Jeremy Corbyn has a new enemy - Mumsnet

I’ve learned that there are some brilliant, learned and compassionate people out there, who come at this from all angles. One (purely anecdotal) observation is that the diversity of opinions within the trans-gender population is not remotely reflected in the bit of this conversation most visible at Westminster. The trans community’s opinions are not as homogenous as some reporting and discussion suggest. So here’s a tip for hacks covering this: don’t just book Paris Lees or talk about Lilly Madigan. Ask Kristina Harrison what she thinks. Or Tara Hewitt. Or lots of other people. The same goes for the ‘radical’ feminist side of this: there’s more to it than Germaine Greer. (Though for some media outlets that really should know better, having any voice from that side of the conversation at all would be an improvement.)

Owen Jones just defaults to his thought terminating cliche that "transwomen are women" so problem solved for women's organising without men.

Together we can.

Has anyone asked him if transmen are men?

And then have they asked him why transmen are denied the inheriting rights of 'cis'/'natal' men?

Valentinesfart · 12/02/2018 17:03

Has anyone asked him if transmen are men?

They asked if he would have sex with a transman. That did not go well.

TheGoldenBough · 12/02/2018 17:05

Is he gay then?

What did he say?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 12/02/2018 17:05

Why can't anyone else see that these are violent, dangerous men?

They surely can. If women started getting this uppity we'd be told where to stick it in no short order. The airtime and general pandering being accorded to these people demonstrates decisively that everyone thinks they are men. And convincingly masculine ones at that.

Valentinesfart · 12/02/2018 17:06

I didn't see the conversation but I believe he said he "was being erased as a gay man". Someone who was there for it will probably pop along soon though

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/02/2018 17:07

Together we can.

What?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 12/02/2018 17:07

He said the suggestion was disgusting and that conversion therapy was not ok if I recall correctly

TheRagingGirl · 12/02/2018 17:09

And yet if an aristocratic woman changes gender to male she still can’t inherit a title or land. Why aren’t the trans activists fighting this?

It's only women, innit? Who cares about them

I think these are the questions that need to be asked.

If TWaW, would you, as a straight man, have sex with one? No? But they're women? But that's a ladydick? But women have to regard them as women...

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 12/02/2018 17:11

I mean, for the avoidance of doubt, I completely agree with him. I just think the same applies to the cotton ceiling.

TheGoldenBough · 12/02/2018 17:12

"was being erased as a gay man"

Wow.

Well women don't want to be erased either!

boatyardblues · 12/02/2018 17:13

No records kept of who updated their gender and when.

^ From p2. AKA sex offenders’ “vanishing” clause. Forget meaningful DBS checks!

Horridemma · 12/02/2018 17:21

So has Lily Madigan said anything nice and supportive about the female sex recently? Or is she just shouting us all down as transphobic? So much for being the women's officer - nasty cow

YTho · 12/02/2018 17:21

This should make the government happy, anything to distract us from their failings.

SauceForTheGander · 12/02/2018 17:23

Corbyn and his merry band of brocialists have lost my vote. Over Brexit and over self ID. I'm politically homeless now though. Maybe we need a Mumsnet candidate. Grin

ContemporaryPankhurst · 12/02/2018 17:24

I may frame this article it is fabulous.
Woe betide the politician that pisses off mumsnet!
Some of my favourite bits:
'This, for now, is the hottest political flashpoint in the gender debate. And if you read Mumsnet, it could be the spark that ignites a full-blown political firestorm, where women abandon Labour in droves. Mumsnetters are girding for war '

'some Mumsnetters scent blood.'

'In short, all the necessary components are in place for a real political grudge-match, the sort of no-holds-barred ultimate fighting cage-match that aficionados of political combat will tell their grandchildren about'.

rememberthetime · 12/02/2018 17:29

On a brighter note - not all kids of this age agree with all this.

My 18 year old son who has just started university told me that he thought that men trying to be better women than women is entirely wrong.

he is naturally sceptical and I'm so proud... Yet he is caring, inclusive and open to all sexualities. How is it he gets it and his friends don't?

Horridemma · 12/02/2018 17:35

@YTho - all politicians have failings.

Should I forgive JC?

He doesn't want me and the rest of the female middle aged Ford Focus drivers any more.

I voted for him and I feel let down. What about my rights? He needs to remind himself who are the regular voters at every council and general election. It is people like me - without fail every time #sexnotgender

makeourfuture · 12/02/2018 17:39

What?

Anything.

Together we can make policy.

Apart we stand outside and wave signs in the drizzle.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/02/2018 17:42

So we shouldn’t wave the plackards and keep worshiping?

TheXXFactor · 12/02/2018 17:42

There are organisations dedicated to legal support (and other active lobbying) for trans people and advancing their rights. Quite fairly, that's their concern. But there is no one actively doing this for biological women where trans interests may differ from theirs. And when women's orgs, including women's rights orgs, are told they have to be trans inclusive - both to gain funding and to avoid being called 'transphobic' - they aren't able to freely represent the rights of biological women

Exactly right. Every organisation that you might expect to support biological women has been forced to be trans inclusive - usually because they receive public money in some form. Thank god for WPUK.

YTho · 12/02/2018 17:47

Fwiw, I think self id is a big problem but so is growing child poverty, lack of social housing, growing homelessness etc. There are a lot of women who are already being disadvantaged and thrown under the bus by constant cuts. I think it is important to consider that when thinking about who to vote for in the next election.
