Can you be a feminist and be completely accepting of transgender individuals?

It seems to be a thing that the majority of feminists on here are against transgender people. I'm just curious if you can be a feminist and completely accept transgender individuals.

@AngryAttackKittens are you purposely playing stupid? Accepted by the person he asked. They said he could. It made him happy to feel accepted.

I think that was for himself, that he is accepted as a woman. IMO.

Exactly, it's all about validation as he could just use any toilet, and it's pathetic because everyone knows they're men. We're all playing nice and saying yes those are lovely robes, you're defintely not naked.

MrGHardy · 14/02/2018 23:51

"I suppose a guy wearing a dress and make up could be harassed in a male toilet?"

  1. So instead, women have to feel uncomfortable?
  2. There is a feminine presenting man on twitter, @hopepinkboots, he regularly posts stories of him out and about, in men's bathrooms etc. He can do it. The others just don't want to.
  3. Then it's up to men to sort it out. The solution to men harassing TW is not to encroach on women's space, but for men to behave.
MagicSweets · 14/02/2018 23:51

@Valentinesfart - is it? I thought it was about equality for both sexes?

OP posts:
AngryAttackKittens · 14/02/2018 23:53

Well, there may well be someone in this thread who's a bit dim but I'm fairly sure it isn't me.

Using shop workers for affirmation isn't particularly admirable behavior, but who cares about class issues when a man's feelings are at stake?

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 14/02/2018 23:53

And yes, the answer to male violence in male spaces is not to llow males who could be violent into female space. That helps noone and infact just makes female people unsafe.

Male violence needs to be tackled. Men need to be told they cannot abuse gender non-conforming men. Though it does not seem they actually do..I follow a guy on twitter who purposely goes into male only areas when dressed 'as a woman' and nothing has ever happened to him, so I am not sure I quite believe male loos are this hotbed of violence that trans-identified-males need to escape (by bringing penises into women only areas)

Valentinesfart · 14/02/2018 23:54

Feminism is about women. Otherwise it would be about WOMEN fixing shit for the other half of the world.

Valentinesfart · 14/02/2018 23:56

The same men who want this validation could be fighting for recognition of a third gender. third gender prisons, domestic violence shelters, locker rooms toilets etc

They don't want that, they want their delusions validated

thebewilderness · 14/02/2018 23:56

Equal access to women in various states of undress? Srsly?
Your slip is showing.

MagicSweets · 15/02/2018 00:01

Can you genuinely not see why a 3rd option may not be particularly nice? They feel female, they can't be with the females. Please, just think of the genuine cases. I'm not talking about the ones who are doing it to prove a point or hurt people, but the genuine ones (which make up the majority).

OP posts:
MagicSweets · 15/02/2018 00:02

Also I'm not saying the stats are anywhere close, but there are females who are causing risk and harm to male children. Maybe they want to use those toilets to access them? Why do people on here also always think women don't sexually assault or are child abusers?

OP posts:
PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 15/02/2018 00:03

They feel female

What does this even mean?

But no, not all transwomen 'feel' female.

Myunicornfliessideways · 15/02/2018 00:03

Jazz Jennings had gender dysphoria from an early age. 60-80% of young children with early presenting dysphoria grow out of it and settle into being gender non conforming gay men or lesbians. The children who go on experiencing gender dysphoria into adulthood are the population who still tend to name themselves transsexual rather than transgender. There is no knowing if Jazz would have grown into a secure gay teenager with watchful waiting and support since they have been chemically castrated and now will never have a sexual orientation or a sex drive of any kind. As TruScum says, that's child abuse.

Jazz is and always will be biologically male, but would easily meet criteria for a GRC in the U.K and be legally recognised as a woman. A bit different to any random adult male who has never had gender dysphoria having access to any woman and girls space at any time he felt like it under self ID.

thebewilderness · 15/02/2018 00:03

Nice? Are you effing kidding me. They rape torture and abuse us but you want to talk about trans identified males being inconvenience not being nice?

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 15/02/2018 00:03

By genuine ones, do you mean 'transsexuals'?

I am guessing from your posts, you are against self-ID?

And a third option may not be nice, but its clearly necessary as there is not any way to tell the nice genuine people from those with dubious intenions. After all, areas are split by sex, not gender.

MrGHardy · 15/02/2018 00:04

"Dh said he'd feel uncomfortable going for a shit with a woman in the toilets."

I feel uncomfortable in public toilet, period. But as you say, I don't particularly feel threatened. For me that is why there is no issue as of now for "men vs trans men". Because we are just not threatened by them.

Also just out of curiosity, do trans men really look that feminine? All the photos I have seen, are of ones that look rather masculine, maybe just a little feminine but still like men to me. Many of them grow beards and put on muscle to some extent. Of course it may just be that the ones presented in photos are carefully chosen. But generally I thought it seems easier to start appearing masculine than feminine. E.g. female bodybuilders that get jack on roids or what not. Rather masculine.

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 15/02/2018 00:04

Maybe they want to use those toilets to access them?

Then that's even more reason to keep these places segregated by sex.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 15/02/2018 00:04

Why do people on here also always think women don't sexually assault or are child abusers?

Another straw man tbh, Noone on here thinks women never do it. But women rarely do it as male people commit 98% of sexual violence.

Next up...but lesbians!

MagicSweets · 15/02/2018 00:04

I suppose feeling female is a strong desire to follow those stereotypes.

I think you'd be lying that if you woke up tomorrow a man, you wouldn't continue wearing the same clothes you do now, styling your hair the same, etc. I know I wouldn't.

I suppose it's a strong desire, to the point of distress...

OP posts:
thebewilderness · 15/02/2018 00:05

It is obvious by now MagicSweets that you are trolling. I have noting more to say to you except EDUCATE YOURSELF!
heh

MagicSweets · 15/02/2018 00:06

@TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole I always think it's quite a dangerous thought process. I bet many boys feel like they can't come forward to talk of sexual abuse from females.

OP posts:
MagicSweets · 15/02/2018 00:06

I'm not trolling but ok.

OP posts:
AngryAttackKittens · 15/02/2018 00:07

I'm female and do not feel this strong desire to follow stereotypes that you describe. Am I a man?

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 15/02/2018 00:08

I bet many boys feel like they can't come forward to talk of sexual abuse from females.

This is not a situation that is unique to boys.

And before you say it, no it is not 'worse' for boys when they're abused.

thebewilderness · 15/02/2018 00:08

Also too and besides Jazz Jennings is a victim of Munchausen by proxy and the inhumanity of television producers.
