The Federalist and New Yorker articles are good. Very good.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 04/02/2018 11:44

Do you have a link CAAKE ?

Elendon · 04/02/2018 12:02

www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/harvey-weinsteins-army-of-spies

Here's the new yorker one. Written by Ronan Farrow.

Elendon · 04/02/2018 12:05

New Yorker is considered in the USA to have a left wing bias. The Federalist is right wing.

CAAKE · 04/02/2018 12:36

See Assigned's post upthread for the Federalist link.

NauticalDisaster · 04/02/2018 12:36

Here is a vomit inducing twitter thread about the man who attacked Rose McGowan:
mobile.twitter.com/mermaidradfem/status/959874205209776128

I had read about the accusations of sexual assaults in which he was implicated and the above thread shows some of his social media imprint into fetishism, especially of child sexual abuse and race.

CAAKE · 04/02/2018 12:37

Yes, this has me particularly incensed Sophocles. The good news is that it's so high profile that it will be opening some eyes and starting conversations.

NotWithABang · 04/02/2018 12:38

Nautical I just came here to post that. I can't fucking believe the people defending him and calling the twitter user who posted that 'scum' - someone also said they're going to report her for harassment! FFS! Completely overlooking it. But let's all feel sorry for the poor paedophilic perverted disgusting piece of shit of a man. Hmm
I am so angry. So, so angry.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 04/02/2018 12:41

Thank you Elendon

Elendon · 04/02/2018 12:48

My own view is that the New Yorker article linked is a very well researched investigative piece of journalism. It's just excellent. The Federalist link is an opinion piece article, valuable none the less.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 04/02/2018 12:50

Have just finished reading the New Yorker article. Holy fucking crap!

There really are no lengths that these sorry excuses for human beings won't go to to keep hold of power are there?

Shocking, but not surprising 😠

NauticalDisaster · 04/02/2018 12:58

I keep falling down twitter rabbit holes, reading comments on posts, following links to other profiles and it just makes everything seem so much worse. It seems like the death of critical thinking. We are not allowed to question or think or object. It is madness.

HairyBallTheorem · 04/02/2018 13:25

That New Yorker article is extraordinary.

For those who don't have time to read, Weinstein hired a PI/ industrial espionage firm whose operatives pretended to be women's rights/civil liberties activists (even going to the lengths of creating a website and fictitious London address for their offices) in order to contact Weinstein's victims and others associated with the case to try to get out of them how much they knew and what they were likely to say (and presumably also to try to collect snippets of information in order to discredit them).

I suspect that the claim (on this thread not in the NY article) that Dyer was in Weinstein's pay is a bit too far fetched; however I wouldn't be surprised if some third party (possibly the sort of agency mentioned in the article) knew he could be used as a "useful idiot", wound him up and let him go. After all this sort of person wouldn't be that hard to manipulate - a few well timed tweets from a supposed ally suggesting he crash the event and "put his side of things" and Bob's your uncle (or possibly your auntie - who can tell these days?)

Elendon · 04/02/2018 13:43

I don't honestly believe that Weinstein would be involved with someone like Dyer. Dyer is an opportunist and a predator. A male and a sexual predator.

SophoclesTheFox · 04/02/2018 13:57

That New Yorker article has my eyes out on stalks.

Poor, poor, Rose. That makes what this despicable wanker Dyer has done so much worse. Does Dyer have the slightest, tiniest inkling of what she's been though? No. Nor does he give a shit, going by this tirade of self pity

Where is his compassion for Rose? Nowhere, that's where. It never is. These types don't give a shit about women. They hate us. It's horrifying. It breaks my heart that in that video, Rose is trying to be appeasing, calling Dyer sister - and then you can almost see the realisation dawn on her that it will never, ever be enough. God, she looked like she needed a hug. I hope she has good people round her Sad

athingthateveryoneneeds · 04/02/2018 14:22

Wow. How utterly appalling and yet completely unsurprising.

Although it would make a tidy ending to the story if HW was somehow involved in getting AD to go after RM, I don't think someone like AD really needs much of an incentive to publicly humiliate a woman. I'm willing to bet he is loving all the international attention and validation his actions have created. Sick.

ijustwannadance · 04/02/2018 14:26

Funny how the article in the link above was written by a trans woman. Not biased at allHmm.
Andi spouting bullshit that he helped his friend who was raped and a young girl from being pimped out is his contribution to woman. Just wow.

I dispise the language they use to get the sympathy vote. The big nasty terfs will come and get me so I might kill myself, and, denying us is fucking genocide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angry
Elendon · 04/02/2018 14:46

Obviously the article linked above is not the New Yorker nor the Federalist article Ijustwannadance

For the record, it would be good if you could link to the article that you mean.

Not only did the New Yorker article

www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/harvey-weinsteins-army-of-spies

discuss the use of hiring women who purported to be feminists and interested in the story (which was about to implode anyway the New York Times were also on it), but the article explicitly states they wanted to know what the content of McGowan's book was before she agreed to publishing it. The article does have direct links to these people who tried to befriend not only McGowan but other women too. The links ran cold but are strong nonetheless.

Elendon · 04/02/2018 14:54

Sorry, other women and journalists.

Please link to the article you despise so much. Because your post ijustwannadance is not clear at all. And I'm sure you mean it to be very clear what article you are referring to. xx

CaptainBrickbeard · 04/02/2018 15:10

People are speaking up. On my FB, there are tentative soundings out of gender critical ideas, accompanied with a ‘I haven’t said this before but I can’t keep quiet anymore...’ slant. I feel so sorry that Rose McGowan, yet again, is victimised in such a shocking way that it makes the scales fall from so many eyes.

DickTERFin · 04/02/2018 15:12

Whilst I wouldn't say it is beyond the realms of possibility that Weinstein could be linked to Dier, I think it likely that they have never come across each other.

The thing is that a women like McGowan, throwing light on the epidemic of male sexual aggression will draw out the abusive dominators from their slimy little holes, like moths to a flame. They will violently defend their privilege and they don't need to organise or collaborate with each other, it's an automatic response ingrained in the system.

ijustwannadance · 04/02/2018 15:17

I was refering to the link in the middle of SophoclesTheFox's post.

OvaHere · 04/02/2018 15:27

Not sure if this has been posted but Dier was involved in the harassment of a gay man back in 2015

genderidentitywatch.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/farewell-to-the-rainbow-center-by-jeff-b.pdf

MountainsofMars · 04/02/2018 15:49

Oh I remember hearing about that - not about who did it, but that a gay man was hounded from his job in a gay organisation.

OvaHere · 04/02/2018 15:53

Yes Mountains, I remember reading about it at the time. Surprise surprise that Dier has form for this stuff.
