Terrible article from the Independent

Here www.indy100.com/article/trans-lives-matter-shon-faye-juno-dawson-riley-carter-india-willoughby-travis-alabanza-annie-wallace-8099866

What can 'cis' people do to be better allies to transpeople in 2018.

I don't even know where to start with this.

That's the Guardian and the Independent off my list now. Politically homeless and driven to reading The Times.

OP posts:
MadgeMidgerson · 01/01/2018 14:22

Ridiculous. A poster plops on to the thread demanding to know why ‘feminists’ (who? Which ones?) haven’t performed to their satisfaction regarding something a completely unrelated newspaper did once to someone else unrelated to the discussion topic.

When they aren’t catered or pandered to, they announce that they have a mental illness which should henceforth be borne in mind.

As my granny used to say, are you fuckin kidding me?

If you tell me that I am doing something that I am not doing ofc that would then make me doubt myself and my sanity (if I took the accusation seriously).

As I have said, my views are in the minority, I am not expecting others to take care of MH. That's why I am saying, don't accuse me of doing something I am clearly not doing. Either engage with the differing point, or not. Don't respond to a difference of opinion with 'derail'.

Nobody is perfect, I'm not holding it against anyone but I won't tolerate it being done to me. Its a personal boundary and I am very good at maintaining for myself.

QueenLaBeefah · 01/01/2018 14:27

Sorry, what is your mental disability? Just to further my understanding?

sleighbellend · 01/01/2018 14:28

So it's ok for you to demand others respect your personal boundaries, yet when we do it we're terrible and exclusionary and responsible for the deaths of thousands, etc?

MadgeMidgerson · 01/01/2018 14:29

personal boundaries are transphobic, quit it post haste

PositivelyPERF · 01/01/2018 14:30

Oh please, Lunar, 😒 You have the fucking cheek to demand that posters take into consideration that you have mental health issues, but on another thread are so dismissive of female victims of sexual abuse. Cry me a river.

aluner you are all over every trans thread, barely coherent, desperately derailing

aluner was not derailing here. She thinks the article is needed and well-written- that is disagreeing with the OP, not derailing.

Bringing Alex Bertie into the thread as an example of why the article is needed is not derailing either. It was however an extremely poor example for the reasons set out.

Not sure I should have to specify tbh?

C-PTSD and anxiety are in the mix. But providing people don't try and persuade I am doing/saying something other than what I am doing/saying, there really shouldn't be a problem.

ALunerExplorer · 01/01/2018 14:36

Oh my...

Deadlylampshade · 01/01/2018 14:36

bananas

So there was a thread where some posters suggested that (and I can guarantee it would have been sex not gender) so that’s what people on Mumsnet think?
Erm no that’s not how this works, one thread does not a consensus make. Of course there’s some extremists on here, that’s true of everything, doesn’t mean that’s what most people think though.

GreenPurpleRed · 01/01/2018 14:38

Clearly you haven't actually read any such thread @bananas if you think they wanted cards to confirm 'gender' identy.

Branleuse · 01/01/2018 14:38

Meg John Barker is a very interesting person tbh. They wrote quite a lot for my OU course last year and I developed a mini crush on them. Very interesting ideas on relationships etc. I dont have a problem with the idea of non binary gender or gender fluidity. I DO have a problem with having to pretend a man is a woman and accept men in protected spaces on the basis of how they feel about their gender. I get they dont feel like a stereotypical man or a stereotypical woman and that causes issues for them. That doesnt mean they get to trample over womens safe spaces etc

Im not particularly interested in being a trans ally though. I wish trans people all the best, but rea

Branleuse · 01/01/2018 14:39

i pressed send too soon, and now cant remember what i was going to write. Hungover.

irretating · 01/01/2018 14:40

@deadly, I've only just now become aware of other meanings of that word. Round my neck of the woods you'd use it to describe somebody who is quite pathetic and irritating. I see now that it has other meanings Shock

Butterymuffin · 01/01/2018 14:42

Luner so posters are not allowed to disagree with you on the nature of what you're posting? Can't really see how that can work. It's a matter of disagreement. One person's defence of a point is another person's derailing. Absolute definitions of such things are not going to be workable on the Internet.

HemlockSpartacus · 01/01/2018 14:44

To be fair you can find a thread saying just about anything on MN, that's kind of the thing with a forum this large. Especially one given to invasions of trolls, sockpuppets and goady fuckers.

MadgeMidgerson · 01/01/2018 14:45

Luner’s posts are disingenuous- demanding feminist outrage over photographs of a naked child published without consent in a newspaper...

Only it was photographs of a twenty year old which were taken from that person’s YouTube site, open to all viewers, and apparently also appear in their book.

Has anyone managed to post a comment, can't see any.

irretating · 01/01/2018 14:45

It's already gone.

Deadlylampshade · 01/01/2018 14:49

irretating

Ha, it’s a shame it’s got more than oneeaning because it’s such a satisfying word to say.

PositivelyPERF · 01/01/2018 14:49

So Lunar would you say trying to get people to believe that a 20yr old is is child is gaslighting?
