it all gives me spots). I'd love to find something for anti-ageing or to brighten up my skin, but so far no joy.

expatinscotland · 17/02/2018 13:59

I don't bother with Lush because their shop is many miles from us and their delivery charges are a joke.

But DD liked their snowfairy powder.

CAn anyone suggest a good substitute (it's not talc, FWIW)?

WrenNatsworthy · 17/02/2018 14:03

Give it a go Expat My friend who used to use Dermalogica switched on my recommendation.
(Apologies for turning this thread into Style and Beauty!).
Lush have become more and more irritating as a brand, think this sticks the nail in.

expatinscotland · 17/02/2018 14:34

Thanks!

DD really likes the powder, but Lush also jacked up the price (before spouting all this trans nonsense).

Everyonematters · 17/02/2018 14:41

I buy loads of Lush. Have converted my family and we all exchange massive Lush boxes at Christmas. I want all trans people to feel safe and happy. I want women to feel and be safe and be able to continue to tackle sex based discrimination.

To be fair to Lush, it is a complex issue they are probably not aware of. Am sure once they have a look at the issues they will make sure they are supporting women's rights as well as trans rights.

I bloody hope so, because if not we will have to totally rethink Christmas gifting and I loooooove Lush stuff.

Bigyellowsunmoon · 17/02/2018 14:50

Looks to be a twitter thread on this if anyone wants to explain to Lush why women's rights are also important and that supporting and protecting women doesn't mean you anti trans people's rights mobile.twitter.com/LushLtd/status/964843179295100929

MaureenNervosa · 17/02/2018 15:12

They really haven’t thought this through. Wish I had seen this thread before posting on the other thread about favourite Lush products.

VaguelyAware · 17/02/2018 15:12

Absolutely. Like Jeremy Corbyn. And Target USA. And women's prisons in Canada & various other countries, where some women are actually being told to use LARCs because of the probability of being raped while they are serving their sentences. (But still have to pay for them, & sanitary protection, on a daily wage of less than 20p in some cases...)
Because of course no-one has actually mentioned to any of those organisations that biological women require sex protected spaces because... biology.

jeaux90 · 17/02/2018 15:19

It gets worse, they have also aligned themselves with Mermaids according to tweets from them I just saw an hour ago.

VaguelyAware · 17/02/2018 15:27

In addition, EveryoneMatters (love the irony of your name, BTW), Lush have demonstrated for a number of years that their staff, especially the female staff, do not matter. The female staff working during the "Cruelty Free Kisses" campaign were not allowed to opt out. Unless they were overweight - as the t-shirts supplied were only in small sizes. One staff member who didn't want to take part was told by her manager that they were "massively disappointed" that she was "not a team player". No pressure, then...

I spend £100s in lush each year.
No more

Everyonematters · 17/02/2018 15:33

Vaguely I also suspect Jeremy Corbyn knows. Or if not he bloody well should do given he's leading the surge to pass it as law.

Lush though (outside of any internal TRAs who may well be aware or not care) I can definitely believe may have missed it. I had no idea not long ago. On the face of it self-Id for trans people sounds perfectly reasonable - and utterly irrelevant to non trans women. Which is how it has got so far.

This is why I think it is worth explaining calmly and rationally to people like Lush who may not get it yet. Once you see it, it's really obvious and you can't unsee it. But to start with it's easy to assume anything negative about trans is transphobia. That's what I would have thought not long ago.

Everyonematters · 17/02/2018 15:35

That however is horrid if true - I had no idea.

Writersblock2 · 17/02/2018 15:44

They are certainly starting to pay attention on Twitter. If you all can, I suggest commenting and retweeting on there. They’re a business. Money talks.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/02/2018 15:44

I have used Lush since they were Cosmetics to Go, so that's from about 1985 until now.

But I have become less and less enamoured of the 'new' company that emerged from the ashes. I think this may well be the last straw. Pity, there are many products that I will find hard to replace!

mrsreynolds · 17/02/2018 15:50

Me too curious

MimbleCat · 17/02/2018 16:10

www.lushusa.com/transrights.html will tell you all

pepperminttaste · 17/02/2018 16:20

Oh no! I have just started using their shampoo bars. Ah well. Back to the plastic-free drawing board with that one!

Writersblock2 · 17/02/2018 16:22

Omg Mimble that kink! They’ve drank the bloody koolaid! Ffs Lush!!!! I thought you had sense.

Link. Link. Bloody hell.

expatinscotland · 17/02/2018 16:24

Who the fuck demands their employees allow randoms to kiss/assault them?

The Lush North America twitter page is just....Hmm

My identity is not a trend - really why do you need bins full of pronoun badges then? If everyone could recognise your made up identity on sight you wouldn't need a badge!

UpstartCrow · 17/02/2018 16:33

Lush made women go to work naked. Thats when I stopped buying from them.
