Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is "cis" the future ?

I will admit to being new to the topic and still reading but many threads on here have lead me to further reading. I don't think I've ever bothered with the whole feminist thing until now when I see it being threatened by the trans agenda. Im starting to now feel much more protective about women's rights perhaps it's because I'm older or perhaps in my lifetime there's never been a threat to it ? I'm fearful to say even that for being accused of transphobia and I have no issue at all with anyone living their life as they wish - but I have a daughter and am now fearful for the future - will she have safe women only spaces ? Possibly not. Will she have to call herself a cis woman rather than just a woman ?
I dislike the agenda that you cannot debate or disagree or you're a bigot . It seems so backwards and confusing
I feel ignorant about what's going on out there and would love some insight from better informed posters here .

Men can be midwifes and give smear tests anyway so what's the problem? With the way the NHS is going I'd be grateful to get help of any kind.

Can be. But I can also request a woman. You might be grateful for any medical care you get, I'd rather rape survivors were given the option to refuse a smear by a man. Do you not?

Laine imagine for a minute that you want vaginal exams to be carried out by a woman because you have been sexually assaulted in the past and have trauma about a man putting his hands in your vagina. At the moment you can request a female to carry this out. You seriously think someone with a penis dressed as a woman would be fine for you, in that circumstance?
You’re pretty cold if so.

Why is everything got to be segregated by sex or gender or whatever the fuck SJWs call it these days?

Everything does not need to be segregated by sex (nothing is segregated by 'gender' despite what the genderists would have you believe), but places where female people are more vulnerable/are naked or partially clothed should be segregated by sex. Likewise people should be able to access a same sex HCP if thats what they want.

stoneagefertilitydoll · 01/02/2018 19:35

mtf are just as female as anyone else and ftm are just as male as anyone else

Here's one - If you're being searched at the airport, you can request that you are searched by someone of the same sex. We don't let men insist that they are patted down by women, because we absolutely know that there are men who will get off on that, and it would be a hostile work environment for those women.

If self-id goes through, then that goes. A man can say he's a woman, and insist that a woman pats him down. If that was your job, do you think that would be fair?

OnTheList · 01/02/2018 19:36

I can see where you're coming from with prisons and rape crisis shelters but i don't see the problem with any others to be honest, mtf are just as female as anyone else and ftm are just as male as anyone else.

No, male people are male and female people are female. Sex change is impossible.

Though personally I would have no issue with post-op transsexual people using the spaces designated for the opposite sex. I do understand some women would still be uncomfortable with that though. And the whole issue so far has basically been...give an inch and they (transactivists, not really transsexual people) take a mile.

OnTheList · 01/02/2018 19:39

Again though i'm not a feminazi myself so can't say to much but i personally believe we can function the same if trans people have the same rights so all i can wish really is that they get all the rights they deserve and nothing else changes.

Ahhh 'feminazi'. MRA or TRA. I took you at face value too. Should have read the full thread before replying

Yeah, feminazi to think male people are male and need their own spaces, and that female people are female and need their own spaces. And that male and female are different. How terrible to care about the rights of women (real women, not male women)

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 01/02/2018 19:41

I don't know what it means to identify as a woman. I never have. I always struggled fitting in with other females. I certainly don't identify with the gender role that has been applied to me based on my biological sex.

So if I'm not cis, then does that mean I'm trans? Because the opposite of one is the other?

terryleather · 01/02/2018 19:41

I don't identify as a woman. I am a woman.

I don't gaf what people identify as, it's got no bearing on the way they will be identified and treated by others that is to say they will be recognised as their sex and treated as such.

D'you think if all the girls in the world who might be subject to FGM identified as men it would stop FGM from happening?

stoneagefertilitydoll · 01/02/2018 19:42

Women can't be transwomen too because they already identify as women.

Speak for yourself..

mtf are just as female as anyone else and ftm are just as male as anyone else.

If a transwoman puts her penis in me, I can be fertilized. I don't have a penis to stick in a transwoman, but if I got a man to stick his penis in the transwoman, there is zero chance they can be fertilized.

transwomen are not as female as any woman, because they produce sperm, not ova, and being of the sex that produces ova is what being female means (and that's all it means - it has no bearing on my hobbies or dress-sense)

Have we all filled in the sex Ed consultation? Think there's a real need for it!

matt1978 · 01/02/2018 19:47

sameterf (not sure who Morgane is ?) I have very clearly NOT been paying attention and now I am absolutely fuming! Where are the Canadian conversations about this kind of thing happening do you know any sites I can look at ?

"transbian ladydick activists"
Aw that was a great laugh it made my day

Yeah, not quite so hilarious if you're a lesbian on the receiving end of Hmm

PencilsInSpace · 01/02/2018 19:54

Feminist Current is excellent, matt. It's run by Meghan Murphy who is Canada based, although the site covers stories from around the world.

SameTerfDifferentUserName · 01/02/2018 19:56

Sorry Matt I may have confused you with another poster! Morgane O something or other is a Canadian fuckwit/politician who is trying to track down a woman on twitter and either re-educate or sue her for holding a sign full of biological facts at a rally!

SameTerfDifferentUserName · 01/02/2018 19:58

Really sorry Matt, realised your the OP and not the fuckwit TRA poster Blush twitter has really pissed me off today!

SameTerfDifferentUserName · 01/02/2018 19:58

*you're bloody hell!

matt1978 · 01/02/2018 19:59

sameterf that's ok I was a bit confused ! Yes I did see the story (through here actually) about the women's march and the politician (?) trying to track her down. I loved all the replies on twitter claiming to be her!

When your beliefs are impervious to material reality you are in danger of a psychotic break.

slightlybefuddledlibrarian · 01/02/2018 20:09

I did lol at Morgane. Not from Van then, Matt?

thebewilderness · 01/02/2018 20:11

The elephant in the room of all these kinds of discussions about giving males unfettered access to females is that male violence is the greatest human rights crisis the world has ever known.

bombadino · 01/02/2018 20:17

The TRA may be an ordinary Canadian
the obliviousness
