Good news, presumably?
I want to know where that leaves a certain womens officer, surely that ruling counts for every Labour post?

just5morepeas yes legally we do but the NHS, like the labour party, have slipped in self-ID in their guidance. Hence the woman who requested a female HCP to do her smear and was instead presented with a TW, and the woman on a locked female psychiatric ward who was traumatised by having to share with a TW.

'Guidance' is open to challenge where it interprets the law incorrectly.

x-post Smile

Patodp · 18/01/2018 20:10

unfortunateseries
I'm not sure, I mean it was decades ago I read up on it but, something like "if one could reasonably expect express term A to include A+B" then the contractor would have committed no wrongdoing.
So "Woman" could be found to mean "Woman+Transwoman" when put to a test.
Worried but not hopeless!

BelaLugosisShed · 18/01/2018 20:14

We do have those rights, unfortunately the places that should be upholding them are more concerned with Males and their feelings.
I hope that the woman put in a secure MH ward with a TiM sues the NHS for breaking the law surrounding legal exemptions. I want to know why that Hospital thought it not necessary to uphold her sex-based rights.

We would then have to be living in a world in which someone told 'woman' would reasonably be thought to have acted properly if they assumed 'women and people with XY chromosomes and a dick' surely that's a stretch?!

I know Jo Maugham professionally. I’m disappointed in him. I thought he was a critical thinker and a feminist ally.

Battleax · 18/01/2018 20:35

Watch them all fall down, eh?

They all crumble.

Sad
Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 20:42

Maybe he is both those things, but also a coward

Terrylene · 18/01/2018 20:46

I think it is how they get through all boys school - sort of appear to agree with the ones that are shouting, then pretend they were on the other side if that goes wrong, coz they 'didn't do it'. Avoidance of bullying and no principles.

StinkPickle · 18/01/2018 20:47

Wow so gutted at the QC’s 180 degree turn.

He was clearly bullied into a retraction.

BelaLugosisShed · 18/01/2018 20:50

I see the LibDems are all over this, saying that they will continue to use self id in selection procedures and condemning Labour for ‘caving in’ to pressure Hmm
Don’t they have any Lawyers to put them straight? They are also saying that they have more Trans members of any party.

Alisder Calder McGregor is saying that the ‘group’ who are crowdfunding drove him to a mental breakdown in 2014 - it’s very bizarre.

Sigh, well that's that then. Absolutely no-one to vote for when I come back to the uk. Not that it matters, because I'm your standard, egg-bearing woman, so not worth listening to.

Terrylene · 18/01/2018 20:58

Not that it matters, because I'm your standard, egg-bearing woman, so not worth listening to

I suppose being ignored frees you from the obligation to participate in the process eventually.............hmmmmmm seen that somewhere.........

Alisder Calder McGregor is saying that the ‘group’ who are crowdfunding drove him to a mental breakdown in 2014 Odd and weird - some of them only got together to be added over the last week, never mind 2014 - he must be on another planet or a different life Hmm

BelaLugosisShed · 18/01/2018 21:13

I don’t know if he means Jennifer/Labour or Alien lizards!

Really not happy about the Lib Dem’s. Tim Farron is my MP and when I wrote to him he was incredibly cautious but seemed supportive. The problem of course is that everyone thinks Tim is against gay marriage (he’s not) so it wouldn’t be difficult for some twat to add transphobia to the list of Tim’s crimes

Geronimoleapinglizards · 18/01/2018 21:16

So, so disappointed by Jo Maugham. I guess it's very hard to stick to your guns when people are screaming you're transphobic and a bigot. It sounds like personal friends of his expressed dismay and maybe if they were women he respected, he didn't want to upset them.

Extra gutting that he wants to pass the funds on to Mermaids of all people.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 21:22

Plenty of women have stuck to their guns in the face of far worse. But this issue doesn't REALLY matter to men much, that's the difference.

Anlaf · 18/01/2018 21:28

Jo Maugham has been fired from (I assume a voluntary) position as head of legal for a brexit campaign group.

@jmsclee
Jolyon I am the Head of The #FollowBackProEurope Movement and after this public embarrassment I'm saddened to announce we've made the difficult decision to ask you step down from your position as Head of Legal for Stopping Brexit. I hope you understand.

You can retract and apologise and pledge cash to support the people you've offended, but you're still out.

Fucking hell

Anlaf · 18/01/2018 21:29

Although actually that might be a pisstaker

Who knows anymore

nauticant · 18/01/2018 21:32

That is hard to believe even thought it seems to be true. I never would have thought it was that bad.

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 21:32

Maybe they mean the public embarassment of backing down from their original position after a couple of tweets from TRAs

Maybe too optomistic

nauticant · 18/01/2018 21:33

Bah, my instincts were right. It's a piss taker.

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 21:33

Though if he knew people had complained to his employer(even if its voluntary), that could explain the sudden change of heart and furious backpeddling

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 21:34

Ahh. Pisstaker makes more sense Grin
