Good news, presumably?
I want to know where that leaves a certain womens officer, surely that ruling counts for every Labour post?

Once we have had that clarification from the party, everyone who has donated to the crowdfunded gets a refund. Then ppl can individually decide if they want to put it towards something else.

God knows I'm pretty honest and trustworthy in general. But I got £16,000 in my bank account and the powder on the Chamonix slopes is the best in a decade. 😎 Once we get clarification from Labour on women's officer, delegate, cllr etc reserved places you get your money back. ;-)

Made me laugh too!

Redonionricedpotato · 18/01/2018 16:08

Jolyon is parroting the 'transwomen are women' line unfortunately.

GuardianLions · 18/01/2018 16:13

To me it is capitulation. I don't care if a male has a GRC. They are not a woman.

Why should someone be able to 'choose' to legally force the world into their delusion that they have magically changed sex? At the expense of women?

I find it creepy the way everyone is treading on bullshit eggshells again because 'gender reassignment' is a protected characteristic. How the did that happen?

IrkThePurist · 18/01/2018 16:22

The Tories slipped it in to the Act without a mandate. It needs challenging, IMO.

Terrylene · 18/01/2018 16:22

I see someone on the Jolyon thread referring to self ID in the Utopia Ireland not bringing the roof down - but I am sure I read on here that there are laws providing for privacy and embarrassment, and that there are no transwomen in Irish prisons?

I thought the guidance on the Equalities act provided for all female spaces without transsexual women, as to include them would make be discrimination against other male people?

IrkThePurist · 18/01/2018 16:23

The Tories slipped it in to the Act without a mandate. It needs removing, as it breaks the Equality Act.

IrkThePurist · 18/01/2018 16:23

Oh dear. Blush

Terrylene · 18/01/2018 16:26

It is not just that Gender reassignment is a protected characteristic, but it is that working towards Gender reassignment is included, and that has no definition or time or anything. We could all be working towards gender reassignment. It is this that the Equalities Trainers from the 'charity sector' have been exploiting.

Elendon · 18/01/2018 16:31

So, all transwomen are not women then.

If a certificate is needed to present yourself as a woman, and who would be the arbiter of this?, then how is this going to pan out?

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 16:35

So I see even Jolyon has allowed himself to be bullied into back pedalling.

I think I need to leave Twitter before I explode with rage/disappointment.

GuardianLions · 18/01/2018 16:36

Agreed 100%

Totally up for protections for gender non-conforming people though.

thebewilderness · 18/01/2018 17:02

Someone mentioned a few weeks ago on another thread that the new passports say gender, not sex.
I am furious over this devious political transition from material reality to a belief system. This will not end well.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 17:04

Can you refuse to give a gender bewilderness? Because I refuse to define as the gender woman, just the sex. I am going to stand firm in this on all forms going forward.

thebewilderness · 18/01/2018 17:11

It probably seemed like a small thing when the various agencies changed forms to comply with the interpretation of law. You may be required to either be a gender or declare yourself enby (non binary).
I do not know how many genders they think people believe in.

QuentinSummers · 18/01/2018 17:17

The tweet has been pulled "awaiting formal clarification from the party".
Maybe not such good news after all

QuentinSummers · 18/01/2018 17:21

Oops my mistake it was originally on Facebook. Anyway it's gone now

SixesSevens · 18/01/2018 17:38

Men who don't have a Gender Recognition Certificate are (somehow) able to get their passports changed to say 'Female'.

Speedy85 · 18/01/2018 17:43

Not a labour member but did vote for them at the last election so I might have got the following muddled:

Do the rules actually require the women’s officer to be a woman? I know it said that they must in that job description but looking at the rules that I found online (skwawkbox.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/rule-book-2017-labour.pdf) Chapter 7, Clause VIII, it says:

The Executive Officers of this CLP shall be; chair, vice-chair, vice-chair/ membership, secretary, treasurer, women’s officer. At least three of these officers shall be women. This CLP may, with the approval of the NEC add other Executive Officer posts drawn from amongst its Coordinator roles subject to the gender quota being amended appropriately.

So I think you could have a male women’s officer as long as enough of the other officer roles are held by women. Have I understood this right?

thecraftyfox · 18/01/2018 17:46

Gender reassignment is a protected characteristic BUT it is in terms of protection against employment discrimination etc. It does not create the legal fiction a GRC does of allowing one to be classed as a woman. Even then sex remains a protected characteristic and trans people can be excluded from single sex spaces etc if proportional grounds.

UpABitLate · 18/01/2018 18:11

the new passports say gender not sex?

at this stage of the game that is deliberate, and concerning

I will need to get F taken off mine then I suppose, and my DH will have M taken off his, and the DDs too

IrkThePurist · 18/01/2018 18:11

Speedy85 No thats not correct, someone has rewritten it.
Labour Party rules specify the Womens Officer must be a woman.

d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/labourclp96/pages/1278/attachments/original/1445544799/Job_Description_-_CLP_Womens_Officer.pdf?1445544799

''Every year the local constituency Labour Party elects ‘officers’ to carry out the organisational
and campaigning priorities of the party. There are eight key posts that must be filled - chair, deputy chair, secretary, treasurer, vice-chair (membership) and vice-chair (policy), women’s officer and youth officer - and at least four of these must be women. The women’s officer must be a woman.''

Speedy85 · 18/01/2018 18:21

Thank you for the clarification Irk.

Weezol · 18/01/2018 18:29

The girlinthefireplace I haven't logged in to Twitter for two months, because the rage it causes me is bad for my health.

In a way I feel I should be on there fighting the good fight, but I have to remind myself that it's going to make me ill and stay off.
