Good news, presumably?
I want to know where that leaves a certain womens officer, surely that ruling counts for every Labour post?

It's something but... I've had it tbh. They are not women. Not as I or actually anyone alive on the planet in 2018 understands the word 'women'.

So no. I don't want someone who spent the last 40 years - and in just about all cases especially that crucial teenage period where you realise how fucking impotent you are against men and boys - enjoying male privilege, representing me. Or digging around in my fanjo without my informed consent, or trying on a dress next door.

Enough. Angry

catgirl1976 · 18/01/2018 18:44

Hang fire everyone - there seems to be some back pedalling now from Labour....

IrkThePurist · 18/01/2018 18:47

catgirl1976 What have you seen?

Its crazy that the Womens Officer can be a biological man. Trans people can apply for any other position.

Battleax · 18/01/2018 18:47

If Labour try to brush this under the carpet, there will be an almighty backlash.

Elendon · 18/01/2018 18:48

I will not be happy either Battleax

catgirl1976 · 18/01/2018 18:49

Here you go twitter.com/sargesalute?lang=en

Looks like there's more fight to go

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 18/01/2018 18:49

Yeah they have replaced their 'you win' statement with a picture of Ada Wells forcibly transing a screaming four year old with the caption 'You go girl' and a lipstick emoji.

Well, not quite, but sorta.

Cocks.

catgirl1976 · 18/01/2018 18:49

Sorry this twitter.com/sargesalute/status/954054269824651266 should take you to the right quote

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 18/01/2018 18:53

Yeah it's more what catgirl linked but I was half right about the emoji, check out those hearts. Nothing says 'I am an important woman engaged in important political business (but I am cute and loveable too right?)' like a little heart to sign off.

Thehairthebod · 18/01/2018 18:59

Do you know what really boils my piss the most about this? People like Jennifer James, Anne Ruzylo and probably many of the other woman on that Gofundme list of signatories have worked tirelessly for the a Labour Party over the years. They aren't there just to virtue signal and give themselves a warm glow like so many other 'lefties'. They have put in the graft, probably fairly boring and unrewarding at times graft, that is involved in grass roots politics. Lily Fucking Madigan has been around for 5 minutes and evidently is more interested in promoting themselves than they are about getting into the nitty gritty of Labour politics.

The Labour Party owe these women so much - they are the ones who keep it all going and make it all work at ground level; the vast majority of people really only see and think about politics at Westminster level.

And yet now there are calls from people who aren't willing to actually get their hands dirty that 'they must go' and that there is no place for them in the Labour Party. All because they want to protect women's rights.

Fuck. That. Shit.

Elendon · 18/01/2018 19:01

From a twitter link above Anne Ruzylo's but SHE DID NOT TWEET THIS.

Trans women are women. And they need the safety of women only spaces even more than cis women.

Unforunateseriesofevents · 18/01/2018 19:05

Is it not a good thing that they’ve back-pedalled? In that the matter will be challenged in court and there will be a public record stating that transwomen are not women but men? And hopefully more of the public will be peak-transed as this will come to their attention?

HermioneWeasley · 18/01/2018 19:05

thehairthrbod couldn’t agree more, and it’s extraordinary that the party should be so relaxed about losing the support of the women who do all the fucking work.

Just shows their true colours. I think every woman who’s a member should stop doing anything for the party right away - it will grind to a halt.

catgirl1976 · 18/01/2018 19:07

Yes I think getting this into court would be excellent for a - taking this mainstream and b - I am pretty sure one of the first things the courts would seek to ascertain is the definition of a woman.

Snowdrop18 · 18/01/2018 19:09

Maugham has backtracked?

OMFG that is bad news.

UpABitLate · 18/01/2018 19:10

"Trans women are women. And they need the safety of women only spaces even more than cis women."

Well this is no surprise is it.

Still heading down the path I mentioned on here must be couple years ago. We end up with new definitions:

Men (everyone knows who they are)
Women (who used to be men)
Non people

The above statement says that trans women should have priority access to anything currently reserved for women. And it's OK if women (old style cunty women) don't have any spaces left for them. So things like the AWS trans women (self identified) should be prioritised over women. This was always the logical end-point. And supported broadly by both left and right as misogyny is not a characteristic reserved for any particular political viewpoint.

Elendon · 18/01/2018 19:11

Can I just say HermoineWeasley, I'm not all that supportive of a Labour supporter who backs capital punishment either.

UpABitLate · 18/01/2018 19:11

Men prefer to deal with men.
Men know transwomen are men.
Places have been reserved for women, men do not like this, not at all.
This solves their problems.

Patodp · 18/01/2018 19:22

That's really interesting catgirl.
I studied an element of business law including contract law where the interpretation of words was a huge element of contractual rights.
Then you have implied conditions and express conditions, implies conditions that were not proven "beyond reasonable doubt" were not enforceable under contract...
So "must be a woman" could imply Transwoman. But is this beyond reasonable doubt? Who judges??

I agree definition of "woman" is important but if "woman" also implies "Transwoman" beyond reasonable doubt, then... pfft.

Patodp · 18/01/2018 19:22

catgirl1076

Unforunateseriesofevents · 18/01/2018 19:28

Pato wouldn’t it be on balance of probabilities as it’s not criminal? I’d imagine that there is a legal definition of woman and it wouldn’t include transwomen. It would have to come down to biology - there’s no other proof of sex.

QueenYnci · 18/01/2018 19:36

The Lib Dems appear to be saying the same thing about their AWS on twitter: 'We are proud to say that our all women shortlists are open to ALL women.'

PencilsInSpace · 18/01/2018 19:51

This is brilliant news and I'm not too worried about the back-pedalling.

What appears to have happened is the equalities NEC have clarified the law, Wolfson posted her update and then a load of TAs did some whinging so she's taken it down again to await formal clarification from the party (aka pass the buck and make it the party's 'fault' not the NEC's fault)

I very much doubt the NEC decision will be reversed as the law appears to be clear and at this stage I don't give a shit if Labour feel the need to use the word 'regretably' in their clarification.

Well done everyone who has donated and shared this campaign StarFlowersWineBrewGin

I look forward to clarification on women's officers, after which I vote we challenge the NHS on single sex wards and the right to a same sex HCP for intimate procedures.

just5morepeas · 18/01/2018 19:53

" I vote we challenge the NHS on single sex wards and the right to a same sex HCP for intimate procedures"

I'm probably going to show my ignorance here, but don't we already have those rights?

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 19:59

Just - think legally we should but it's not always being implemented that way, at least there are examples in the press from when it hasn't. I'm thinking of the lady given a transwoman for a smear test and a lady in a psych ward with a transwoman.
