Good news, presumably?
I want to know where that leaves a certain womens officer, surely that ruling counts for every Labour post?

Even though I'm a bit hair-trigger after a trying day, that is an effective gag.

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 21:51

The problem of course is that everyone thinks Tim is against gay marriage (he’s not) so it wouldn’t be difficult for some twat to add transphobia to the list of Tim’s crimes

news.sky.com/story/tim-farron-i-was-a-fool-to-say-gay-sex-is-not-a-sin-11202698

Is this story false?

Never know these days as so many places seem to make shit up or twist words beyond recognition. It just stuck in my mind tbh and have dragged it up after your post just to check..as I had written him off as a raging homophobe. Seems to have direct quotes though, which I thought were not allowed to be changed.

LineysRuff · 18/01/2018 22:06

On the question of women insisting on female spaces and female health practitioners, I guess what needs to be said is, 'Your guidelines are breaking the law surrounding legal exemptions.'

And repeat.

Badgerthebodger · 18/01/2018 22:09

Vicxy yes that article has been a bit twisted. Essentially he has voted in favour of gay marriage every time it has come up. He does not personally feel that it is something he can fully endorse, for some weird Christian reason, however he is a proper liberal - “I do not agree with what you say but I will defend your right to say it”. He believes the law should uphold equal rights even though he personally disagrees. A strange position to hold, but he was absolutely ripped to shreds over it and a lot was taken out of context. I don’t think he handled it well but he is a reasonably ok MP and has at least taken the time to respond to my letters thoughtfully without just vaguely saying nothing.

NEW UK PASSPORTS STILL USE SEX, NOT GENDER

Sorry to shout, but it keeps being said that newly issued passports have moved from indicating sex to gender, when it's really not true (friend got hers earlier this month - I've seen it with my own eyes)

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 22:12

“I do not agree with what you say but I will defend your right to say it”.

Ah right I get it, thanks.

OlennasWimple · 18/01/2018 22:13

Regarding asking to see a GRC, surely it's like employers asking for proof of the right to work in the UK: you don't just ask the people who look a bit foreign to bring in the necessary documentation, you ask everyone. And not right up front in the application process, when you would have lots of documents to look at, you wait until you have whittled the pool down to the people you want to appoint and then complete the checks

It's not rocket science, is it?

Battleax · 18/01/2018 22:15

That's what I thought Olenna. I'm surprised the NEC didn't have the wit to incorporate that in their earlier statement.

Badgerthebodger · 18/01/2018 22:18

That’s great Olenna really pleased the world hasn’t gone completely batshit

thebewilderness · 18/01/2018 22:21

Good to hear on the passport, Olenna. I wonder why she claimed her renewal said gender.

OlennasWimple · 18/01/2018 23:18

Because LM's a fantasist and a bit dim confused?

Don't forget that LM has also claimed to be unable to change the name on the GoFundMe account because of a lack of documentation acceptable to the bank...

Vicxy · 19/01/2018 00:30

Surely if someone changes their passport to say they are the opposite sex than what they actually are, this could cause huge problems when attempting to use said passport?

I know if I worked checking passports and someones passport said they were female, but they looked like a male..I would be questioning the legitamcy of said passport and thinking it could be forged in some way.

Thats before even getting to the issue of the scanners and such, which if a passport said female, then the scanner showed a bulge in the crotch..surely they are likely to get searched because of this?

EamonnWright · 19/01/2018 00:39

You would imagine you might have difficulty entering certain countries with Female as your sex when you're sporting an Adams' Apple and 2 days growth.

OlennasWimple · 19/01/2018 00:50

If I was a transwoman, I would carry my GRC with me when I travelled for precisely this reason.

OlennasWimple · 19/01/2018 00:51

Like when I had a visa in my pre-marriage name that was still valid, and a new passport in my married name: when I visited the country that issued the visa, I took my old passport, my new passport and my marriage certificate to show that I was the same person and entitled to both documents

OlennasWimple · 19/01/2018 00:52

a visa in my pre-marriage name that was still valid

I meant "a visa in the passport that had been issued in my pre-marriage name"

Vicxy · 19/01/2018 01:28

If I was a transwoman, I would carry my GRC with me when I travelled for precisely this reason.

Apparently you do not need to have a GRC to change sex on a passport.

EggbertNobacon · 19/01/2018 04:28

The form definitely says Gender. I got my 3 kids' first passports this month. I was upset as I didn't dare cross it out and put "sex" like I normally do, given the rules on filling them in are so stringent.

Theresnonamesleft · 19/01/2018 07:26

Applications now say Gender, not sex as Egg mentioned.

There is also guidance how to apply for a passport for transgender people. So, it would have been very easy for LM to get a female gendered passport.

UpABitLate · 19/01/2018 10:24

I wonder what the chances of a doc signing off if I went in and said "I'm a man"

Vs

A man going in and saying the same thing

It is well known / recognised that men tend to be taken seriously / believed while women are assumed to have mental health issues / not know their own minds

All of this is just one giant feedback loop which will fuck women over.

OlennasWimple · 19/01/2018 16:09

Ah - maybe that's where the "passports now say gender" line has come from? The forms say gender, whilst the passports still say sex? I feel a letter to HM Passport Office coming on...

Vicxy - in my hypothetical trans status, I personally wouldn't take the chance of an airlne deciding to decline to accept my passport as genuine ID, but I guess others might decide to do so

OlennasWimple · 19/01/2018 16:46

Mind you, not sure how L Madigan could afford to get a new passport as according to Twitter he is unable to send off his UCAS application because he has no money (it's £13 for a single course application, £24 for multiple course applications) Confused

DodoPatrol · 19/01/2018 17:11

I thought L Madigan was already on a course, being a Student Rep and all?

OlennasWimple · 19/01/2018 17:26

Indeed, Dodo - fashion at Rochester IIRC. LM is the Rochester Campus Executive Officer there too

Battleax · 19/01/2018 17:46

Not an art foundation! Maybe it's just not working out there?
