Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is "cis" the future ?

I will admit to being new to the topic and still reading but many threads on here have lead me to further reading. I don't think I've ever bothered with the whole feminist thing until now when I see it being threatened by the trans agenda. Im starting to now feel much more protective about women's rights perhaps it's because I'm older or perhaps in my lifetime there's never been a threat to it ? I'm fearful to say even that for being accused of transphobia and I have no issue at all with anyone living their life as they wish - but I have a daughter and am now fearful for the future - will she have safe women only spaces ? Possibly not. Will she have to call herself a cis woman rather than just a woman ?
I dislike the agenda that you cannot debate or disagree or you're a bigot . It seems so backwards and confusing
I feel ignorant about what's going on out there and would love some insight from better informed posters here .

Two slightly different shapes of the same twisty molecule, WildWinds (what a v nice user name that is).

newyearsameme80 · 01/02/2018 18:58

Cis will never become a widespread term as men won’t use it
Same as men won’t date trans women, while telling other women they are just the same as us - except for relationship purposes.

Laine01 · 01/02/2018 18:59

"Males who are trans are as likely to harm women as males who are not"

Then why is it any different whether they have rights or not? If they're just as likely to it doesn't matter.

Geronimoleapinglizards · 01/02/2018 19:01

In my mind i would give transgenders 100% rights to go wherever they want and use whatever they want

Sorry me again. I have another question.

If Ian Huntley says he's a woman, are you happy with him being transferred to a woman's prison tomorrow? If, god forbid, you did something which landed you in prison, would you be happy to share a cell with him or a bathroom or sit next to him to eat lunch? If not, why not?

LangCleg · 01/02/2018 19:01

Gosh, how original. Not answered that one before a million times over.

Yep, yep, people gonna murder anyway, right? So why bother with the police?

Laine01

Your posts are one of the miriad variations on "why can't you all just be nice?". I could run away to the Bahamas if I had a £ for every time that appeal is made.

No, I'm afraid I can't be nice. Not when the rights of women and girls are being trampled on and no one seems to gaf.

Transwomen are men, not some other "type" of women, they are a type of man otherwise what does the trans part mean?

And if transwomen are women can women be transwomen too. If not why not?

OvaHere · 01/02/2018 19:03

@Ovahere
In my mind i would give transgenders 100% rights to go wherever they want and use whatever they want
But i know women are particularly vulnerable about those types of places and so i agree especially in those circumstances as i also want cis women to feel fairly happy.
It's all about compromise.

I would also be willing to compromise by retaining certain spaces for biological females. As would most women here. It's the transactivists that will not compromise and insist we accept a penis as a female sex organ.

It's pretty insulting to describe women who do not want to get undressed with male bodied strangers in the room 'feminazi's' Hmm

newyearsameme80 · 01/02/2018 19:04

Laine no one is suggesting trans people don’t have or shouldn’t have rights
They just require the rights owed to them. We all have human rights. However women have some rights to protection due to centuries of discrimination and violence against them. You get those rights by being born a woman.

I don’t require the extra protections afforded to people with disabilities. I do not complain when I see someone disabled receiving adjustments to support them and say “me too!”

HerFemaleness · 01/02/2018 19:05

Trans women can still be called and treated like women x

Transwomen want to be treated like women. Women just want to be treated like human beings.

TheCatsPaws · 01/02/2018 19:06

I thought trans women meant women who were biologically men but identify as female? I don’t think they’re saying they have women’s biology?

SameTerfDifferentUserName · 01/02/2018 19:07

I'm going to start donating £1 to either the AWS or the free speech crowd finder everytime I hear this drivel.

Yes I've heard every argument there is and I disagree. The bottom line is I'm keeping my rights because I WANT TO.

I've not even been here that long and that's my position.

Flowers to everyone who's been fighting this batshittery for years.

Laine01 · 01/02/2018 19:08

I'm not classing you as feminazis for that reason.

Women can't be transwomen too because they already identify as women.

There is a difference between equal rights for all and getting your own way.

But again you can believe whatever you want as it is your body and choice just as its everyone else's body and choice to do what they want.

HerFemaleness · 01/02/2018 19:10

I don't identify as a woman. What an odd thought. I am a woman. It would be like identifying as being alive.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 01/02/2018 19:10

What if I murder you? Is that my body and choice? Or do some of our choices impact on other people?

X

matt1978 · 01/02/2018 19:11

So I am British but actually live in canada. I tend to follow mostly British news but today this came to my attention

Wonderful. So I when turn up to my smear, request a female HCP and a male-bodied person comes out who identifies as a women (but still has a beard, penis, 6 foot tall etc.) whose 'body choice' wins according to you?

UpstartCrow · 01/02/2018 19:14

Equal rights for all vs feminazi getting your own way. I laughed out loud.

OnTheList · 01/02/2018 19:14

Can someone explain the anger at cis? I have no strong feelings on it, and generally ascribe to let people be.

Cis assumes that you 'identify' with all of the sex stereotypes pushed onto you. Not many, if any, people are actually 'cis'

Assuming everyone else except trans people are 'cis' is pretty silly coming from a group that get oh so offended if someone misgenders them. I HAVE no gender at all. I don't believe in gender and think its all societies bullshit. But I am still lumped into the ridiculous 'cis' bracket so that others can feel special about themselves for rejecting sex stereotypes. Its bonkers.

Also its generally used in a very negative way. Shut up, cis people know nothing. Die cis scum. Etc.

newyearsameme80 · 01/02/2018 19:14

Exactly. It’s the language shift involved. Makes it seem normal to “identify” instead of simply to be.
I can’t identify as a woman as I don’t know what that would mean, other than being an adult female. But I just am an adult female I don’t need to identify as one.

LangCleg · 01/02/2018 19:15

Women can't be transwomen too because they already identify as women.

Nobody can identify as a woman because woman is a material reality.

That said, if one subscribes to gender identity theory, one's individual subjective view of it is all that counts. If I want to be a transwoman, you're a bigot to try and deny me.

Can't have it both ways.

As it is, the whole thing is a cultish religion on a par with Scientology. Cis is just religious terminology and, since I am not a cult member or follower of this religion, it does not apply to me.

OvaHere · 01/02/2018 19:17

There is a difference between equal rights for all and getting your own way.

Tell that to the transbian ladydick activists.

eurochick · 01/02/2018 19:19

The labelling of women as "cis" is vaguely reminiscent of white people forcing terminology on ethnic minorities - coloured or boy or the n word or whatever. Ethnic minorities didn't like that terminology so as society became more aware of race it became unacceptable to use them. The trans community seems to be trying to do the same to women. I reject the terminology.

SameTerfDifferentUserName · 01/02/2018 19:20

Matt/Morgane we know what's happening in Canada and it's not happening here because we SAID NO.

Laine01 · 01/02/2018 19:21

Murder is a different story(you're over reacting again)

Men can be midwifes and give smear tests anyway so what's the problem? With the way the NHS is going I'd be grateful to get help of any kind.

I understand you would want a female doctor and you have a right to one but transgender women are women and all doctors are trained in that anatomy anyway.

But again and lastly i don't personally agree with you all(on some extent i do) as i am not a feminist so i'm going to let you all continue your discussion and stick with my opinions and beliefs

Laine01 · 01/02/2018 19:21

"transbian ladydick activists"
Aw that was a great life it made my day 😂
