Link

Friends have written a letter saying "we demand that her identity as a woman is returned to her immediately".

Women in women's prisons don't get fucking straighteners or epilators either you ginormous self obsessed plonker.

Is there a way to complain about the Guardian's reporting? It's so misleading! Sad

Collidascope · 27/01/2018 16:50

The Mark Townsend who wrote this is also the Mark Townsend who wrote about Tara Hudson (he of the 7 inch surprise) a few days ago. That was another piss poor article as I recall.

Popchyk · 27/01/2018 16:54

Be utterly brilliant if Owen Jones did champion Marie's cause though.

"Tragic, vulnerable prisoner hounded by the right wing media - unable to be her authentic self". I can write it for him if he wants. I know exactly what he'll say.

"Marie is slight and quietly spoken. A demure woman who favours pastels and flowers and likes listening to Take That on her battered MP3 player. She's describes herself as 'just an ordinary woman' and on the face of it, that's exactly what she is. But there is one thing extraordinary about her. She is housed in A Male Prison. With men."

Justabunchofcunts · 27/01/2018 16:56

Some great tweets. Keep going and focus on the reasons this affects women and query the reporting bias. There are lots of challenges for trans people and it is important not to give the impression in anger that this isn't important too.

miri1985 · 27/01/2018 16:56

Given the amount of damage I've done to myself with a hair straightener when not intending to injure myself, I dread to think what criminals could get up to with a straightener or an epilator which I'm too scared to use.

Wouldn't a straightener as well be a major fire hazard?

blackdoggotmytongue · 27/01/2018 16:56

Bambam that’s a really interesting idea. Could be listed out with their names and crimes and a demand they get moved immediately to the women’s estate because they ID as women. Actual facts instead of the woolly reporting that is passing for journalism.
I still retain the hope that at some point labour are going to wake up and smell the coffee. Public requests for all high profile trans women to sign the petition. And all politicians. This is what self ID means. Deliberately putting more women in danger by taking self-ID ‘gender’ as the sorting mechanism for access to sex-segregated spaces.

Collidascope · 27/01/2018 16:59

She's describes herself as 'just an ordinary woman'

Indeed. I don't know one woman who hasn't broken into someone else's house at least once in order to wank into a teen girl's underwear. I'm so glad Mark Townsend realised that and saw it as an unnecessary detail.

flapsDentata · 27/01/2018 17:01

Because all ordinary women jizz over lacy knickers. This is such a bad bad bad example of what we are fighting against. I suggest getting on Twitter, and making a lot of noise. Keep it under the hashtag, so other gender critical people can see the utter state of this delusion. I’m so angry now.

And I’ve never used hair straighteners in my life. Gender doesn’t inform my biology.

PencilsInSpace · 27/01/2018 17:02

Do we have actual proof that this is the same person? I know it looks very likely but proof would be useful.

Justabunchofcunts · 27/01/2018 17:04

Yes you can complain about press coverage. This is the org and will tell you what you Can and can't cover. www.ipso.co.uk/news-press-releases/ipso-blog/ipso-blog-coverage-of-transgender-issues/

Currently it has guidelines for coverage that focus on protecting trans people when reported on.

Justabunchofcunts · 27/01/2018 17:04

But that bit is just a topical blog - the main site will outline grounds for complaint.

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 27/01/2018 17:05

Too bad so sad.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 17:05

Today I learned that only men have curly hair. Women are either born with it straight or feel a deep compulsion to straighten it.

Today I also learned that I am a man. Must inform the husband, maybe our combined income will be higher now.

VoleClock · 27/01/2018 17:05

Depressing isn't it? I can imagine a lot of people reading the Guardian article and feeling sorry for Marie 'trapped in the wrong body' in the 'wrong' cell- it creates a wholly false impression. I used to read the Guardian but now I only look at the crossword and First Dog on the Moon ....

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 27/01/2018 17:08

My post was in response to the poor prisoner's plight, not to the previous post!

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/01/2018 17:10

Come on now, women of Mumsnet.

Who amongst us hasn't broken into teenage girls' bedrooms, filmed themselves wanking in her underwear and then made off on a bicycle, wearing a pair of women's knickers as a balaclava and lobbed CS gas grenades at police when they tried to stop us?

It's just our womanliness asserting itself, surely?

Lucydogz · 27/01/2018 17:10

I've gone onto his twitter feed, but can't tweet him. Great tweets from others though, I wonder if he'll respond.

Collidascope · 27/01/2018 17:11

Today I also learned that I am a man. Must inform the husband, maybe our combined income will be higher now.

Sorry to disappoint you, Angry, but no pay rise for you. Apparently only trans women are actual women. Trans men remain women. Owen Jones has spoken on the subject.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 17:13

The grenades were a nice touch. He couldn't help the home invasion or wanking, you see, it's a compulsion, and of course he always has the grenades in his pocket in case of, um, attack by confused badgers? No premeditation here, your honor, the poor girl just can't help expressing herself.

NotTerfNorCis · 27/01/2018 17:16

Hahaha brilliant popchyk !

QOFE · 27/01/2018 17:25

If it's not the same pervert it's one hell of a coincidence...

The names match
The ages match
The area matches
The crimes match
The sentence matches

Really what are the chances?

Popchyk · 27/01/2018 17:27

I've read the article again.

I have a funny feeling that Mark Townsend might even be on our side. There's enough information in that article there for anyone to google Gary Dean Marie and his convictions very easily, without the author explicitly saying it.

If the Guardian really didn't want negative transgender stories, then it wouldn't actually publish this one in the first place. None of the other papers have covered this. The only reason we know about this sex offender is because Townsend wrote the article.

And Mark Townsend is a very experienced journalist, he is Home Affairs Editor at The Observer. He knows this article will cause a fuss. Maybe that's what he wants.

DailyWTFMoments · 27/01/2018 17:29

popchyk if it hadn't been for his article last week, I would agree with you - but I fear he's drunk the CoolAid and believes he is well placed to champion this cause.

guardianfree · 27/01/2018 17:33

popchyk
I suppose it's whether his story is seen of as 'evidence' by all the 'transgender women are women' advocates of the discrimination against trans people or whether the truth ever surfaces. As the Guardian rarely allows comments under TG articles I'm not sure I agree as to his motives. I see it more symptomatic of the arrogance of the male left.

Justabunchofcunts · 27/01/2018 17:36

Pop I love your optimism but don't share it in this case.
