FF has announced on Facebook that they're now supporting transwomen as there is so much transmisogyny in the media. Illustrated with a meme exhorting women to support their sisters, not just cisters.

Ffs.

Is feminist fightback some shitey website on a par with everyday feminism? If so they aren't remotely feminist, they exist only to fight for transwomen and multi syllable sexual orientation persons.

ALunerExplorer · 29/12/2017 12:19

Apologies - something may be lost in the translation.

Multi syllable sexual orientation persons?

ladyballs · 29/12/2017 12:20

I thought, but was mistaken, that they were proper feminists. Sigh.

Sounds more like femenist frightpack to me.

MorrisZapp · 29/12/2017 12:37

People who use a series of words to describe their sexual orientation.

'non binary aromantic polysexual' etc.

irretating · 29/12/2017 12:49

My concern here would be their ability to retain the word 'woman' when it comes to discussing issues that specifically impact women on the basis of biology.

They're opening themselves up to a lot of pressure to be 'inclusive', and by that I mean, to not use terminology which would emphasise difference between women and transwomen.

ladyballs · 29/12/2017 13:03

I commented and have had the cultish 'transwomen are women' response.

I cba to engage. It's so frustrating to see feminist groups capitulating to a misogynistic, lesbophobic ideology.

I see.

I'm a middle aged woman, but I do try to keep up so I'm aware that its now LGBTQ (more or less). I just wanted to make sure that was what you meant.

However, I do have similarly aged friend (of about 7 years standing), who is aromantic, which isn't really a new thing: you can find references in literature going back 250 years. Jane Austen - in the character of Charlotte Lucas for example, (Elizabeth Bennett's friend in Pride and Prejudice: "...I'm not romantic you know - I never was.." which she says to Elizabeth when trying to explain to her friend her reason for accepting a proposal of marriage from Mr Collins).

Possibly its the pot I smoked as a teen (Shock Grin), but I'm not sure I quite grasp the reason for your tone of disdain? Or am I misreading you? My apologies if that is the case.

MorrisZapp · 29/12/2017 13:12

Obviously being aromantic isn't new. But describing yourself that way and wanting the world to validate your leanings is.

ALunerExplorer · 29/12/2017 13:15

Well that's been my experience, but we'll leave that there and I wish you a happy new year.

ALunerExplorer · 29/12/2017 13:16

*not

catgirl1976 · 29/12/2017 14:33

I read 'aromantic' as 'aromatic' and now am craving crispy duck

GuardianLions · 29/12/2017 14:38

Feminist Fightback are anarchist feminist aren't they? I seem to recall they were one of the first to drink the kool aid. The op is ancient news isn't it?

ALunerExplorer · 29/12/2017 14:40

and now so am I Grin

We have an have a couple of excellent Chinese restaurant's near by too, and one of them serves gorgeous pots of green tea with it (I prefer proper Chinese green tea to that stuff you get in supermarkets. Far more aromatic and sweet and refreshing).

ladyballs · 29/12/2017 15:07

Guardianlions I only realised today when they posted on Facebook. I didn't know they were one of the first.

OP posts:
cuirderussie · 29/12/2017 20:50

So many of them are like that. Feminists United uses a quote by Janet Mock as its tagline. JANET MOCK ffs. Guerilla Feminism is the same. Only about a third of their content is about women.

salmonofwisdom · 29/12/2017 20:58

Oh dear, how unfortunate that organisations now support minorities!

ladyballs · 29/12/2017 20:59

Salmon, feminism is about women. Trans Identified Males are men...

OP posts:
toomanycookbooks · 29/12/2017 21:43

Dismantle Misogyny are just as bad and ban anyone on FB who says that transwomen are male. None of these groups have any right to describe themselves as feminist.

whoputthecatout · 29/12/2017 22:00

Really weird how whole sections of the population seem 100% ignorant of basic biology.

Probably believe the earth flat, the world was created 6,000 years ago and the moon is made of green cheese. Oh, and that transwomen are women.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 29/12/2017 22:02

No. You can't have Jane fucking Austen. No fucking way.

She's not 'aromantic' she's a woman in a fucking horrible situation as a direct result of having been born with a vagina.

As are many of Austen's women.

So the LGBTQQ+#noirony can get their grubby little hands off her.

thebewilderness · 29/12/2017 22:15

Pinknews appears to have dropped the L in their annual celebration of accomplishments.

RebelRogue · 30/12/2017 00:09

@ALunerExplorer what a surprise, another not so subtle attempt to derail a thread.

salmonofwisdom · 30/12/2017 00:10

lol, read up on your history. Feminism isn't about women alone @ladyballs

irony there is really something.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/12/2017 00:41

Feminism is exactly about womens liberation. Or at least it was. These days it is more about sucking cock, at least in its third wave manifestation as fun feminism.
