Link

Friends have written a letter saying "we demand that her identity as a woman is returned to her immediately".

Women in women's prisons don't get fucking straighteners or epilators either you ginormous self obsessed plonker.

Wait up kittens. Only men have curly hair?
Fuck.

Popchyk · 27/01/2018 17:42

I'm not ready to burn him at the stake just yet.

The Daily Mail has only just picked it up.

Daily Mail

Just a rehash of the Guardian article. Daily Mail article doesn't mention the convicted sex offender bit either.

Is it maybe because they cannot legally refer to it as the offences were committed by Gary and not Marie?

QOFE · 27/01/2018 17:46

He hasn't got a GRC so presumably not? But I don't know. Maybe. Chilling if so.

Dean MArie can fuck off and stay behind bars in a men's prison, where he belongs Angry

blackdoggotmytongue · 27/01/2018 17:51

I’m pleased that I’m getting ads for hair straighteners now though. Thanks Gary.

officerhinrika · 27/01/2018 17:57

I’ve emailed the Guardian Readers editor who does the corrections and clarifications. Don’t suppose they’ll do anything and in any case it wouldn’t be as prominent as the article. This and the other article Townsend did are putting me right off the Guardian, lifelong reader too.

hackmum · 27/01/2018 18:16

I was just going to suggest emailing the readers' editor. It's something I've been meaning to do for ages on the issue of how the Guardian reports transgender stories.

I reckon if enough people write in they might actually take notice.

Email is [email protected] and you can also tweet them at @GdnReadersEd

Popchyk · 27/01/2018 18:21

Maybe he does have a GRC? Because he has proved that he has been living as a woman for the last two years. In a male prison.

Wouldn't entirely surprise me.

QOFE · 27/01/2018 18:22

He'd be in a women's prison already then though wouldn't he?

OP posts:
flapsDentata · 27/01/2018 18:25

He’s on Facebook. A pal sent me his profile link. Feminine he ain’t. He’s a bald bloke, covered in tats, built like a roided shithouse. There is a few pictures of him wearing women’s underwear.

He’s a Transvestite, not gender dysmorphic. What happened to those guys eh? Oh now they are women. This is crazy. I’m so glad I didn’t have kids, particularly daughters. How do you protect them?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 27/01/2018 18:26

I wonder why men who perpetrate sex attacks on women aren't automatically excluded from exercising their right to identify as women? And any id'ing from a prison cell should be treated with the contempt it deserves.

Gileswithachainsaw · 27/01/2018 18:27

So that explains why no picture then Hmm

DarthArts · 27/01/2018 18:37

I wonder why men who perpetrate sex attacks on women aren't automatically excluded from exercising their right to identify as women?

Yes - exactly this.

It's also interesting that having committed the crimes as man they only decide to transition whilst in prison.

Anyone know of any stats re:how many TIM's who transitioned in jail continued to live as a woman after release? Or rather how many decided that life on the outside was still, in fact better as a man....

flapsDentata · 27/01/2018 18:38

There’s a picture of him with Gold knickers on. It was his profile picture. I’m still new here, so don’t know rules for posting things like that.

QOFE · 27/01/2018 18:40

I'd say you're ok to post it. It's public if anyone who isn't his "friend" has found it on FB so it's out there for anyone to search for anyway.

OP posts:
flapsDentata · 27/01/2018 18:40

Darth this is exactly why we need a debate about GRA. There needs to be safeguarding and exemptions. I’d be way cooler with it if there was. I just want a bloody debate.

flapsDentata · 27/01/2018 18:41

Isn’t he dainty? Lovely moobs.

QOFE · 27/01/2018 18:48

I'm not sure that's him because he's been in prison since 2009!

OP posts:
QOFE · 27/01/2018 18:49

And that doesn't look like the inside of the average cell...

OP posts:
FreiasBathtub · 27/01/2018 18:50

Has the article been updated? Read this earlier (furious) but rereading now notice an allusion to some of the crimes in the seventh paragraph. Still cherry picking the judge's comments, natch - 'complex and difficult' case but not 'it is behaviour anyone is bound to find chilling'.

No notice that the article has been amended though so I'm confused.

QOFE · 27/01/2018 18:53

Yes they've edited the article to mention the nature of his offending. Not the full extent that can be found with a quick google but it's so entering I suppose.

OP posts:
DodoPatrol · 27/01/2018 18:55

I think the MOJ statement that 'unless a particular concession is a demonstrable risk to safety, it should be permitted' is quite telling here.

He hasn't been moved. That means he is a demonstrable risk. I should think he's staying right where he is.

However, I think some tightening up of the term 'demonstrable risk' is needed, and that it needs to err on the side of caution and reasonable expectation that a dodgy bloke is likely to pose at least some risk to the female estate.

DodoPatrol · 27/01/2018 18:56

A fair and balanced headline would be 'Sex offending burglar prepared to die in hunger strike'.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 27/01/2018 19:06

Distinct lack of the trans handmaidens on this thread. I wonder why?

FreiasBathtub · 27/01/2018 19:11

Ugh, Guardian not even willing to hold up their hands and say they were wrong (can't see a correction notice on the mobile app anyway). They should at least acknowledge the incredible bias in their reporting before making paltry efforts to correct it!
