I’ve learned that there are some brilliant, learned and compassionate people out there, who come at this from all angles. One (purely anecdotal) observation is that the diversity of opinions within the trans-gender population is not remotely reflected in the bit of this conversation most visible at Westminster. The trans community’s opinions are not as homogenous as some reporting and discussion suggest. So here’s a tip for hacks covering this: don’t just book Paris Lees or talk about Lilly Madigan. Ask Kristina Harrison what she thinks. Or Tara Hewitt. Or lots of other people. The same goes for the ‘radical’ feminist side of this: there’s more to it than Germaine Greer. (Though for some media outlets that really should know better, having any voice from that side of the conversation at all would be an improvement.)

I do wonder what Jeremy makes of all of this. He is between a rck and a hard place realy, but surely he must see that he has to be on womens side here. It possible to grant trans people more rights, but they should not be able to take womens rights

I wonder if we could find an eldest daughter of an aristocrat who'd be prepared to self-identify and bring a test case? Might need to be someone who didn't get on with her brother...

Lord Balfour has already thought of this, he has four daughters!

The problem is with someone like Jeremy he wants to be everyone’s friend on the far left. He’s like the cool dad trying to be hip with the teenagers, rather than looking at the long term damage he’s looking at short term political gain.

McDonnell is the one to worry about. He is a self-confirmed Marxist (he has been filmed more than once publically affirming his allegiance to Marxism). Marx's vision was a socialist 'utopia' but wrote that 'a bloody revolution would occur before it was achievable). What he meant was this: That in making all property the ownership of the state, ownership would have to be removed from the private owners. He recognised private owners would not willingly give up their possessions - hence a bloody revolution. These days, a bloody revolution isn't so necessary. All McDonnell has to do is raise interest rates and taxes to squeeze the life out of (property owners), cause widespread repossessions and of course, crash the market... leading the way for state intervention and control. I truly believe we are walking our children blindfold into pseudo-communism.. with all the political correctness and trial-by-media.. etc. This particular Labour party era will crash our economy because by doing so, they will be able to kick-start their ideology.. and if you value your freedoms, you won't give them the chance. (Sorry to be so negative but please read McDonnell's history and please read Marx)
