"Look how far we have come" says Paris Lees in a feature celebrating 100 years since women have had the right to vote in the UK.

Em except - your sex have always had the right to vote.

Or am I missing something?

So depressing reading about teen views on this. What can be done?

SophoclesTheFox · 06/01/2018 07:10

Trans women are the new suffragettes?

What the actual fuck?

You are the opposite of suffragettes. You are anti-suffragettes. You are part of an authoritarian land grab on women's rights and you don't even have the wit to grasp that.

Go step on a lego, India and Paris. Go step on a fucking lego. Twice.

AbsintheFriends · 06/01/2018 10:51

I don't know what can be done ButteredScone, but I do feel a bit less despairing about it after being on this thread. As pallisers says, for many this unquestioning, wholehearted acceptance an intrinsic part of the right-thinking, 'woke' identity they share with their peer group and so no amount of common sense or mature maternal wisdom is going to change their views. I guess time, and the increasingly outrageous fuckwittery of the more high-profile TIMs (suffragettes!! FFS...Angry) may do that, but in the meantime I find speakout's view that her beliefs and thoughts are her own and don't need to be shared very liberating. That's going to be my approach from now on.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 06/01/2018 11:39

Finding this thread rather cheery this morning!

India is going to be somewhat put out when they find that Paris is now the new suffragette according to Vogue

India is going to be somewhat put out when they find that Paris is now the new suffragette according to Vogue

Yes I said below that I thought it was maybe deliberate.

Ereshkigal · 06/01/2018 13:17

I know India is meant to be locked in the house with no media etc, but wonder if that's really the case, and perhaps knew about the Vogue cover before going in.

CarysMa · 06/01/2018 13:18

That's really annoying.

Thehairthebod · 06/01/2018 14:26

Does anyone here follow The Pool on FB/Twitter? I will be very interested to see if they pick up these stories about Paris and India.

Up until now they have been very pro trans agenda, and did an article about Munroe Bergdorf being the face of L'Oréal, and often get Juno Dawson to write stuff. But recently under their transwomen articles there have been more and more voices of question, and I wonder if they are on the verge of peak transing?

Under one article someone questioned how Juno Dawson is acceptable as a woman but Rachel Dolzeal isn't acceptable as a black person and The Pool replied that obviously they are completely different, but when pressed couldn't answer why and there was radio silence afterwards.

I follow them on FB and so far there hasn't been anything about Paris Lees in Vogue.

Interesting...

I don't know how popular The Pool actually is, loads of my friends follow it, but relatively they don't have that many.

UpABitLate · 06/01/2018 17:27

I follow the pool on FB and think it's pretty good for something that is pretty mainstream

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 06/01/2018 18:49

Have to say I'm really disgusted with Stella Creasy in all this. Not only did she stand with a male transperson in a photoshoot about the suffragettes, the then defended it by slagging off the the suffragettes.

Then she tried to play the victim as though the other women were just picking on her because she's a woman. It's pathetic, treacherous and utterly weak

thebewilderness · 06/01/2018 19:04

Give it six months and tumblr trans advocates will have transitioned the suffragettes just like they did Joan of Arc.

AbsintheFriends · 06/01/2018 19:12

I don't follow The Pool but dip in every now and again (ha ha) - might just follow now to see how things go. I've been thinking since the LM episode that the silence has been deafening in the mainstream media. I know Jenni Murray got her arse handed to her on a plate when she ventured her (eminently sensible) opinion, so I guess Woman's Hour are wary of touching on the issue, but given their remit and the fact that they regularly feature the political issues affecting women specifically it's becoming increasingly weird that they haven't mentioned it. (Unless they have and I've missed it?)

This tweet sums up Stella Creasy

It's an odd day when you find you agree with Katie Hopkins! She has apparently tweeted: '...you can chop the dick off a man, but don’t end up with a woman'

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 06/01/2018 19:40

Oh Sweet Jesus, I agree with Katie Hopkins too

9th circle of hell for me

thebewilderness · 06/01/2018 19:44

As they say, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

BeyondWW · 06/01/2018 19:52

"A cat with no legs is not a slug"

😂😂😂

Yep, stopped clock...

KittyPerry77 · 06/01/2018 20:09

Once you bring in Dolezal, TRA can counter with white babies born to black parents. Surely, having black skin (or at least some shade that isn't white) is a prerequisite to being Black and I presume we would agree that these babies could claim to be black when they grow up even if their skin stays so white.

Just like a tw was "meant" to be born in a woman's body, they were meant to be born in a black body. No?

Redonionricedpotato · 06/01/2018 20:20

White children born to black parents have a genetic mutation though. Transwomen don’t. They are genetically male.

thebewilderness · 06/01/2018 20:22

That's just silly. Have they never heard of gingers or albinism? Recessive genes?
All facts can be turned upside down and inside out to serve the mendacious.

Thermostatpolice · 06/01/2018 23:54

Kitty no that's provably different. A white baby being born to black parents can be easily and objectively explained by science after conducting a few tests on the child. The tests are objective and the baby's feelings are irrelevant to diagnosis.

No such objective, no-feelings-necessary, diagnostic tests exist for transgenderism. Although they do for intersex, which is why TRAs keep trying to bring intersex people under the trans umbrella. Despite the fact that intersex organisations have repeatedly asked to be left out of trans campaigning.

No no no, its ok. She agrees with you and thats a different thing altogether.

Batteriesallgone · 07/01/2018 03:21

I hope no one thinks the child in that article is going to grow up with white privilege and then at some later date ‘claim’ to be black.

It’s not comparable at all

OtterInDisgrace · 07/01/2018 03:42

My god, I am at such peak trans I can’t even read about their fucking bullshit without getting really angry.

OtterInDisgrace · 07/01/2018 03:44

I was actually sympathetic once upon a time. Now all I feel is affronted.
