Friends have written a letter saying "we demand that her identity as a woman is returned to her immediately".

Women in women's prisons don't get fucking straighteners or epilators either you ginormous self obsessed plonker.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 19:12

If that's him is it his pubes he's straightening? Because otherwise...

UpstartCrow · 27/01/2018 19:13

The Express article includes a photo;

OlennasWimple · 27/01/2018 19:19

The Express article from his original hearing in 2009 notes that he was also convicted of possessing indecent images of children. So he is a child sex offender, as well as a voyeur and fetishist.

But this never happens, and any woman who says that they don't want to share a changing room with TIM is just a nasty terfy bigot Hmm

Bubbington · 27/01/2018 19:29

I have emailed The Guardian, [email protected], I would like to tweet but I don't know how to!

Cauliflowersqueeze · 27/01/2018 19:39

I actually think he’d be safer in a men’s prison. Those women would lynch him.

Popchyk · 27/01/2018 19:40

The Daily Mail article hasn't been changed, but the Comments section has someone commenting on the fact that he is a convicted sex offender. Probably someone from on here.

I suspect The Mail will then write a further article bashing the Guardian's reporting and will ignore the fact that it didn't mention the nature of his offences either.

And that's fine with me.

The more light on this the better.

PidgeonPodge · 27/01/2018 19:40

Gary Dean Marie, 42, committed more than 30 offences, including voyeurism, aggravated burglary and assaulting police officers, a court heard yesterday

Marie, of Lubbock Street, Burnley, was a sexual offender who broke into several homes and filmed himself wearing underwear belonging to teenage girls in Burnley and Padiham, Preston Crown Court was told

FFS

Yeah, that sound exactly like someone who should be let lose in any place where women are often vulnerable.

Hopefully the more stories like this (where women haven't had to be hurt to bring it to the world's attention - excepting his prior victims of course) the better.

PidgeonPodge · 27/01/2018 19:44

There needs to be a clear red line drawn between gender dysmorphia (diagnosed and correctly treated/therapy) and FETISHES.

boatyardblues · 27/01/2018 19:53

It says in the Lancashire Telegraph article linked to upthread that he was wearing a women’s thong and sports bra when arrested, and that his homemade black balaclava was fashioned from women’s knickers. Creepy fuck!

Identifying as a woman massively increases your access to young children in women’s changing facilities. I agree with the PP who said that sex offenders should not be allowed to have a GRC. All this deadnaming shit gives them a carte blanche to walk away from a problematic offending history. The completely new birth certificate is a problem for the same reason.

Popchyk · 27/01/2018 19:53

Wait a bloody minute.

Have you read this? This is the petition to force the authorities to move "Marie".

www.change.org/p/preston-magistrates-court-stop-the-inhumane-and-degrading-treatment-of-transgender-women-within-the-justice-system

In it, the supporters helpfully point out that "Marie" was out on licence in three separate male hostels before being recalled to prison again.

So "Marie" got an IPP sentence (like in the John Worboys' case) and was let out, presumably last year or so.

boatyardblues · 27/01/2018 19:57

There needs to be a clear red line drawn between gender dysmorphia (diagnosed and correctly treated/therapy) and FETISHES.

I think its gone beyond that now. Sex offenders will just learn what they need to say in therapy to tick the dysphoria box. There’s no definitive way to prove whether or not someone's beliefs are sincerely held. The high numbers of sex offenders transitioning in prison should be sounding the alarm and prompting the review of existing legislation. There’s absolutely no way we should be considering relaxing the current safeguards.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 20:02

I don't think sex offenders should even be allowed to change their names, makes it too easy for them to evade attempts to track them and avoid their inevitable later offenses being connected to the ones they were already convicted for.

QOFE · 27/01/2018 20:04

Yes Popchyk I noticed that. I'd like to know more about the ruling tbh. Can anyone find out more or read the judge's reasoning online?

PencilsInSpace · 27/01/2018 20:04

TBF I reckon the prison service are very clued up on all this, hence their rejection of this scrote's claims to womanhood. I imagine it's a lot harder to get a GRC inside because you're being watched for the whole 2 year qualifying period and relying on prison doctors and psychologists, who are no fools, for your GD diagnosis.

Obviously if the process moves to self-ID all that's out the window and he'd be in a women's prison faster than you could say 'balaclava knickers'.

Popchyk · 27/01/2018 20:12

I'll have a dig on the internet, QOPE.

And yes, thank God the prison service are knocking them back at every turn. And in this case, the fact that "Marie" was recalled to prison suggests that the system is perhaps working.

I only hope that this person did not commit further offences against any women and girls while out on licence.

OlennasWimple · 27/01/2018 20:15

POpchyck - I noticed that too, about the parole and breach of licence

Also, did you see the sentence that said "All she ever wanted to do was move forward with her life after working hard to identify the true cause of her offending."? It was being trans that made him a criminal, poor love

PidgeonPodge · 27/01/2018 20:15

I think its gone beyond that now. Sex offenders will just learn what they need to say in therapy to tick the dysphoria box

Maybe a tightened GRC could work, which meant they couldn't get access to any other spaces but mens unless they go the whole hog, surgery, everything.

And then, if they did all that they'd still only be sent to a 'trans' wing or something.

That should weed them out shouldn't it?

OlennasWimple · 27/01/2018 20:19

Gosh, Paris Lees et al are awfully quiet on Twitter about this case. Cant' think why....

RedToothBrush · 27/01/2018 20:30

One of his previous victims has tried to commit suicide.

I wonder how well she is coping on hearing this shit.

I hope she is doing well, and has support.

As for this fucker. Na. Let him rot in a men's jail.

WillowWept · 27/01/2018 20:31

Is there a hashtag for this story? I can't find any reference to it on twitter?

balaclavaknickers · 27/01/2018 20:36

Who are these people commenting in support on that petition? They appear to not even have the slightest inkling that Gary Marie's victims have had lifelong consequences of his crimes, and that women in the female estate will be in danger if he is moved. He is a sex offender. I despair.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 20:36

Is it that they don't know or that they don't care?

DickTERFin · 27/01/2018 21:08

In total she stayed in three separate hostels. In one Hostel she was exposed to a very toxic atmosphere where Spice was prevalent and going unchallenged and residence would stay up at all hours making excessive amounts of noise keeping her awake.

The poor flower. My bottom lip is actually wibbling.

Marie had not knowingly broken any of her licence conditions

Like fuck he doesn't know. Doesn't understand how he got caught out and is hoping there is no proof, more like.

The chances of this pathological liar actually starving themselves to death are zero. Mercifully the prison service are well versed in the tactics of manipulative narcs.

Unfortunately, this will be worthless if self ID goes through and sociopaths like this one will be given carte blanche to jizz over as many women's underwear in prison as they like, whilst the women will have nowhere to go and no way of complaining. But then maybe I'm being unfair. The poor dear has had their beauty sleep interrupted after all ~Oh the horror!

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 21:11

I'm sure the girls whose homes he broke into so he could wank in their knickers sleep well because of their "cis privilege".

Someone who knows about how release from prison works - what would he have to have done to have been refused a transfer to his preferred type of living situation and to quickly end up back in prison? Seems like if he'd behaved himself he'd probably be free now.

OlennasWimple · 27/01/2018 21:17

Breach of licence can be a fairly cut and dried thing, Angry

So if he was prohibited from, say, being within 200 metres of a secondary school and he was found to have been 150 metres away from a St Theresa's Secondary Girls School, then he would have breached the terms of his licence and recalled to prison.

I guess it is possible that he unknowingly breached his licence (didn't know that the street he was on curved round to take him that close to the school for example), but he definitely knows which bit(s) of his licence he breached, as this is made clear when he is apprehended and returned to the prison estate. He is presumably eligible for Legal Aid, and his lawyer would be lodging an appeal against the return to prison if they thought it stood any chance.
