Is "cis" the future ?

I will admit to being new to the topic and still reading but many threads on here have lead me to further reading. I don't think I've ever bothered with the whole feminist thing until now when I see it being threatened by the trans agenda. Im starting to now feel much more protective about women's rights perhaps it's because I'm older or perhaps in my lifetime there's never been a threat to it ? I'm fearful to say even that for being accused of transphobia and I have no issue at all with anyone living their life as they wish - but I have a daughter and am now fearful for the future - will she have safe women only spaces ? Possibly not. Will she have to call herself a cis woman rather than just a woman ?
I dislike the agenda that you cannot debate or disagree or you're a bigot . It seems so backwards and confusing
I feel ignorant about what's going on out there and would love some insight from better informed posters here .

@Laine01 and others finding it hard to understand that we support women AND Trans people, just not the creating of Trans Rights at the expense/curtailment of womens

Attached pics:

  1. LIfe as it is currently
  2. Life as it would be under the GRA/Self-ID.

Does that help?

Is "cis" the future ?

Sorry, that's unclear, I meant not a 'TRA', just an ordinary canadian citizen. Hence the importance of resisting what is happening here, the JJ fundraiser, the Campion fundraiser and all the press. Resistance might not be possible, it seems like a generational thing, old ideas of responsibility for others and the social contract are uninviting because seen as failed. Is it all now about individualism, libertarianism, the notion that anyone can be anything, might be wildly successful as say elon musk? but for some reason not acknowledging education, privilege, and hard work.

Saw this linked on twitter. It's an article from 2012, very disturbing to note how much the language has changed in these cases since then.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2184888/Transvestite-dressed-old-lady-grope-young-girls-told-wearing-womens-clothing-meet-emotional-needs.html

The pervert hid his masculine features under a woman’s coat, scarf and hat and even sprinkled vanilla essence over his disguise to make him smell like an old woman.
He would put on a 'soft-pitched' voice and talk about the cold weather while snuggling up to unsuspecting female passers-by.
All the unsuspecting women believed Reed really was a woman

He told the defendant: 'There is to be no more sidling up to women in bus queues and touching them.
'That must cease because you must understand how upsetting that can be.
'If you wish to dress up in women’s clothing you can do that but you must not cover your face, so that people will know that you are a man

Danielle Muscato, for example, shouldn’t be allowed to use the women’s bathroom but I’d have no issue with Laverne Cox using it. Does that make sense?

@TheCatsPaws

I want to answer your comment.

Laverne Cox starred in a TV show, right? Orange is the new black?

Just beware of how much spin is involved in this ideology.

Laverne Cox advocated for, and wrote public letters on behalf of, Synthia China Blast. The transwoman who raped, murdered and burnt the body of a child.

Cox leveraged her fame to be platformed.

"I want my voice to be heard, I want my dreams to matter,".

She petitioned to get this person transferred to a woman's prison.

My advice would be to always look under the surface of what people say.

This ideology seems to excuse every misdemeanour or monstrous crime in order to promote itself.

Take a deep breath and drill down into everything you read. Do not take anyone's word for it, even mine!

I thought trans women meant women who were biologically men but identify as female? I don’t think they’re saying they have women’s biology?

Sorry, I know it looks like I'm singling you out. It's because you are asking very pertinent questions.

The narrative is that transwomen are actually biological women. Because doctors made a mistake when they were born with regards to their anatomy.

Being male or female is not a question of biology or anatomy. It's all about how you think.

Which somehow doesn't quite work when transwomen have sexual criminal patterns exactly the same as natal men, actually slightly higher.

It also promotes the idea of a lady brain. Which, unsurprisingly, I haven't heard a transwoman ever describe (other than it being about dresses and make up).

And, of course, completely disregards the reason why women are oppressed in the first place. On the basis of their biology.

117 million girl babies are not aborted before they are born, on the basis of how they think. Or may think.

But yes, you will hear that men are biologically women and that their penis is a female organ.

TheCatsPaws · 01/02/2018 21:35

Thank you for the informative reply. I meant in terms of, if I didn’t know who they were, I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable with a person like Laverne Cox in the bathroom but Danielle Muscato might make me feel a bit awkward. Purely because the first, I can’t tell she’s trans and the second makes no effort to transition so would just look like a man in the women’s toilet.

I’ve never understood the need some people feel to get sex offenders who are trans moved to women’s prisons, particularly if they’ve committed these crimes against women.

I agree with your points about how it gives an idea of a lady brain/Male brain. I’ve been told I have a “Male brain” because I was fairly good at science and mathematics at school...no I have a persons brain.

That they think it’s a “female penis” is strange. I’ve always heard trans people claim to be the “wrong sex”. I agree that people who say it’s a female penis are a bit delusional.

KittiesInsane · 01/02/2018 21:41

I've been told I have an 'extreme male brain' according to online tests for ASD (we can thank Simon Baron Cohen for that sexist piece of terminology).

No, my brain is in a female body and is therefore female.

Datun · 01/02/2018 22:58

Well exactly. It's incredibly sexist to suggest that women have male brains for any reason. But for liking maths?

It's so regressive. We're going back to the times when women weren't considered worthy or capable of an education, because their brains couldn't handle it.

And with 2000 kids a year showing up at gender clinics, the vast majority of whom aren't forwarded for treatment, what does it say about how either they, or their parents are thinking?

TheCatsPaws · 01/02/2018 23:00

I can remember being told, as a teenager, “you’d fit in more if you wore more makeup and didn’t talk so much.”

As it happens I grew to love makeup as I got older, but that was an incredibly sexist assumption and I do think trans issues risk stereotyping those of us who are happy being women as “gender conformists”.

OlennasWimple · 02/02/2018 03:05

Yeah, you would know that Laverne Cox is a transwoman, you really would.

matt1978 · 02/02/2018 03:40

So perhaps this is irrelevant to this discussion but also interesting and I'm curious where the pressure came from - but canada has also just changed the words of the national anthem to make it gender neutral
From "all thy sons command" to "all of us command"
I have to admit this makes me eye roll and wonder what next ffs - but I wonder - SHOULD I have felt offended by the previous wording ? Or is that just a bit batshit ?

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 02/02/2018 04:13

The original Canadian anthem had neutral words and they changed it to exclude women. Fuck that noise! I would have changed it back to the original but it was "thou dost in us command" and pissed hockey fans can't be expected to navigate that line.

matt1978 · 02/02/2018 04:39

Well if they took it even further back it would create even more issues !

OP posts:
matt1978 · 02/02/2018 04:41

Sorry tried to attach photo of french lyrics "oh canada terre de nos aieux" (land of our forefathers etc)

OP posts:
matt1978 · 02/02/2018 04:43

In any case it seems a small matter since it's been changed many times over the years. It was changed to "all our sons command" in 1914 to honour those who fought in WWI so yes probably outdated
I just can't help wondering if there are bigger social, national, international problems that governments should be discussing and working on than this ?

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 02/02/2018 04:46

Strictly, it's ancestors. Plurals are male in French but include women. Still sexist but correct through usage.

The whole thing is also complicated because it's not actually the land of our ancestors now is it... considering it's stolen land and a very large proportion of Canadians weren't born here anyway. There's a very long and deep rabbit home Grin

lizzieoak · 02/02/2018 04:51

I saw that about the anthem, which is weird, because we’ve all been singing “in all our hearts command” for years!! A number of us have also been sneakily singing “our home and natives’ land” because land claims :D

Growing up I didn’t think about the gendered language but it is kind of weird and I prefer not to sing sons. I pay taxes, I want to be in the anthem.

matt1978 · 02/02/2018 05:06

lizzie ha ha very rebellious! I'm actually more surprised it hasn't been changed sooner to remove the "native land" line considering, you know, it's actually not and that's pretty offensive to the indigenous people of canada !

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 02/02/2018 05:11

Ah but you can punctate the shit out of that. There's a difference between, "our home and native land" and "our home. And Native Land" which is what I sing. Subtle but important.

It's all ridiculous really. DD spends her time at school learning about First Nations and colonialism and all that good stuff. Then 150 hits and she's asking how come Canada is 150 years old when the First Nations have been here thousands.

matt1978 · 02/02/2018 05:31

mrsterry for fear of derailing this thread I'm curious what they get taught about First Nations then - is the real story glossed over ? (Mine are only SK and Grade 2 so would be nice to be prepared!)

OP posts:
matt1978 · 02/02/2018 05:33

Oh and also are you Canadian or expat like me ?

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 02/02/2018 05:40

Orange shirt day in some detail, local beliefs and medicine, First Nations art and culture, loads of stuff. It's a pretty good school and lucky to have lots of visiting experts and parents who are involved as well.

I also work a lot with First Nations and Metis people. So we chat a lot.

I'm an expat and a Canadian!

sexysalad · 02/02/2018 05:58

I'm an expat and a Canadian!
Well come to think of it , so am I in fact ha ha !!

lizzieoak · 02/02/2018 06:19

Matt and MrsP, isn’t it going to depend a lot on your province? I think Mrs P is in BC (as am I) & our curriculum is pretty good with regard to Indigenous & Metis issues (says I, who is not FN).

ApacheEchidna · 02/02/2018 06:47

TheCatsPaws I thought trans women meant women who were biologically men but identify as female? I don’t think they’re saying they have women’s biology?

Some are. The ones who insist that their fully functioning, sperm-ejaculating penis is in fact a clit and that any lesbian who thinks that they can exclude such a body from their potential dating pool is terf scum who should die in a fire. I am not making this up. Google "cotton ceiling"
